Melissa felt comfortable there standing by the Doctor, reading over his shoulder. She couldn't help but smile at him....and she had caught his eye.
He really was handsome, and at that moment she was very thankful that she had met him. She still didn't know much about him, but what she did know of him, she liked.
Katie came into the room, too. She looked at Melissa and the Doctor.
"Sure he's not her boyfriend...."she thought sarcastically.
"Dinner's almost ready," Leslie announced from the kitchen. Reply Edit . Report Abuse . Ban User . Delete Post .«Jan 15th 2010, 2:42pm #33

The girls went to help out. The Doctor stood up but Melissa told him to stay, she'd call him when they were ready. He sat there still reading the book, it was only the first chapter he was on and yet it had sprung into action. He liked it a lot.
'I wonder who chose this book, it's amazing!' The Doctor thought. If it was Melissa's then she had an excellent choice in literature, then again it wouldn't come as a surprise to him after all she was a bright person. He smiled a little.
A minute later Melissa went over to The Doctor, she told him that dinner was ready and they wanted to know how much he wanted. He stood up, took off his glasses, saw a bookmark, put it in the book and followed her.
"So did you choose that book? It's very interesting." He asked obviously impressed. Reply Edit . Report Abuse . Ban User . Delete Post .«Jan 16th 2010, 5:29am #34

She smiled at the Doctor's comment.
"Well, the book does belong to me, and I had heard of it. I'd seen it in the bookstore, but at the time, I didn't buy it. My little sister saw me looking at it in the store, and she managed to give it to me for Christmas last year. So I guess you could say that I did choose it, and yet it was a gift to me."
At that moment, Leslie appeared from the kitchen. She had set the table, then turned to the Doctor and pointed to a chair, "That's your seat."
It happened to be the seat next to the one that Melissa usually was at, and of course Leslie made sure that Melissa would sit there.
Katie took the seat on Melissa's other side, while Leslie occupied the seat that was across from Melissa. Reply Edit . Report Abuse . Ban User . Delete Post .«Jan 16th 2010, 5:49am #35

He sat down, then he found that Melissa sat next to him. Even he could tell that particular movement was set up, after all he had heard the comments about them being together. All of the other girls seemed particularly happy to see them both sitting together.
Jessica sat on The Doctor's other side. He wondered how Melissa must feel, the fact that her friends thought they were together. If it bothered her or she liked it.
He turned to her, "so are a lot of the books on the shelf yours or is all sort of spread out?" He asked trying to start conversation. He didn't want to starting thinking about his companions again, especially if all of them would ask how he was.
'I wonder if any of those other books are as good...' His thoughts trailed on, his geeky side was definitely starting to show.
He didn't want to seem as if he was pushing her for an answer so he smiled sweetly. Reply Edit . Report Abuse . Ban User . Delete Post .«Jan 16th 2010, 7:40am #36

"The books on the like tan wooden shelf are mine. The ones on the black shelf are Leslie's, while the ones on the dark brown wooden shelf are Jessica's, and Sophie's are on the end table," Melissa replied as she turned to face him.
Katie spoke, "So, Doctor, what do you do? Where are you from?"
She was curious about the man that Melissa had invited over.
Melissa looked at the Doctor with interest, wondering whether or not he would answer these new questions. Melissa assumed that he would say he was from England, but she was curious to see if he went into more detail. So far, he hadn't really volunteered that much information about himself besides his name and that he was interested in American education.
Leslie watched the Doctor carefully as she began to pass some of the food around. Reply Edit . Report Abuse . Ban User . Delete Post .«Jan 16th 2010, 8:07am . Edited Jan 16th 2010, 8:08am #37

