"The differences are minor and mostly within," the Doctor smiled, trying to put both humans at ease. "The most obvious difference would be my having two hearts as opposed to your one. Some other inside differences but there's no need to get into such details. Why don't we all just sit down, have a spot of tea and chat until this storm passes by?"
He made a gesture towards a small area away from the console that seemed to have some rather antiqued furniture backed by heavy velvet drapes.

Tyler, relieved that Breck had moved towards him also gravitated towards her.
A look of unbelief crossed Tyler's face as he let out a laugh. "Two hearts? Really? So there really ARE beings with two hearts. Guess that goes to show that the mind can come up with things that are very close to reality."
Realizing that what he'd said was probably confusing too the others, he clarified. "Well, I mean, I've had dreams about aliens with two hearts. I guess I've been watching a bit too much sci-fi."
Although this Doctor was an alien, he seemed friendly enough. "A spot of tea would be brilliant. I have to say that this is the first time I've ever waited out a storm in a spacecraft."

"Two hearts? I guess that's great, you have a spare!" Breck gave a weak laugh as they made their way to the furniture. She didn't quite grasp Tyler's arm but she was pretty close to doing so. She gingerly sat down on the overstuffed couch as if she expected something to leap up at her. "This is...nice. I thought all spaceship furniture was...y'know...made up of metal or something!"

"Yes, here we are. No,I don't care to decorate with metal, too stiff and too sterile. Not much imagination to that design!" He also didn't mention that such surroundings reminded him of hospitals. The Doctor sat down on one of the separate chairs and reached out to the teaset that had appeared from somewhere. He poured a cup out and handed it to Tyler. "Dreams of aliens, you say? Also with two hearts? Rather unusual but those sci-fy movies can be a bit of a stretch at times. I watched one of a gryphon supposedly terrorizing New York City. Can't say I cared for it, as I happen to know of a race that would match the gryphon description perfectly but they're not at all violent. They call themselfs Gryffars and they are very pleasent company. They're great writers and historians and the libraries they have! No proper Gryffar would ever be without at least one room devoted to books." He paused a bit, in thought. "But I find it a bit tedious to stay too long, as their talk tends to turn into lectures!"

Tyler nodded at the Doctor, "Yeah....even dreamed that I was an alien with two hearts before.....strange stuff....that's why it just kind of surprised me to learn that there actually was such a thing. Yeah, dreamed of all kinds of aliens....but then I love to read and watch science fiction, so I suppose that my mind just throws stuff together and puts it in my mind when I sleep.. I do enjoy those sci-fi dreams."
He noticed how close the other human was getting to him, and he didn't really mind. The ship weirded him out a bit, although he did appreciate the comfortable chairs.
"Yeah, I would expect an alien to be sort of unfeeling....that's how most of them are portrayed."
He had to laugh, though, at the Doctor's comment about meeting creatures that were very different from what humans had come up with in their imaginations.

Breck wasn't sure if the tale about the Gryffars was true or if this Doctor was just making it up but what could she do but go along? After all, they were in -his- spaceship and there was no telling what he could do. He could very easily shove them out the door on some deserted planet!
She sipped the tea he had handed her and took a bit of comfort in the familiar taste. "So you still brew tea, not getting it out of a replicator thing?" she smiled weakly, trying to relax. "Or have it all packaged in little plastic pouches?"
The Doctor was about to reply when suddenly the TARDIS lurched and she spilled her tea all over the velvet couch. "What th....what happened??" This time she -did- clutch Tyler's arm!
(Heh, time to shake things up a bit;) )

Tyler jumped a bit when Breck clutched his arm. He held onto the chair with his other arm, trying to keep himself in his seat.
"What....what was that? Is that normal? Like airplane turbulence...or did we hit something?"
He looked at the alien expectantly.
Tyler had taken a sip of the tea himself, but had put his cup down just before the violent disturbance.
Tyler frowned. "Oh,....the storm....sorry....I was busy thinking we were in a space ship, but we haven't gone anywhere, right? This box is going to be smashed if we are caught up in a tornado."

