"Yeah." Michelle said.
She walked in and Josh followed her, the expression on both The Doctor and Melissa was a mixture of relief and happiness.

"Thanks." He said going shy and looking down.
He knew it was very early, he'd only known her for a few days but he didn't care. Travelling with her will be amazing, it would be different but better.
He saw Michelle and Josh walk in. He smiled at them and waved.

Mark saw that his parents had come in and he thought it might get even better.

Josh smiled at the Doctor and Melissa.
He assumed that they had talked a little.

Melissa looked over at him, noticing that he was looking shy.
She didn't want him feeling uncomfortable.
She thought a minute before whispering, "What did you and my dad talk about?"

Samantha looked at them. She guessed that her parents had talked to each other about John and Melissa.

The Doctor thought for a second going through the whole conversation in his head.
"Oh uh he showed me pictures of Jed and he looked exactly like the one I knew. Your parents knew he was an alien, so I told them about me." He informed her.
"Also they know that you know about me being...alien." He whispered.
"Your dad told me about you. Uh I mean we didn't talk about you in a bad way or anything." He said.

Mark didn't catch what John whispered to Melissa about, that made him a little disappointed.
He didn't however catch the word 'alien'. Mark tried to fathom what he meant by using that particular word.

Melissa whispered back, "Jed was an alien?? And you told my dad that you were an alien....what did he say?"
She was starting to get a little nervous about what her parents would do when they found out that they were interested in each other.
"So my dad knows that I know that you're an alien, and he.....what did he say to that? If my mother could tell that we liked each other, my dad probably could too....."
Since she had never dated before, she didn't know how her parents would react.
It was a complete shock to her to find out that one of their friends was an alien.
"I suppose that's why they never talked about Jed much -- if he was from another planet..."

Samantha also heard the word alien.
"Alien...as in from another country?" she whispered to her brother.

"Well he didn't act too surprised. He was surprised that I was but not that there was such thing." He told her.
"He quite fine with the fact I was. In fact he sounded quite relieved." He said thinking.
"Oh he did." He smiled.
"Yeah, I mean it makes perfect sense. But since you didn't exactly know I guess your brother and sister don't either." It was just a presumption on The Doctor's part but it would certainly make sense.

Mark was really confused now.
"I-I don't think s-so." He said worriedly.
What did this mean? John an alien? The Doctor? Jed an alien too? All this made no sense to Mark.

After hearing the Doctor explain all that, Melissa looked relieved as well.
"I'm glad that my dad didn't seem to mind. You said that he almost sounded relieved? That's odd, but I'm glad that he's fine with it. If my parents were good friends with Jed, knew he was an alien, and yet they became close friends with him, then it's no surprise that they don't mind that you are."
She smiled at him. "I guess there is nothing to worry about."
Melissa smiled in agreement, "Yeah, I think you're right. I don't think that Mark and Samantha know about Jed being an alien either."
(Since the Doctor didn't tell her that Jed was a Time Lord, Melissa doesn't know Jed's species.)

Samantha stared at him. "You mean an outer space kind of alien? But John looks human! He can't be an alien."

"I've learnt more about you in such a small amount of time than anyone else. That's quite an achievement considering about where I've been and how old I am." He told her smiling.
"Do you think we should tell the children?" The Doctor asked looking over at them.

Mark heard what John, or as Melissa referred to him as The Doctor, would say to them and whether he would tell them everything.
Mark wasn't angry that John had not told them about this before but more about the fact he called them both 'children'. Mark was very strict about what he would be called at what age. He always thought when he turned 13 he should be referred to as a teenager, and then Samantha. She was even older than Mark, so why was she called 'child' when she was 16.
Still, Mark tried not to make it bother him.

Melissa smiled at his comment. "Well, there's still a lot more to learn about me, which I think is wonderful about friendships. There is always a deeper level that we can learn about another person...even when we think we know them well."
She then frowned at his reference to her brother and sister as "children." She knew that neither of them would like that.
Mel whispered to him, "They are teenagers -- I wouldn't call them children around them. Anyway, I don't know...if you want to tell them about you being a Time Lord, that would be your choice. I think maybe I should talk to my mom."
She then gently got up and approached her mother. "Can I talk to you?"

Samantha too was upset that the Doctor had referred to her as a child. After all, she was 15!
However, she was too happy for Melissa to really let it bother her.

"Ahh I see. I won't, sometimes I forget these things. You all look that same to me." He laughed.
"Yeah talking to your mother would be a good choice." He agreed with her.

"Aww that's brilliant. I'm happy for you. To be honest when I went in to see you two sitting down, you were smiling at each other." She said smiling.

"Hmmm, I wanna ask him but I don't want him to know about us listening in on his conversations...if he's a he. Do you think gender applies to aliens too?" Mark wondered.
He couldn't really believe he was taking all this alien business on board so easily but he was. There was something trustworthy about John or whoever he was, something about him.

Samantha looked at her brother, "John better be a he....because if he's not, then Melissa is going to get hurt all over again. It's hard to believe that she likes an alien, and he likes her back. I wonder whether or not all aliens are the same."

"He recognised Jed apparently and knew he was an alien too...did you know that?" She asked...perhaps she'd said too much.

"Well whatever he is, I don't want him hurting Melissa like every other useless boy that's been in her life." Mark was very passionate about this and would try and help Melissa even if he was younger.
"I don't think aliens would be the same. I mean considering he's an alien that means to him we must be aliens too. Although we may look alike I don't think all aliens would." He said. He wanted to know an answer to that question properly though. It was an interesting though all aliens looking the same but then again it was only a thought. He'd have to ask him when he got the chance.

Melissa looked slightly relieved that her parents both knew that the Doctor was an alien.
"Yes, that's right. His name is the Doctor. He told me that he might know of the Jed guy and that he needed to see his picture for sure. That's why he asked to see it. I guess that dad showed it to him while they were talking. The Doctor just told me that Jed was an alien too, and that he knew him. I didn't know that you two knew aliens. If I had, then he wouldn't have needed to call himself John Smith.
"I met the Doctor on campus -- he landed his ship there -- and we got to talking. I invited him over to the apartment to eat with my friends. Then we decided to come here...."

Samantha agreed, "Maybe.....I guess we'll just have to ask him. Maybe he's been listening to our conversation and knows that we want to ask him all this."

She didn't really think it would have been as easy as telling her. Although it wouldn't have been because then they may have had to explain the fact she was an alien too. Still she hadn't done yet. She tried not to let it both her too much.

The Doctor had been sitting there listening to their conversation. He didn't want to intervene until the right time. He just pretended that he was thinking about things, of course he was thinking about things but they didn't matter too much at that moment.