"Well, I'm from England specifically London. I've come here because I actually travel a lot, also I stopped here to study the education here. Education has been an interest of mine but I don't intend to take it up. I'm just traveling really." He answered in great length as he got a plate passed to him. It wasn't all a lie although most of it was. The girls didn't seemed to realise it wasn't all true.
"I see and why did you specifically come here to study it?" Asked Sophie taking up the chance to learn more about this man. She seemed very interested about him, more than any of the other girls.
"Well, I wasn't coming here planned but I just happened to turn up really and found this a nice place to look around." As The Doctor said that he looked at Melissa for second. He started to eat and everyone else did too.
"Where are you hoping to go then? I mean travelling wise." Sophie asked, she didn't think this man was lying at all. He smiled a lot and didn't look distrusting. She didn't really have any doubts and he certainly was a nice gentleman. All the other men Sophie had ever met were usually self centered jerks who didn't want anything serious from her. She was just their bait and she'd simply got tired of them pretending. This man however was friendly and caring, every move was slow and considerate. He seemed to know what he was doing or he was just a nice, harmless guy.
"I was hoping to travel all over the place really. But I think I'm sort of staying to travel the west for now. I didn't plan staying here but it looked like a nice, friendly place. That's why I needed a place to stay because I didn't think about this in great length obviously. Oh and by the way this is very good." He said indicating at the food. Reply Edit . Report Abuse . Melissa had the feeling that the Doctor wasn't entirely telling the truth, although parts of it seemed believable. She just felt that there were certain parts that he was hiding from them. She sighed. If he didn't want to volunteer any more information, she wouldn't force him to. Perhaps he had a good reason for hiding some of his personal information.
"There are other ways to get him to talk," Melissa thought to herself. He still hadn't told them specifically what kind of job he held. It seemed that it might have something to do with traveling a lot, but that could be just a cover for something else.
Melissa decided to volunteer some more information about herself in hopes that it would cause him to share a little more about himself.
"Traveling is always exciting. When I was younger my family and I used to take family vacations in the summer for about two weeks. We would go different places -- to Disney World in Florida, to New England, to South Dakota, to the upper peninsula of Michigan, to Washington D.C., to the Smokey Mountains in Tennessee, to the Niagara Falls, and various camping trips. We always drove to our vacation spots. We got to see a lot of different sites that way. I've been to a few countries in Europe, too."
"How far West are you planning on going? The furthest West I've been was on the trip to South Dakota. I could maybe ask my family if they had any of their tour guides and whatever. It's been a while, so you'd probably be better off getting more current books, but I can get you some for free through AAA. At least then you could sort of plan out your trip."
Melissa was curious to see whether or not he would take her up on the offer.
She hadn't missed the look that he had given her when saying that he "had found this a nice place to look around." She wondered what he thought of her, wondering whether or not he found her attractive. It almost seemed like he did from that comment, but she didn't want to read something into the remark that wasn't actually there.
All of the girls smiled at his comment regarding the food.
"Thank you," they said together.
Katie then asked the Doctor, "What kind of car did you rent?" Reply Edit . Report Abuse . Ban User . Delete Post .«Jan 16th 2010, 9:17am . Edited Jan 16th 2010, 9:26am #39

"It's fine. I don't want to trouble you anymore then I have." He said talking to Melissa. He wondered if she asked all these questions in order to get to know him, maybe she found him attractive...still it wasn't the first time he messed up the signs of seeing whether someone liked him. "I mean I've put you all through all this and I haven't done anything for you. I feel kind of guilty now." He said looking down.
"Oh, it's fine. We're always happy to welcome someone else into our place. We enjoy the company." Sophie said smiling at him, he smiled back.
Katie then asked the Doctor, "What kind of car did you rent?" He didn't have a lot of knowledge on human cars or renting then. He suddenly got quite worried but didn't show it. What would he say? What could he say? He didn't know. He was caught up in a confliction, how would he get out of it?
Suddenly, a phone rang and Katie got up to answer it. He almost let out a sigh of relief but managed to stop himself. It was a call for Melissa and Katie called for Melissa to take it.
"Excuse me." The Doctor said looking for the toilet. He didn't want to be caught in that question again. "Sorry." He whispered heading off in the general direction of the toilet.
He sat there, thinking about the time he'd spent with his friends in his time machine. It had been difficult for him recently, losing a lot of them in just a small amount of time. He reflected on the past. A small tear ran down his face, he wiped it away. Then he laughed, what was he doing sitting there getting himself upset for no reason? He sighed, he flush the toilet, washed his hands and got out. Right then another tear dripped down his face.
"Now stop it!" He told himself quietly. "You're getting yourself emotional over something that has nothing to do with this night at all. It's all in the past and now is not the past, now is the present." He turned around quickly and wiped the tear from his face. He turned to see Melissa staring at him, one eyebrow raised. He laughed. "Hey." He said waving. 'How much of that did she hear? She was there the whole time wasn't she. I should really not talk to myself.' He thought. Reply Edit . Report Abuse . Ban User . Noticing the tears on his face, Melissa looked at him carefully.
"Hey."
"First of all, you don't need to repay us for anything we do for you. You don't have to feel that you are indebted to us for letting you stay with us. We're not looking to be repaid."
"Secondly, remember what I told you before -- if you need to talk about anything, I'm here. I'm a good listener. There's obviously something that you're not telling me or the others. If you want to talk in private, we can go for a walk somewhere. Look, I don't know what happened in your past, and I'd like to help you, but I can't do that if you won't tell me what's wrong. If you don't want to talk about it, that's your choice." Reply Edit . Report Abuse . Ban User . Delete Post .«Jan 16th 2010, 10:11am #41

