"So now you know he's an alien....and I'm glad that it doesn't bother you. He's really nice, and I honestly wouldn't have known he was an alien if he hadn't told me. He looks like he's human....so it's okay with you if something happens between us -- if we start dating or something?" Melissa asked her mother.

Samantha started laughing, "If he's not...then we just overheard something and took it out of context. It wouldn't surprise me if he's not one. He looks human."

This is when The Doctor decided to cut in.
"Ya know, it's not nice to eavesdrops. Then again I was too. If you want to ask me anything about me being what I'm then go ahead." He grinned.
"It may come as quite a shock...I mean why wouldn't it? I'm sorry if it seems I was hiding this from you, it just so happens that everyone knew before you guys. Oh and sorry for calling you children. It must have seemed quite insulting. I admire you though, listening in and I didn't even notice notice until I was listening in on you...that takes skill. That's not something I tell everyone." He told them crouching down next to them.

Mark smiled. He liked this man, although he called them children he did respect them. He even admired then, that wasn't something adult usually tell them. He seemed like a fun guy and Mark especially liked that wasn't angry at them and didn't decide to be all hypocritical on them.
He let Samantha ask The Doctor something first.

Samantha took a good look at the Doctor, shocked that he had overheard the whole thing.
"Um...so are you alien -- someone from space?"
She liked him too, but she didn't want to sound stupid asking if he were an alien.

"You wanna go back to everyone?" She asked.

The Doctor listened to the question.
"Yes, that's right. I'm an alien from space." He smiled at the way she said the question.

"Uh so you're guy right? Cos I mean I dunno whether the whole male and female thing applies to aliens." Mark asked.
He thought he sounded silly for asking a question like that.

"You're the first person to ask me that. It's a good question though. Anyway, yes I am a man. The gender thing applies to aliens too." He smiled. He liked that they were shocked and wanted to know more. He liked the gender question, it was a good thing to know. Supposing that gender didn't apply then it may insult aliens if you called them a boy/girl/man/woman etc.

Melissa brightened at the question of whether or not she wanted to go back in with everyone else.
"Yes, I definitely would."

Samantha stared at him and smiled.
"Well....can aliens and humans fall in love, get married, and have children together?"
She was relieved to hear that he was a male.

They both walked back into the room to find The Doctor making conversation with Mark and Samantha. She went and sat next to Josh and watched them.

The Doctor blinked and was taken aback.
"Uh...well...yes. I mean...it's not illegal...I don't think." He answered. As soon as he answered Melissa went to sit down with them.
"Why?" He asked blushing slightly.

Mark knew exactly why and The Doctor did too. He smiled at the response. He really did care for her, he was surprised by the question there was something that told him it didn't both him either.

Melissa, completely clueless as to what they were talking about decided that she would just sit by the Doctor and try to see if she could figure it out.
"Whatever it was, it made him blush," she thought to herself.
_____ Samantha didn't feel comfortable continuing with the conversation with Melissa there, but she did want to answer the Doctor's question.
"Because I don't want anyone to get hurt."

Josh hadn't been paying attention to the conversation, and he didn't really know what was going on. He looked to his wife, and then back at everyone.
He chose to address the Doctor. "So then, I suppose that you will taking Melissa with you traveling...."
Josh looked for confirmation.

The Doctor thought for a second not understanding. Then he remembered all the times Melissa got hurt because of men.
"Ohhh, I see." He looked at Melissa.
He couldn't promise she wouldn't get hurt but he would try his best to make sure she didn't.
The Doctor then heard Josh say something and it light up his face.
"Of course." He said sweetly.

'Traveling?' Mark thought a little confused.
Then he remembered that The Doctor had said that he travelled. So that was true. Mark wondered where they would go.
"Ohhh so you actually do travel?" He asked interested.

The Doctor looked at Mark.
"Hm? YES. I do travel, in time and space in fact." He told them sounding impressive.

