When Tyler saw how much ahead the Doctor was, he looked over at Breck. "He certainly can walk fast, can't he?"
Tyler, however, was not so far behind the Doctor that he didn't hear what he had said. "What do you mean....it disappeared? Do martians have the ability to just disappear like that? What's a martian look like, anyway?"
(what sort of creatures should we have on Mars? Should we have the creatures from Waters of Mars or should we have it be so that those are controlled, and we have real life on Mars? What do you think?)

(It would be pretty neat if Davros had some sort of secret base on Mars;) But anything, of course, is up for grabs. Hmmm.......even small lil dust critters. Alien dust bunnies!!)

Breck stumbled a bit as she tried her best to keep up. She wasn't in bad shape herself but she was much more used to riding either on a horse or in her truck rather than using her own two feet. "Great, we're jus' hoofin' it along on Mars! Not much to sight see, just red rocks, red dust and...red mountains. And here I forgot my camera. What's that you said about something you hold and it makes your worries go away? Man, could I ever use that! Not only here but every day to boot!"
She paused besides Tyler and eyed the Doctor. "You mean you lost the trail? Ain't there no tracks or sumthin' t'follow?"

"Energy or time traces wouldn't leave tracks one can see," the Doctor mused. He held up the instrument which looked more like something one would find in a kitchen stirring gravy or measuring temperature than the high-tech tool it was. (The fork he had stuck in one side to boost the reception didn't help.)
"Time energy only exists for a few moments, I'm lucky to have picked it up at all. Still as long as it doesn't veer about we should be able to intercept the ship if we continue in this general direction. Everybody all right? Then let's go!"
Without another word he strode off through the Martian dust, then he added "If you had wanted to bring a cameras along you should have mentioned that when we were back in the TARDIS. I have a whole room full of them from Brownies to ultraviolet screens!"

Tyler responded to Breck, "Oh.....it's just an old watch thing that I have.....can't get it to you now because of the suit. I'll show it to you later....it's just an old family relic...belonged to my great grandparents, I think.....but it does comfort me and cause me to think of home...." Tyler continued to try to keep up with the Doctor. "Hey....you mean you can track time energy....are martians made of that? Or what....how does that help?" He smiled at Breck. "hmmm....it would have been nice to take a few pictures of Mars....has anyone ever set foot on Mars besides us?" (okay...you can PM Davros about this thread )

"I dunno, somehow I thought exploring another planet would be a bit more interestin'. All I'm seein' right now is a bunch of rocks and dust. Heck, I couldn't driven over to the Wichita Mountains fer that! How come you don't have any rover-truck-vehicle thingy anyway?" she called over to the Doctor. "What if the thing you're lookin' for is a few miles off?"

Tyler glanced at Breck, "How do we know he doesn't have one of those things in that big blue box? I'm sure he has all kinds of things in there......but if he doesn't, then I guess we'll just have to walk......the ground is weird.....I can't believe that I'm actually walking on another planet."
He looked around. Breck was certainly right....all that they had surrounding them were rocks and dust. Still, maybe there was life on this planet. Tyler sort of hoped there would be something interesting....anything was better than the rocks.

"You're dawdling again!" The Doctor called out. He was holding up the instrument and slowly waving it back and forth. "At the rate you're going it will be next week before we....uh oh. Lost it again. Almost had it but....no. It's gone."
He dropped his arms and glared about the scenery in front of him. "Perhaps there's some mineral deposit that interfering with the wavelength. No matter, the TARDIS will be able to sniff it out. She's a lot stronger than this little thing."
He started walking towards them but then help up the instrument and stared at it. It had suddenly come back to life. "Wait! Wait wait wait...it's.....behind you now!"
He once again strode off, past Tyler and Breck and towards another set of hills in the distance.

"What?" Breck spun around and almost lost her balance in doing so. "What are we chasing here, a coyot?"
She made a face but followed the Doctor as best she could. "I bet Neil Armstrong never had to deal with something like this!"

"Actually Neil Armstrong had to deal with something a bit more annoying than this," the Doctor murmured almost absently. "I helped him with it even though he could have figured it out on his own. But time was of the essence, if they were going to get off the moon in time."

Tyler just stared at the Doctor, well, as much as he could stare at someone in the spacesuit. "You mean....you mean you met Neil Armstrong and helped him out when he was on the moon....why....why didn't he ever talk about you or whatever it is that you're referring to...."
Tyler tried to catch up with the Doctor, attempting to walk a bit faster.
Tyler looked at he hills with interest. "Hills....hills on Mars.......I .....okay.....let's go..." he glanced at Breck. "You doing okay...keeping up with him and everything?"

"I asked him not to. After all the mission was supposed to be about Earth and the moon, not about any aliens. It was much too soon for that. Now let's see......the trace seems to be getting stronger now...right about....there!" He pointed in the direction off to the side then looked up from the instrument. "Oh well......that's certainly different from the rocks and hills!"
Set just below a red towering cliff was a small metal-looking shack.

Tyler stared at where the Doctor was pointing. He had to look at it twice because he hadn't expected anything to be built by hand there -- by human or alien hand.
"There....there really are mmmartians....martians...." Tyler stuttered in complete shock. A metal shack meant that there was at least one other person there -- someone who hadn't come there with them.
"Are Martians friendly? They're not going to shoot us with some sort of ray gun, are they?" Tyler asked the Doctor.

The Doctor paused a moment, thinking about the Ice Warriors. Were they here in this time period? It was getting rather hard to keep track of such htings. He finally came to a conclusion and shook his head. "No, I don't believe it's Martians, the climate has gotten a bit too warm for them. But I am curious as to who moved in."

Tyler glanced at the Doctor. "Are all aliens as friendly as you are? If so, maybe we could just go and knock on the door?"
He looked hesitantly back at the Doctor. "Do all aliens look like us? I mean...you're an alien, and you look human....so maybe all aliens have the same appearance."
Uncertain what to do, Tyler mentally measured the distance between the metal shack and where they were standing.
Glancing back at Breck, Tyler asked her, "Are you all right?"
