Kendra watched him. If he was lying he was really good at it. She sighed. "I'm sorry." She hadn't answered any of his questions, but he never seemed to notice.

The Doctor ordered his own food while Melissa waited for her order to be put together.
She glanced at him. Although she didn't know any towns that were completely destroyed by a war, she could tell that his loss was real. She thought to herself, "you'd think that something like that would have made the news."

Kendra made her order. She looked to the Doctor. Maybe he was like Wolverine, and his home lost in an old war. It would explain how out of place he seemed to be.

Once Melissa got her food, she took it to a table and sat down. The Doctor got his food soon after, sitting down next to her.
Melissa then whispered to him, "I'm sorry that you...you lost your town."
He nodded at her, not saying anything. Even after all these years, the war still haunted him. Both of them waited for Kendra to get there.

Kendra got her food and sat in front of them at the table. "Yeah," she said along with Melissa's comment. She really didn't want to say anything now. She was already planning her escape plan. As soon as she told him her mutant name, if he made any sort of response, she'd take off.

The Doctor and Melissa could both tell that Kendra was nervous.
Tyler decided it was time to get something to eat, so he headed in the direction of the same restaurant that Melissa and the others were already eating in.
The Doctor started eating, also drinking from his banana flavored milk shake.

Kendra had a good ole' American cheeseburger and fries with a chocolate milkshake. She had to hold back a moan. It had been too long since she had a real American cheeseburger. On the seas for the past four years brought her everywhere. Everywhere with cheap imitations of American food.

Tyler sat down at the table next to theirs. He had gotten his food fast and had begun eating.
_____ Melissa was savoring her food as well. She had gotten the same thing as Kendra.
The Doctor frowned. "I'm used to British food, but this is good." He had also gotten a cheeseburger.

"I've had British fish and chips. It's alright, but I would trade it for a cheeseburger and fries any day," Kendra said, glancing over at Tyler in the table beside them. But then she looked back to her food, taking a drink of her milkshake.

Since Tyler was within hearing range, sitting at the table next to theirs, his ears perked up at the sound of the Doctor's voice. He also heard the discussion about British food.
He thought to himself, "Someone else who is from England is here."
He glanced over at them. Since it had been a male voice, and there was only one male, he knew it had to have been the guy who was from England.
Melissa spoke up, "yeah....I've had them too....they are good....I don;t mind eating food from all over the world."
The Doctor smiled at that comment. She would make a good traveling companion.

"You might not say that. I've been around the world, and some people eat some nasty things," Kendra said. She was savoring her chocolate milkshake. "Nothing beats this, in my opinion. If other people could get a milkshake just right, I will gladly stay there forever."
"Especially if it means being away from the other mutants trying to recruit me," she added to herself mentally.

The Doctor looked at Kendra with interest. "You've traveled around the world.....hmm....what about the universe?"
Could this Kendra be an alien? Perhaps that's why she was acting so....strange.
Tyler continued to eat his food, wishing that he could remember what being in England was like.

"The universe? No. That would be so cool though. Think spacemen could get a burger and milkshake right?" Kendra asked. She noticed his interest in her now that he knew she had traveled. What if he had been following her?

The Doctor nodded, "Oh, yes....." He grinned at the thought of eating at some of the places that he had. "So, how did you travel?" he asked her. "You don't have a vortex manipulator, do you?" He looked at her wrists, but didn't see one.
"Ever traveled in time?"

"A what?" Kendra asked, laughing a little. "No, I travel by boat most of the time, sometimes my foot or car or train or something. Traveled in time? Well, no, that's impossible without traveling faster that the speed of light, like Einstein said."