Melissa looked to the Doctor, her siblings, and her parents.
That was a completely unexpected question posed by her father.
She smiled at the thought of her parents being so calm with the idea of her traveling with the Doctor.
Mel looked to him, excited.
"Where are you going to take me?"

Josh smiled back, "Just as long as you keep your promises to me....and as long as you two come back to visit every once in a while."

The Doctor looked at her and grinned.
"Everywhere and anywhere." He answered.
He then looked at Josh again.
"Don't you worry." He said and did a little salute with two fingers.
"Yep, I can travel anywhere in space and time." He answered. "Thing is I can't get involved in big historical events." He told them.
He looked sad for a second and peered over at Josh and Michelle.
"That means I can't bring them back." He was of course referring to Jed and his family.

Mark smiled at the possibility of going anywhere in space and time. He thought it'd be rather fun if he tagged along, then again he might get in the way and he was probably too young as well.
He didn't quite understand the whole "That means I can't bring them back." thing The Doctor had said but he didn't want to ask in case they all got upset.

Melissa was confused by what he meant when he said that he "couldn't bring them back."
She looked at him again in anticipation of where he might suggest that they go. It sounded like it was more than just Earth -- they could see things and travel on other planets as well.

Samantha looked at him...still unable to believe that he was an alien. She was confused by his comment about not bringing people back as well.

Mark didn't want them to leave but he knew they wanted to get started on all that travelling.
"Well hope you guys have fun. It sounds amazing...wish I could go." He said laughing.

"Well you're a bit young. Besides you'll miss your band." The Doctor said ruffling the boys hair.

Melissa had to laugh at the Doctor's reactions. This wasn't a mean laugh, but rather one that showed that she really enjoyed him and what he did.
She looked to him with a smile and replied, "Yes! I can't wait!!"
To her brother she said, "Don't worry...we'll be back. Maybe you can come some day...when you're older."

Josh smiled, glad that they were happy together and that she would get to travel. Even though Melissa was still human, he knew that that was what she was meant to do.

He stood up and shook everyones hand.
"Take care and we'll be back visiting." He told them.
When The Doctor go to shake Mark's hand
"Good man, look after all of them. I'm depending on you." The Doctor whispered smiling.

Mark nodded. It was nice to know that The Doctor was taking him up on being the man of the house.

The Doctor got to Michelle.
"Hope everything goes well. The FOIL method, that's my favourite. Simple to remember and quite effective." He told her.
He then went over to Josh.
"It can be a bit stressful working with the CIA and all that. I worked with UNIT for a while, not doing that again. But you just hang on in there." He said.
He shook Samantha's hand.
"You be good now." He laughed. "I haven't heard a lot about you but you're quite creative. I want to see something creative going on when I come back." He grinned.
He went over to Melissa. He was about to shake her hand.
"Oh wait. You're coming with me." He laughed.

Josh smiled at the Doctor and at Melissa.
The Doctor truly was kind and considerate, and his comment regarding the CIA and UNIT was well thought out. It was nice to be talking with a Time Lord again, and he accepted the encouragement from the Doctor.

Samantha just blushed. "So you've heard about me from my sister...."

Melissa went over to her parents and hugged them. "I'll miss you, but I'll be back."
She then hugged Mark and Samantha. By the time she got to them, she was unable to say anything -- she was crying.
Although she really wanted to be traveling with the Doctor, she was going to miss her family.
It was then that Samantha spoke up, "You have the high school graduation present?"
Melissa nodded. Samantha knew that Melissa had carried it around with her because it was something very unique that her family had given her. Samantha, though, did not know the significance of it. She just thought that her parents had picked up something cool at an antique store, just as Melissa had thought.
Melissa then turned back to the Doctor and whispered, "I'm ready to go whenever you are."
She laughed at his behavior of almost shaking her hand -- but then saying, "Oh wait. You're coming with me."