In what seemed just an instant the Doctor had got up to his feet, put down his cup and was at the console controls. Another shudder shook the ship but he quickly did another adjustment and it settled down.
"Hmmm, now that's odd," he muttered to himself, then aloud said "Oh we're not even near that storm now, in fact we're orbiting Mars. I thought it might be a treat for you to see another planet. However, there seems to be...." His voice trailed off as he studied the screen. "No, that shouldn't be there. That shouldn't be there at all."

Tyler raised his eyebrows -- "Mars -- we're orbiting around Mars.....i....I hope you know what you're doing? What is it? What's wrong?"
The idea that something could be wrong with the spaceship that they were in made Tyler nervous. It wasn't as if they could just wait around for someone in space to come and pick them up. Besides, their phones certainly wouldn't work out here.
"I really hope that we aren't stuck here...."
Tyler glanced at the Doctor suspiciously.

Breck had closely followed Tyler to the console and wasn't feeling one bit assured at what she was hearing.
"What? What's going on! Mars! What th' hell are we doing there??!! I just want to get back to my ranch, I got chores to do and my truck to get out (which you still owe me, by the way). How are we gonna get back? Did we crash or what?"
Breck hated to come off like a whiney kid but this was just so far out of her league and she had no way of knowing how to cope with it all. She covered her face with her hands. "We're gonna die out here and nobody'll know why I'm gone."

"We're not going to crash," the Doctor replied almost absently as he activated another part on the console. He needed more information on what was showing on the screen before him. "And we didn't hit anything either. Well, not in the physical sense anyway. We simply crossed over another timeline. Yes, it's sort of like airplane turbulence but in another dimension. Yes, there it is." He pointed to the screen, stepping to one side so the humans could observe the shimmering blue line across it. "That's from us, in the TARDIS. And here..." He flipped another lense over the screen almost like the eye-testing mechanism in an optometrist's office. Now they saw a slight reddish streak crossing over the blue one. "That's the other timeline. Which is rather odd as I didn't pick up any other vessel about in the near time vicinity. And the TARDIS didn't give any warning either. Most strange."
He studied the screen then looked up and gave a mischievous smile. Another bit of flipping switches transferred the view of the small screen to the huge one above. There the whole planet of Mars slowly turned before them and stars blanketed the black cosmos. He pointed to a tiny white streak on the red planet.
"That's where whatever it was seems to have landed. Shall we go and investigate?"

All Breck could do was stare upwards at the sight of the space above her and gape. It was so large, so immense, so....beautiful! Nothing on earth could even begin to compare to such a view. She felt almost as if she could just float up and get swallowed by it all. "Oh... my ...stars!" she whispered. "Look at that!"
She finally snapped out of it and turned to look at the Doctor. "In-investigate? You mean, as in going out there?? I'm no rocket scientist but I seem to remember something about there being no atmosphere on Mars? As in not being able to breath?!"

Tyler nodded at Breck, "There isn't any atmosphere on Mars, and we won't be able to breathe if we go out there." He glanced at the Doctor suspiciously, "You might be okay out there, seeing how you're an alien...I don't know if you even breathe at all, but us humans can't just go walking around on other planets without a spacesuit. We need oxygen in order to survive."
Tyler incorrectly made the assumption that the Doctor didn't know anything about humans, and had never met one either.

"Now since this -is- a space ship after all, wouldn't you think there'd be some survival suits aboard?" The Doctor gave them both a sideways grin. "I'm sure I can find something that's suitable for all of us. Let me just set the landing co-ordinates now....all right! There."
He turned and walked to a door behind him. He opened it with a grand flourish to reveal row after row after row after row of hanging suits, all with various colors, helmets and boots. "Take your pick! They've been collecting dust over the centuries but they're all still intact."

Tyler nodded at the Doctor's remark. "Yes, I suppose that would make sense for you to have some survival suits somewhere, but this doesn't really look like a normal space ship, you know. It's a small little blue box, at least on the outside."
He had followed the Doctor to where the suits were hanging. Selecting one that looked about the right size, Tyler pulled it off the hooks, trying it on for size.
"So what do you think?"
