Sparks flew from the console of the Immortality Gate, and Saflan staggered under the impact of six bullets in rapid succession against his chest, then fell to the ground. The armorcloth he habitually wore had stopped the slugs from penetrating, but he was sure that at least one rib had cracked.
Irkk watched the empty space the Professor had stood in, silent. Finally, he toggled a switch inside his travel machine. "Cho-vek."
"Yes, cap-tain?"
"Resume the bom-bard-ment."
Irkk's optic swiveled down to stare at Saflan. "Are you plan-ning to lie there much longer?"
Saflan coughed and sat up, painfully. "No, Cap'n."
"Good. We have much to do."
From the manor, the Professor could see an aurora display over London.
No, it was sheet lightning.
No, no it wasn't. Nothing so tame. The atmosphere burned as titanic sheets of indescribable fury lanced into the city's heart. Where the rays touched, nothing material survived - not flesh, no concrete, not steel, not stone. It sublimed away into steam and ash. Fires raged uncontrollably through nearby city blocks as the air itself converted to plasma on the fringes of the beam. The thunder of tortured, displaced air roared like a god enraged.
Silently, the Vrykon raced towards the heart of the disaster on gravatic drives.

The professor ran to the room, with all of the alien technology. He grabbed a sontaran rocket launcher, a perception filter, and finally, the most powerful grenade there was in the eastern universe. It was an almost suicidal move to even think about using this grenade, but he had to do this. He then ran to the entrance to the top of the manor, and he kicked the hatch open.
The professor climbed up the ladder, the grenade between his teeth, and the rocket launcher on his shoulder. He put the grenade down, and aimed the rocket launcher at where the Irkk's ship was. He used the automatic lock on system to lock on, and yelled "TIME FOR THE SONTARANS TO BE USEFUL!" He then fired the rocket launcher, as the rocket went straight for the ship.

"In-com-ing," announced Chovek, calmly. Equally calmly, he engaged the countermeasures, launching a decoy with an ECM signature comparable to the Vrykon.
Nothing.
A dumb missile, Chovek decided. "Brace for im-pact!"
He engaged different countermeasures, and twin short-range antimissile guns opened up. At less than ten meters, a destructive beam intersected the Sontaran grenade.
Of course, as Chovek well knew, Sontaran rocket grenades had an effective kill radius of greater than ten meters.
Incandescent fury expanded at almost the speed of light. The screens of the Vrykon stopped the heat and radiation cold, but like all ray screens were futile against a concussive shockwave. The impact flipped the assault carrier end over end.
The pilot, Uuls, fought for control. She was one of the finest pilots the renegade faction had ever produced and, had the Vrykon been more than 20 meters above the ground, she might have been able to regain control in time.
Instead, the prow of the ship dug into the pavement of the M25. It bounced, flipped upside down, and slid. There was enough kinetic energy to drive the Vrykon forward, gouging up nearly 20 meters of road and tossing automobiles like toys before coming to a rest.
Inside, hanging from docking ports like malevolent stalagtites, Uuls and Chovek looked at each other.

The professor gritted his teeth, and reloaded the rocket launcher, due to the fact he had also brought up four more rockets. He put all four in, and he fired again at the ship. After four seconds, he fired again. He repeatedthis, planning to try and destroy Irkk.

"Cho-vek?" Irkk called over intraship communications, "Uuls? Status re-port."
It had taken nearly a minute to right his travel machine, and Irkk was in a foul mood. The Immortality Gate hung from the deck of the Vrykon like an ungainly stalactite, the bits that hadn't fallen off anyway, and his non-Dalek crew were scattered around like rag dolls.
Saflan, with his high-gravity physiology, was the first of them to recover. He dragged himself to his feet, moving with an exaggerated care that indicated broken bones, and began roaring and cursing at the other pirates. "On yer feet, you [UNPRINTABLE] dogs!"
There was a muffled whump as an emergency hatch blew out, and a crimson and emerald travel machine hurtled by on full gravatics.
"Cho-vek...?" Irkk called.
"No time, cap-tain!" Chovek called back, "We have a sit-u-ation!"
Inside the travel machine, Irkk gave the Dalek equivalent of a shrug. He'd brought Chovek into his crew, despite his unhealthy obsession with weapons collecting and his extremely aggressive (even for a Dalek) personality, because he trusted his judgement. He wasn't going to second guess him now.
"Right, then," he said. "Uuls? Status re-port?"
Chovek emerged from the hatch a meter above the newly-dug trench in the M25, all the sensors of this travel machine active. He knew he wasn't as well-rounded as the other Daleks, with their interests in science and mathematics and whatnot on top of the military pursuits of the species. But he knew combat, and he knew that if he had been the one trying to take the Vrykon out, he wouldn't have stopped with a single missile.
It was reasonable to assume that this remaining Time Lord would have the same attitude.
Active and passive sensors pinged, looking for incoming fire. Where was it...? Where was it....? Ah! There! A salvo of four rocket-propelled grenades - he recognized them as Sontaran J27-H "Earthshaker" rounds - fired with what appeared to be a 4-second cycle time between shots. Time on target was 27, 31, 35, and 39 seconds.
Chovek's lipless gash of a mouth twisted in something like pleasure as he brought his fusion ram up. Two brief flashes of hellish light illuminated the M25 and plasma lanced upwards from his travel machine, catching the first and third grenade. They exploded with a chemical fury that rivaled that of atomics, and the explosions killed the other two grenades as well.
"Sit-u-ation a-ver-ted," Chovek reported to Irkk. "What was it you need-ed?"
