The Rift opened and from out of its torn folds of time and space streaked what appeared to the normal eye nothing more than a shooting star or a meteor falling to Earth just outside of Cardiff city limits.
The tiny space shuttle bounced and shook with the force of reentry. Its sole occupant held on to the flight controls for dear life, while thinking that this was still exciting, and if she was to die… again it wouldn’t be from boredom. The light dotted landscape came ever closer and she noted a small wooded area that fascinated her, after all she had never seen trees before and she hoped that it wouldn’t be her first and last glimpse of their majestic majesty. It was where she knew her ship was going to find itself in its final landing. The only question was: in what condition would the ship be in?
She could feel as the ship hit the top of the trees and she pulled up hard on the controls, feeling something break away from the ship in the fall. “I hope I didn’t need that,” she muttered. What seemed to her as a loud explosion sounded in her ear, its deafening roar making her wince in pain. After what seemed like only moments the ship stopped from the impact of a particularly large tree in front of her. A piece of the ships controls broke apart from the rest and caused more pain as it smacked her across the head in its propelled state. All became quiet and nothing stirred, except for a small red light blinking feebly in the darkness. Jenny pushed the button. In a hope that the secureinvisamatrix was still working so that the ship would be safe while she discovered where she was and once again made it space worthy.
Stunned, Jenny groped for the safety harness that had protected her from most of the impact. When she had said that she wanted adventure she hadn’t know that it would be so painful, and now she was probably going to have to spend time repairing her ship. Over the last year she had become well acquainted with repairing her ship. She had crashed it so many times within the last year that she had lost track. Though those instances were not her fault it was still exasperating.
Finding the harness she yanked herself free of its embrace, thankful that the ship had landed right-side-up this time. No crawling across the ceiling to get out always a bonus. She could feel blood ooze from a head-wound and she wiped at it in agitation and impatience. Finding the ships outside latch she yanked on it until it released and opened to the night air. Standing on shaken legs she left the ship, closing its door behind her. She stood in silence, gazing at the strange trees around her and breathing in unfamiliar scents.
Glancing behind her she saw the devastation that her ship had left in its wake and winced at the sight of the new damage brought on by her dive from space. She leaned up against one of those trees, feeling its odd texture against her skin and wondered how she got here. There had been no planets even remotely close to where she had been flying. Then all of a sudden something had just seemed to catch her and her ship in an unrelenting grip and has tossed her out here.

Bryan Wilkeson was walking home from one of his spur-of-the-moment starlit swims when he saw a white streak in the sky, toward the outskirts of Cardiff. He then felt the impact through his sandals.
"Well, glad I headed home early," he muttered to himself as he took off down the street.
His snow-white hair was still soaking wet. He used the towel to try to dry it as he slipped on his fingerless gloves to hide his webbed hands. He was only half human after all.

A rush of fear swept over her as she detected the sounds of feet making their way ever closer to where she had crashed. She reached down and drew her sidearm. She would not be taken again, she hated cells and she would not stand for another one. She knew not where she was but all monsters died the same. She raised her weapon in the direction the sound was coming from and pushed away from the tree shakily. Jenny armed her weapon with a click, but as she did a memory from her past and a voice echoed within her mind. ‘… and don’t hurt anyone!’

Bryan looked at the wreckage, the great big skid trench in teh ground. He ran over to the ship and just as he came around the ship he found a gun pointed at his face. He came to a stop immediately, dropping his towel and holding his gloved hands beside his head as his swim trunks dripped in the dirt.
"Oh, sorry, I didn't-" he started, then he saw who was holding the gun. A gorgeous blond with a real serious look on her face. "Oh, wow. Welcome to earth, angel."

A small sigh of relief escaped her. She was pretty sure that this was not a monster. However, he was a curiously soggy bloke. ‘Maybe the inhabitance of this world live underwater?’ She thought while slowly disarming and lowering her weapon. She gave him a bright smile. “Earth? Is that the planets name?” She asked while re-holstering her weapon. ‘… don’t hurt anyone? There dad I didn’t hurt anyone… not even a little bit.’ She thought studying the man. “I seemed to have wrecked my shuttle. No one is going to be upset that I destroyed half their trees are they?” She asked casually; looking at the ship and assessing the damage.

