"All out war, with our enemy in the Aresian system, led by their mastermind, Colonel Henry Kradston. We have been defending against their advances for near to a decade now. The attacks increased quite recently when we moved to retrieve officers stolen from their posts. We made a peace agreement, but they tried to swindle us," the guard said. He would see what this man would say before deciding on a course of action.

When the guards came in, Donna raised an eyebrow and stood up straight.
"Well it's about time. Honestly-" And then they were dragging her back to the center of the room. She fought them, but they were much stronger then her and forced her into the chair.
"W ho do you think I am?" she seethed. "A spy? I'm just a traveler."

"So you say," the guard retorted as cuffed her wrists and ankles to the chair before leaving again, all except the one, who was armed and wen to inspect the camera. He was making sure she didn't try to do anything to it. He was grumbling to himself about sneaky Aresian spies and how much f a pain they were.

"Yeah so I say," Donna said loudly. "Why would I say any different? It's true! Do I look like a flippin' spy? Do I look like I'm even from this planet?"
But he left, not without receiving a few kicks from her legs as she fought against getting them cuffed. The other man went to inspect the camera. She wished she could have done something to the camera, but it had been too far up and she had nothing to hit it with.
She heard him grumbling, and caught a few quiet words.
"Aresian? Who are they?"

The guard whipped his head around to face her. "Aresians? Who are they? You're joking." He stepped down ans approached her, but kept a fair enough distance from her, just in case. "Aresians are the ones who send their spies, spies who always seem to know how to get past our detection, until the Captain came along."

The Doctor frowned, "But what are you fighting about? How did this war begin?"
He wanted to understand what was exactly going on in this war. Any clues would be useful. "And who is this Kradston?"

"As all wars, it started with a misunderstanding. Two Aresian students on an exchange program died while breaking into a dangerous facility. The Aresians claimed it an act of maliciousness and sought for restitution violently. They're very hot-headed, you see," the guard said. He sat on the table. "Kradston is the brightest mind of the history of Aresian civilization, ruthless tactician, would sacrifice his entire race to win."

"Aresians? Who are they? You're joking."
"Like I said," she told him. "I'm not from here."
"Aresians are the ones who send their spies, spies who always seem to know how to get past our detection, until the Captain came along."
The Captain...must be who we met upstairs. Donna thought quickly.
"Why do they send spies?" she asked. "Are you in a war or something?" She had guessed as much, but wanted to hear it confirmed.

"Of course. You really must not be from anywhere around here, everyone's heard about the war between us and the Aresians," the guard said. "Been going on for nearly a decade now. No one dares come around here for fear of becoming collateral damage."

Donna showed brief surprise at the longevity of the war.
"No one dares come around here for fear of becoming collateral damage."
Her eyes involuntarily slipped down to the guard's gun and then back up. "I can understand that." she sighed inwardly. The Tardis must have messed up somehow...or else the Doctor had a death wish. "What started it all?" she asked softly.

The Doctor frowned upon hearing the information. "What steps have been taken diplomatically?" he asked, curious for this man's response. He wasn't entirely sure that he could trust this man's account, but he had nothing else to go by. If he was telling the truth, then certainly some step to peace could be made.

The guard in the Doctor's room sighed. "We offered what we could. We offered damages, but they refused. They also refused to help pay for the damage the boys had caused to the facility."
*** The guard in Donna's room saw the way she had tensed up a little and glanced at his gun. He put a hand protectively on it. "Two kids were fooling around where they weren't supposed to and the Aresians were too proud to reach an agreement."

The Doctor nodded, "I see....so what sort of war is this?"
He hated wars -- his daughter that Donna had named for him, Jenny, had been "born" in this kind of environment. She had also died in the midst of the war, as he had no way of knowing that she had survived. It was war that had brought about the Daleks, in a way. Perhaps they wouldn't even exist if there had been no war on their home planet. It seemed that this planet was headed in the same direction as Skaro and Jenny's planet.
"What weapons are both sides using? How are you financing this war?"

As soon as the Doctor started asking those kinds of questions, the guard stood firm, standing up from the table. "I said before, this is all out war. No citizen is safe, and neither are those just passing through. What you ask is classified and unwarranted. You and your colleague will be put on trial for espionage." With that he headed toward the door.

The Doctor, very angry, stood up. "What??! You can't do that -- how is that information classified? You just said that your war was common knowledge. If that is true, then certainly you can tell me what weapons you are using against each other. Espionage?"
He sighed in frustration. Maybe this guard would go away and he could use his sonic. "If they are holding me for something as serious as espionage, then they must be watching me....but how and where?" He'd have to wait for the guard to leave before he began to seriously search the room. Whatever piece of equipment they were using, his screwdriver should be able to disrupt it. I'll have to be quick, though." he thought to himself.