"Thanks. It's kind of complicated and I suppose telling someone might help me filter it out of my system." He laughed at the fact he'd told a lot of people they can tell him anything. "It'd be nice if I just told you, I think you might understand better. I don't know why but I think you'll understand it more than anyone else." He confessed, it was true there was some sort of connection that he'd had with her. Not a romantic connection, well he didn't think so, more of a understanding.
"Before we talk I think we should go back to the others." He said pointing in the general direction of where everyone else was. When they got back to the table together all the girls turned their heads to look at them. All of them finished off dinner.
Jessica and Sophie noticed that The Doctor and Melissa hadn't spoken much since they'd returned. It wasn't a angry silence but more of a 'we'll finish this off later...' silence. They glanced at each other a few times during that time thought. All of the girls knew there was something going on, they all prosumed it was something secretive and romantic. None of them asked what it was, they were too well manned to.
The Doctor offered to help them clean up, they all said that it was no problem. Melissa was the last to come out of the kitchen, the others were watching TV. The Doctor stood up from his chair not knowing what to do or say. Reply Edit . Report Abuse . Ban User . Delete Post .«Jan 16th 2010, 10:35am #42

He didn't want to sound weird and say bedroom but he didn't want to go outside. "Uh your room? I won't try anything don't worry." He said laughing. He followed her, they passed the girls they didn't seem interested in what The Doctor and Melissa were up to. She opened the door and he peered in. She had a very neat room, a load of books and a big wardrobe and other lovely little things. They sat on her bed, that was a little awkward.
"Well uh it's a long story just so you know." He informed her. After thinking about it he didn't know whether he should actually do it, but he didn't want to go at the last minute.
(I'm not sure whether The Doctor should tell Melissa about the whole time travelling thing before moving on to telling her about the assistants or after. What do you think should be best?) Reply Edit . Report Abuse . Ban User . Delete Post .«Jan 16th 2010, 11:15am #44

ArwenMUC Melissa gave him a long look. "If I thought that you were the type of guy who would try something, I wouldn't have invited you in here." She looked at him again, seriously, yet she smiled. "I don't mind long stories. I want to help you, and if that means you have to go into a story, that's fine with me. Take all the time you need." (hmmm.....I think it would make sense if he told her a little background as to who and what he is....and what he does....before talking about the companions.... But then.....it might be interesting if he told her about the companions first.....I'll leave it up to you. You're the Doctor ) Reply Edit . Report Abuse . Ban User . realtimelord (I'll go for the time travelling option ) He took in a deep breath. "You're a very smart girl so you might not believe me. The thing is I travel the Universe in a time machine. I'm an alien from the planet Gallifrey and I often travel around with friends. It's dangerous and I have lost them or they have left me. It's been hard for me to keep going without the help of them and remembering them is so difficult for me to do without getting upset. I know it's hard for you to believe me, you don't know me that well and you only met me today." He said and then closed his eyes wincing. She was just sitting there, he knew it was a lot to take but he hoped she would understand. Having a complete stranger tell you that they are an alien whilst in your bedroom, well that must be difficult to take in. She was looking at him trying to establish what on Earth was going on, her mouth was wipe open. "Hey, don't wanna catch a fly." He said half laughing and shut her mouth. He sighed. 'There's no way she's going to believe me' He thought to himself. Reply Edit . Report Abuse . Ban User . Delete Post .«Jan 16th 2010, 12:41pm #46

Of all the things that the Doctor could have said, this was the last thing she had expected him to say.
"An alien?"
She looked at him for a while, and had studied him long enough to establish that he really had believed what he just said, true or not. But at the same time, he didn't act like someone who was crazy...so....that meant.....he was telling the truth?
After an uncomfortable pause she began to speak, "An alien, huh? I completely did not expect that. If you're an alien, then why do you look human? I don't mean to offend you, but do most aliens look like humans? I didn't even know that aliens were real. So you travel in a time machine? I suppose that would explain your reactions when we were talking about the past. I thought there was something unusual about how you were speaking. I'm finding it difficult to believe you....but I want to."
"You said you're from a planet called Gallifrey. Where is that? If you're from another planet, then I assume that your time machine can travel to other planets too.....umm.....how and why did you end up on Earth?"
"I'm sorry that you've lost your friends. I'm guessing that that's what was making you so upset earlier......want to talk more about that?"
She was not one to judge someone. She still wasn't entirely sure he was telling the truth, or was sane. However, she wanted to help him. She took in what she said, and offered her support. Reply Edit . Report Abuse . Ban User . Delete Post .«Jan 16th 2010, 12:52pm #47
