"You're welcome." She said, a little breathlessly, having watched this demonstration of the girl's mind and co-ordination.
It had been her intention to have Mr.Smith instruct the girl on how to unscramble to toy. Instead, Sarah Jane had just been handed the answer to at least five of the questions she'd intended to investigate about the Archetype Mark 2.
"You're quite a clever girl, Archetype 2. You did that very well. Luke loved that toy for about fifteen minutes. Then it seemed he'd learned all he could from it. After that he used it to calculate fourth dimensional geometry. Archetype, do you know what the square root of 324 is?"
Mr.Smith could wait. Sandwiches could wait. Right now she was stunned and overcome with curiosity.

She thought about it for a moment, considered the toy and twisted the object in her hand. The next question interested her slightly. What was the square root of 324? "18...right?" she answered, askin for conformation, tilting her head to the side a little.
She looked at Sarah Jane and kept hold of the toy, not completely wanting to put it down.

A slow smile comes to her face as she sees this deep similarity between the the Archetype Mark 2 to her son, Luke, the Archetype 1. So, once again, the Bane had enhanced Sarah Jane's own DNA with the best the human race had to offer. At least as far as math was concerned. "That is exactly right. Well done."
Now, a test that interested her even more.
"Archetype Two, toss the Cube to me?
She reached out her hands, ready to catch.

She blinked at Sarah Jane for a moment, considering weather or not to attempt this possibly dangerous and harmful action. After a moments consideration, she moved her hand down a bit and then up and out slightly in a swift motion, throwing the cube toward Sarah Jane so she could get it, unsure if it would work, clatter to the floor or cause any physical injury to the women.
The Archetype Mark 2's hand now felt empty without her lovely cubic device and her eyes went over to her socks, the second most entertaining thing she'd found besides her cube. The socks and their pink and white striped....stripeyness.

Sarah Jane caught it and put it on the table. By the time she looked back, smiling, at the girl, she'd gone away into her little world again. Picking up the Cat's Cradle string from the table, she got up and stood beside the computer.
"Mr. Smith, I need you." She said, her eyes on the girl.
Mr. Smith came on line, opening wide wings, venting pressure from the cooling system, and his large monitor rippling in crystalline display. "Hello Sarah Jane, how can I be of assistance?" It said in polite tenor tones.

Her eyes went to the cube as it was set on the table aside so as to not be a distraction...that wasn't working because it was still a very promonent one. Sarah Jane's hands had moved to somethign else, a series of strings...how odd, why did she have that around? What was it? What did it do? These questions berated her mind, blocking all other thought out.
Soon though, Sarah Jane's voice came into view, summoning someone called Mr. Smith, not of any consiquence to the Archetype 2 though. Then it came, the noise, so strange and loud and all around her. This startled the redhead as her eyes floated to the plooms of smoke that came from the thing in the wall. Soon enough it appeared, large, colourful and very pretty to look at, a computer.
It spoke then, requesting to know what Sarah Jane wanted and tha confused her, thurally confused and surprised her. Computers didn't talk, or she'd been sure of that till just this point but now...the Mark 2 didn't know what to think.
This was all very complicated and interesting. The mystary of the striped socks, and the puzzle cube had been solved. Now there was the question of hte strange string, the talking computer and what was going to happen. Such an odd conundrum.
Her feet moved, without her direction, instinctivly backwards toward the opposite wall of the attic. Unsure of what else to do she sank down to the floor, bringing her arms around her kness and half staring at the computer and half not. "I don't know....." she half muttered in defeat. The Archetype Mark 2 didn't know what to make of this situation.

