Melissa decided to go to the local library and get some reading done. She stepped out of her motel and started walking in that direction. She had a lot of research to do if she was ever going to have a chance at helping her client out.
Although her family was vacationing in Boston, she was trying to get some work done so that she would have something useful to offer once she returned. Her family had decided to go swimming in the pool, and she had chosen to use that opportunity to catch up on some work.

Kendra smiled and took a deep breath as she stepped off of the dock and onto the pavement. She sighed, "Nice Boston air. It has been too long."
"Tempest," a young man said from the house boat.
Kendra smiled as she looked back at him. "Yeah?"
"Don't forget your bag," the young man said, tossing it to her. "And, like I said before, don't hesitate to call me if you need a place to stay."
Kendra smiled at him. "I will, and thanks again. I've had a wonderful time." She then headed down the street, looking for something new to do.

Melissa continued walking down the street in the direction of the local library. It was then that Melissa saw a young woman also walking down the street. Fully aware that in big cities people didn't really greet one another, Melissa chose to do so anyway.
"People could be a little more friendly, anyway," Melissa thought to herself.
Melissa smiled at Kendra and said, "Hello."

Kendra looked over to Melissa. "Hello..." She was a bit cautious, but friendly nonetheless.

(on this forum we can have longer posts than on fanfiction....try to keep posts about five sentences or more in length, though I'm not going to be picky about it ) Melissa noticed that Kendra looked uncomfortable. "I'm sorry," Melissa said. "I did not mean to make you uncomfortable..." She felt bad, and she was well aware that she was probably making the situation worse for herself. Melissa had already initiated the conversation, so there was no turning back now. "Do you know what kind of selection of books the local library has?"

(Oh, okay, I didn't know)
"Oh, no, I'm alright, you just don't see very many people just coming up and saying 'Hello' from out of nowhere," Kendra said. In truth, she was a bit suspicious that this girl may be an agent of either side of the mutant battle. She smiled at the question posed to her. "I'm sorry to say that I don't know. See, I've only gotten here." She gestured to the bag over her shoulder.

(It's okay I think it will make for a better story. It'll add more depth to the stories and characters. Good for character development. It was a rule that the old Master here had, and I kept it.) Melissa replied, "You're on vacation, too, then. So am I. Where are you originally from?" Melissa enjoyed meeting people from all over the world,, finding out where they were from, what they did, what their culture was like, etc. She could tell that this other girl was still suspicious of her, but she didn't mind. Maybe the two of them could become friends. ____________ The Doctor landed his TARDIS in Boston 2010. He appreciated the rich history of the city, and decided that a relaxing vacation was just what he needed. He walked off in the direction of a flower bed, smiling. Flowers were among his favorite plants. He had a garden in his TARDIS, which was full of plants of all kinds. If he saw an Earth flower that he liked, it wouldn't be unheard of for him to check it to see if it had produced seeds...and if those seeds were ripe, he would take them.

Kendra smiled. "You could say that." There was a hidden sadness to her smile. She couldn't really tell the truth, not without getting herself into so much trouble. Last person she told who she really was ended up with a thousand holes in him because he wanted to protect her.

Melissa noted that this woman had not answered her question about where she was from. "I'm from Ohio, originally," Melissa added. "I was born there."
"Did you want to walk to the library with me?" Melissa asked the girl. It seemed to her that this girl was trying to hide something, but she didn't know what. Maybe if she befriended the girl, she might open up and confide in her. It wasn't good for anyone to hide important things from other people.

Kendra smiled a little. "I'm not really from anywhere. A traveler at heart."
She considered her offer seriously. On the one hand, this girl seemed nice and she didn't want to put her in danger, but on the other hand, being inside was safer than outside.
"Sure, I'll go with you," she said.

Melissa smiled at the girl's response. "All right, thank you. This is a big city, and I feel safer if I'm not alone. Besides, I think it's more fun."
Melissa waited for Kendra to catch up to her. She could tell that Kendra looked nervous and worried about something.
She thought to herself, "I wonder what has her so worried...has she seen something...a gang or something?
"What's your name, anyway? My name is Melissa," she said to the girl.

Kendra nodded and followed Melissa. "I agree on that. I've been here only once before." She listened to her question and gave her the response she had programmed herself to since the disaster. "I'm Tempest."

Upon hearing the girl's name, Melissa looked at her, confused. Not wanting to offend the girl, she tried not to let it show. "This girl certainly has a DIFFERENT sort of name," Melissa thought to herself.
Melissa replied to the girl, "That's an unusual name. I don't think I've ever heard that name before. It's very pretty."
Melissa had started walking again, nearing the entrance to the library.

Kendra shrugged. "Parents were unusual people. I've only ran into one Tempest before. Thanks." It was her mutant name, the name the brotherhood would call her, and the X-men too, usually, except Professor Xavier.

Melissa smiled at Kendra. "What kind of books to you usually like to read?" she asked her as they both entered the library.
Melissa looked around at the vast selections of books. She then looked at Kendra and asked, "What were your parents like?"
It looked to Melissa that Kendra was deep in thought about something.
