The Doctor stared at Kendra. "Nothing is really impossible....you've never traveled on an airplane?"
He frowned. either this girl wasn't an alien, or she was just pretending.
Melissa watched the Doctor. He was definitely cute, but he seemed like he was slightly insane.

"Nope, never had the money," Kendra said. He saw the look of disappointment on his face. Apparently he had not noticed that she totally evaded his questions. She was glad about that.

The Doctor continued to look at Kendra suspiciously. He was certain that she was hiding something. Finally, he looked directly at her and said, "You know, I'm not human."
Melissa stared at him, "What??!" Now she was certain that this man was insane. "What are you, if you're not human?"
The Doctor replied, "I'm a Time Lord."

Kendra stared at him. She was right. "Nice fancy name. What can you do then?" she asked. She was convinced he was a mutant now.

The Doctor frowned at Kendra. He'd expected her to reveal to him that she was an alien herself, but that hadn't worked. Kendra was being very closed with them.
After letting out a sigh, he replied, "You've never heard of my kind? Not even a legend? Well, I travel around the universe in time and space."

"I've heard of your kind. Actually I'm one too, only not in those terms. That's a cool power. I manipulate water," Kendra said. She figured if the truth was going to come out, it might as well be now.

The Doctor stared at her as he shoved another mouthful of food into his mouth. Once he had swallowed, he responded. "No, no...I mean...yes, we're both aliens, but you...you can't be a Time Lord. They're all dead....well, except for me."
Not wanting to offend her, he continued, "So your kind ...your species manipulates water. What are you, then?"
He studied her, hoping that she would answer soon.
Melissa just looked from the Doctor to Kendra, not knowing what to think.

"What are you talking about? Of course I'm not-... Wait, what?! You're an alien?!" Kendra exclaimed, maybe a bit louder than desired.

The Doctor nodded, "Yeah...I thought you had that figured out...."
"So you see, you're not the only one here....but what is your kind?"
Tyler stared at the other table. It seemed like he was surrounded by insane people. He ate his food as quickly as he could.

"I thought you were a mutant, like me," Kendra whispered to the Doctor. "So, what's Gallifrey? Your home planet?"
She glanced toward the table beside her, seeing the guy there. She frowned to see that he was a skeptic.

The Doctor nodded, "Yeah....Gallifrey is...well, was...my home planet."
He then studied her for another moment, "A mutant? What do you mean, a mutant. I've never heard of human mutants before.....though I have heard of Dalek mutants....Daleks are mutated Kalads anyway....but.....you would have thought that I would have heard something about a human mutant."
At the word "Dalek," Tyler felt physically ill, not knowing why. A wave of fear passed over him. As the Doctor continued talking, Tyler relaxed somewhat. What in the world was a "Dalek?"

Kendra looked confused. "Never heard of mutants? Wow, you must not have been here long." She was so grateful that he didn't ask her name, though she would gladly tell him her mutant name now. Now that she knew he wasn't a mutant.

The Doctor responded, "I spend most of my time in London when I'm on Earth.....can't really say that I've been to Boston before."
Melissa looked at him. "You're really an alien?"
"Yep...." he answered.
"But you look human......are you different from humans?"
"Oh yes," he answered. "I....have two hearts.....among other things...."

"Wow..." Kendra said. "Well..." She had no idea what to say now. He was an alien, not a mutant. So was it safe around him or not?

Tyler finished eating his food as quickly as he could. A waiter came with the check. After paying, Tyler got up and walked outside.
The Doctor and Melissa also finished eating. Melissa looked back at Kendra, "What do you mean when you say that you are a mutant?"
The Doctor was curious as well. "With the Kalads, they had a war going on...got nuclear....and they started to mutate. One of their brightest scientists mutated them further -- and created the Dalek...."