"Shh-- shh-- it's alright. " She said, fingers splayed, hands patting softly down the air as if to pat down fear from the vantage point where she stood. The smile on her face is half because there is nothing to fear, and half because the Archetype Mark 2 was proving herself to be less and less of a threat. Either the girl really was this jumpy, or she was an amazing actress.
"This is my friend I told you about, remember? He's just a big computer, okay? Is it too much? Are you too tired? Hungry? Do you want to play with Mr.Smith? Or do you want to just have your sandwich and go to bed? Luke is already asleep downstairs."
She had learned enough that she felt certain she could overcome any threat that the Archetype Mark 2 might pose if she harbored the girl overnight.
Sarah Jane had no intentions of sleeping this night anyway.

She watched Sarah Jane's movements, listened to her voice taking it all in as she tried desperately to sort out her own thoughts. She listened carefully and her eyes floated to the strange string Sarah Jane had been holding, it was odd.....why did she hav th string in the first place? What purpose did it serve?
It wasn't that she was scared of Mr. Smith, the strange talking computer but rather....intimidated by him. He was large, emerged from a wall with noise and stacks of smoke and lights and fan noise. She watched him as he spoke and the bright colors moved around on the screen.
It was confusing, confusing and she didn't like it. The Mark 2 was a person...as far as she could figure out at least; who liked to know things and thought she knew enough by at least now to not get caught off guard. She was wrong and this proved it. Her eyes darted from Mr. Smith to Sarah Jane, then to the cube, then the string and repeated the motion several times, attempting to find something to concentrate on.
Sarah Jane had asked her questions, did she want to eat...maybe in a bit, did she want to sleep? Nope, not right now this was too interesting. She then heard did she want to play with Mr. Smith? Her idea of play might not be what others thought, aside from her new cube she didn't know what fun really was or what other people thought of as fun.
She stood up and walked closer to the super-computer, eyes trained on the colors, the pretty marvelous, captivating colors. Her eyes followed them as the colors moved and illuminated in her own eyes. She was enthralled in the luminescent light of the screen, temporarily losing herself in them.
Regaining her thought, she spoke unsure of what to say. "Hello." she said in a somewhat tiny voice. "What's the square root of 362?" she asked him unsure if he would want to answer or not. The Archetype mark 2 began to wonder if Mr. Smith could decline the release of information or not, what were his limits? She wanted to ask so many things, but that would wait for now.
She stood there, in front of Mr. Smith, unsure of what to do, if she'd done the correct thing or not, and amazed by the lights.

Such an odd, feral little person the Archetype Mark 2 was. Sarah Jane simmered within over whatever events had lead her to be so terribly wary. Sarah Jane watched the girl struggle with Mr.Smith's rather bold presence in opposition to it's attractive possibilities. The way the girl longed for the Rubik's Cube was near heartbreaking, and Sarah Jane was sorry she'd used it as part of the test.
It had been important to know if the Archetype Mark 2 would listen to Sarah Jane, even if perhaps she didn't want to. And, for a moment, she wondered if the girl was going to try to brain her with it when she threw it, but the girl had sent it to her in an easy, fairly accurate gentle lob. Well, at least she wouldn't have to lock her down tonight. Luke's room would be fine when it was time for the girl to retire.
Mr.Smith answered the girl's question. "The square root of three hundred sixty two is nineteen point zero two six two nine seven six." the machine declared instantly, the equation showing on the screen.
Sarah Jane took a step or two until she was standing right in front of the computer, and next to the girl. She let her eyes rest on the shifting display of the computer,
"Mr.Smith can work out much more than numbers. Watch this. Mr. Smith, reference a game called "Cat's Cradle" and then display a graphic representation of hands and a string of the weaving of the game, one third speed."
She smiled reassuringly at the Archetype 2 as she began to set up the heavy string loop on her own hands in the first position. It was only a few heartbeats before Mr.Smith began to run the display, showing both two young children playing the game in real time on Sesame Street, and the other half of the screen showing a representation in slow motion.