Bryan chuckled. "No, I doubt the people will really, care, but maybe some sort of parliament department of something or other." He looked her over, putting his hands down and sweeping his arm down to scoop up his towel again. "So where you from, sweetheart? Rarely get any aliens around here, especially ones that look so human." He draped the towel over his shoulder. "I should probably help get this either cleaned up or covered up. Don't want the government, or, ever worse, the media down here and burst the public's little bubble that the universe is actually bigger than the solar system." He held out a hand to her. "I'm Bryan."

Jenny watched him from out of the corner of her eye as she finished her ship repair calculations. “I’m from Messaline,” she replied simply, not understand half of what he was talking about. But she nodded anyways. “I’m going to have to fix that,” she said indicating the wing of the shuttle that has half gone. She smiled as he introduced himself and was perplexed for a moment as he held out his hand, it took her a few moments to realize what it was he was doing, she had never shook someone’s hand before and it was an odd feeling trying out the practice. She gripped his hand and shook it. “I’m Jenny.” She said brightly. “So… there are not a lot of visitors from other places here then?” She asked. She wasn’t surprised. The only visitors she had ever seen on her own planet were her dad, Donna, and their friend Martha.

"Well, we do get a lot of visitors, but the public doesn't exactly know about it. They'd freak out if they knew," Bryan said with a smile. He then moved over to inspect the wing. "Wow, you took some pretty heavy damage on your way in." He looked over at her, noticing now that her head was bleeding. "You're hurt."

Reaching up Jenny irritably wiped at the blood still lingering on her forehead and gazed upon the blood on her hand as if it had mortally offended her. “It’s nothing, just a scratch.” She said with a touch of bravo in her voice. “It wasn’t exactly a landing I was intending to make; this planet just appeared out of nowhere.” She said confused at how she had gotten here in the first place. She still couldn’t figure out how it had happened.

Brayn chuckled a bit. "I don't think that's entirely possible. You must have run into at least a couple planets on your way in." He went over to her, though she protested that it was just a scratched, and started to use the towel to clean off her forehead. "I can show you a map of the solar system to demonstrate what I mean."

She was feeling a little surge of anger well up from some place within. She knew what was and what wasn’t and this planet or any planet for that matter was not present. “There were no planets within a half of a light year from my ship. There was nothing until I found myself falling from the sky and landing here.” She swept a hand across the shattered bits of trees and other vegetation. She winced when he put the towel up against the stinging abrasion and she wanted nothing more than to get back into her ship and continuing her personal quest to find her father. But she really did not have any idea where she was and seeing a map of this universes solar system would be a good place to start. “Seeing a map would be good though, thanks.” She said. A map will make it easier to leave this place, she thought.

He apologized quietly when she winced. "I'll take you to Torchwood, but I don't know how well you'll be accepted there. I'll have to pass you off as human, but it shouldn't be much of a problem." He looked at her, tossing ideas around in his head. "It's also possible that you came in through the Rift."

If Torchwood was more exciting than being in the middle of nowhere with nothing more than a soggy human and a wrecked twisted metal ship then she was game. But she wasn’t sure how she was to pass herself off as human. She decided that she had little choice but to play along. “The Rift? What is the Rift?” she asked, thinking that it sounded rather dangerous.

"Well, there's this rift in Time and space the runs right through the middle of Cardiff. Unseen and unknown to anyone but Torchwood and some bloke who calls himself the Doctor. People and things from different times and places on Earth or space fall through and end up here," Bryan explained. "Come on, let's get you there. I'll give you a tour and try to convince them not to give you Retcon." He smiled a bit at her.

Time and space. There was that phrase again. Donna had said that her dad traveled through it saving civilizations and doing a lot of running. Was the Rift how he did it? Did he use it to travel and what about the blue box? How did that fit in? As she listened to his explanation of what the Rift was she froze. The Doctor? These people know about The Doctor? A look of startled surprise appeared in her eyes. “I think that going to Torchwood may be a very good idea…” She said almost thoughtfully. “What is Retcon?” She asked feeling as if she was one for questions. She knew so very little about anything, except fighting and war.