OOC: HA Sesame street. lol.
IC:
She watched as the equation appeared on the screen and listened as Mr. Smith said the answer aloud. She nodded in agreement. "I got that one too." she replied somewhat proud of herself for having known the answer as the computer had. She looked up at Sarah Jane and blinked as she spoke. So Mr. Smith could do more then math huh? Interesting.
Soon enough, after a request from Sarah Jane to display the string game called Cat's Cradle, two small children appeared on screen. She watched them for a second and blinked again "They know the game? Did they get taught it?" she asked Sarah Jane or Mr. Smith, whoever answered first. A thought struck her. "Do they know they're being filmed?" she asked
Then, the diagram of the movements appeared and she watched it, analyzing everything she saw to make sure she got it right. She then looked at Sarah Jane who was mimicking some of the movements. She had to admit, it looked fun. The Mark 2 looked over at Mr. Smith and commented "I like the diagram one more...less questions to consider." she said, referring to the questions she'd asked earlier.

Two, low soft sounds of understanding came from deep in her throat and whispered past her lips. With each question she uttered, the Archetype Mark 2 revealed more of herself. Sarah Jane's revelations about it all felt like repeated punches to her middle. Compassion for the girl kept her from making all but these smallest noises. Sarah Jane took a deep breath through flared nostrils, setting her will to keep her mind on her business and not to sit down and cry for a moment. She did her best to put aside her sadness. She was pretty good at that. She promised herself to deal with it later in a more private moment.
Rendered unusually speechless for a moment by the lump in her throat, she simply turned, held out her hands, fingertips up and splayed. Around them was looped the thick, smooth, multicolored string. It was easy to smile at the Archetype 2 now, for Cat's Cradle was a lovely game really, and here they both stood, healthy and hale in the safety of the Attic playing with toys in the soft shifting light of Mr.Smith's display.

The Archetype Mark 2 looked over at Sarah Jane and at the Cat's Cradle in her hands. She nodded at and watched, the smallest of smiles creeping its way onto her lips. She watched the women for a moment then moved her head to the side. "Are you...." she hesitated, not sure quite how to word it but finished anyway. "Okay?" she said, completing her question.
She looked over at Mr. Smith and then at Sarah Jane before asking something else "What else can he do?" she inquired, wanting to know everything she could, the curiosity practically radiating off her.

She stood there, watching Archetype watch her. Sarah Jane simply stood with the strings looped on her fingers, wondering if the girl would get the clue and try it. It was a game for two and she had nothing to do if the Archetype Mark 2 wouldn't play.
"I've got some worries on my mind, Archetype 2. And I don't want to think about them right now. How about a game of Cat's Cradle instead? See those kids there?" She quirked an eyebrow at the screen where the young pair sat, still playing silently in an endless loop.
"They're not thinking about anything but Cat's Cradle. Not only are they having fun, see them smiling? They are also getting paid to be filmed. It's their job, but it's a really easy job. Yes, someone taught them how to play Cat's Cradle." She didn't say anything about the string on her own hands, but she moved them an inch closer to the girl. "Mr. Smith, add the audio, please. Softly."
Now they could hear the children's pip squeak giggles. She grinned at the Archetype 2.

The Archetype Mark 2's eyes went to the screen as the audio began and the children's squeals of delight emanated from it. Her eyes moved back to Sarah Jane as the answers to her questions started. she nodded and looked at the string for the Cat's Cradle game, moving her fingers into the places they needed to be for the game to begin.
The game would start and it would be fun, fun like other people had and she could have.

She studied the half-wild girl as she spoke to Mr.Smith.
"Mr.Smith, switch the audio to the Beatles 'Revolver' on low." The entity/computer didn't bother to answer and simply do so. It had taken quite a bit of reprogramming to get it to agree to this. Mr.Smith was big on protocol, but she'd been working on him lately in her spare time, and their communication was becoming less irritating.
"Archetype Mark Two." She said carefully, not wanting to send the girl back to shoe gazing. "It's okay to touch my hands. It's okay to take the string. Come on. Try it. Or tell me why you wont. Please."
