Jack raised one eyebrow, he had known a few guys in his time that could stand water under freezing but not for more than ten minutes and while the water in the bay wasn't nearly that cold he had been in for much longer so he had to be getting cold. Jack stood up and put his hand out before asking, "Need some help?"

"If you could just toss my gloves in, that would be great," Bryan said. He nodded to the gloves by Jack's feet. He'd been able to keep the act up this long. He wasn't about to give it up just to get out of the water. He had his excuses all line up, ready to use.

"I'd love to show you around New Zealand! It's very lovely. Well, unless you cross into a sheep's bad side." He shook his head and sighed. "I think it may be because I was wearing wool. Perhaps it sensed its lost brethern," Rio mused aloud.
Look down at the Earth from above. Rio smiled, reminded again of the countless times he had stared into the sky and wondered if there was something more out there. His father had always taught him that it was selfish to think that out of the billions of planets that not one would even have an amoeba on it. Rio wanted to think bigger. Wanted to think of them having their own civilization.
Well, his father had taught him that because Rio was half-alien, but he had never had the courage to tell Rio. Ignorance was safety. Although Karlaithya was a popular alien tourist destination, most people couldn't pick one out of a crowd against humans. Rio did look like one - pale skin and bright green eyes - but it could easily be passed off as just a human trait. The perfect disguise was one where the hidden didn't know.
"Other species?" Of course he believed in other species. He nodded and smiled at the girl. "I'd like to meet someone of a different species as well."

"Well, unless you cross into a sheep's bad side. I think it may be because I was wearing wool. Perhaps it sensed its lost brethern,"
She gave and exaggerated shiver, "I hear angry sheep can be absolutely terrifying. One creature I never want to meet in person." She said with a laugh. She had encountered quite a few creatures that weren't so happy to meet her and usually wanted her off their land. She had fought all sorts but never once had she encountered an angry sheep, the very thought made her smile.
"Other species? I'd like to meet someone of a different species as well."
She was relieved, occasionally she would meet the sort of person who thought that anything non human should be killed. She liked to avoid those kinds. For one brief second her defences crumbled, the walls she had spent years building up crumbled and everything seemed to shudder. she felt the cold ice spread over her hands in a thin layer but almost as soon as it had started she stopped it. the ice instantly melted and her walls reappeared. She wasn't sure what was happening to her. This had never happened before. Her walls had never failed even when people were trying to force them selves into her mind. Something was going on something she didn't like. Since she had met Rio it was like there was something different in the air and she didn't like it so she did the only thing she could think of. In one swift movement she was on her feet, her bag clutched securely in her hands. She opened her mouth to say something but no noise came so she simply turned and ran.

Jack raised one eyebrow, "Your going to put your gloves on in the water. won't they get wet and defeat the purpose of even having them in the first place?" There was something suspicious about this guy, something that just didn't seem right.

Bryan shook his head. "You don't know their purpose. I have this thing about people touching my palms." He smirked a little. "Makes dating a bit difficult because it's hard to find a girl that isn't insistent on holding hands, but it's just how I am."

His eyebrow quirked as he thought he saw ice envelope her hand. As quickly as he had seen it the ice disappeared. He dismissed as his imagination until he saw her panicked features. "That was pretty cool." He murmured quietly, watching her leap up. Rio stared at her curiously as she dashed off.
He stood up languidly and debated on following her or not. Rio decided he would, if only because she had not properly left. What kind of person just ran right off without even showing him the way out of the woods? "Nieve! Come back!" The Frenchman stopped running, huffing at the fact that his first friend had just up and left him.
Rio was used to befriending people and leaving them. It stung when it was the other way around. "I'm not going to hurt you," He called after her with a defeated tone in his voice. He knew the way back (he wasn't that directionally challenged) but it wasn't such a nice feeling that she had left him. "Why would I hurt you when I said I wanted to meet someone... alieny?"
Was that the politically correct word for alien? What else would they be called? 'Person from the great beyond'? 'Space invader'? But what if she was human? Just human with a cool... supernatural dealio going on with her hands?

She heard him yelling behind her but she didn't want to stop, the last person who had known her secret had told Torchwood and because of that she was locked up in Torchwood for a very long time. She never wanted to go back there. She stopped suddenly as common sense caught up to her and she thought rationally about it. She hadn't known Rio that long but he didn't seem like that sort of person. She turned and began moving slowly back to where she could see him. She stepped out of the trees in front of him...

She shrugged, Yeah I guess it wasn't really my business." He held the gloves out to Bryan.

Bryan frowned, staring at the gloves, then quickly reached up and snatched them. The webs between his fingers flashing in the light the second. He hoped that Jack wouldn't notice but figured he would. He quickly put them on his hands while they were underwater just in case, stretching them back again, holding back the slightest grimace. It was getting more and more difficult every time. He put his hands on the dock and pushed himself back out.

He raised his eyebrows as she stepped in front of him. "Hello." Rio smiled lazily and leaned against a tree. He was trying to word his next question suavely. Something that wouldn't offend the girl. "What are you?" He tilted his head curiously. He knew that the wording hadn't come out as suave as he had hoped. "I don't know how to phrase that question differently..."

After he had pulled himself out Jack decided to comment on the webbed fingers he had seen, "So, what kind of alien are you? Webbed fingers would suggest a water dwelling species like those found on Cylipse, Roteern,.." he trailed off and looked at him expectantly, "So where you from, I doubt you could surprise me."He added with a chuckle.

*It's fine, not that lame*
She looked uncertainly at him questioning herself about whether or not she should trust him.
"What are you? I don't know how to phrase that question differently..." he asked her. After a few seconds of hesitation she decided to be completely honest with him, "I don't really know what I am." She flopped down onto the grass, "There's never really been anyone who could tell me although a lot of people have tried to figure it out."

Bryan sighed. "Yeah, I'm half Kriterian. From Kyrilia. But I've been on Earth since I was 6." He grabbed his towel as he stood up.

Seeing her hesitance, Rio glanced down at his shoes. He was trying to avoid eye contact in case it'd make her more comfortable. She was probably used to being scrutinizingly observed, but that didn't mean that he had to be obnoxious and stare her closely. "I can't hurt you." That was a lie. Rio knew he could hurt her if he was determined enough, but there was quite a large difference between could and would.
"I don't really know what I am..."
He sat down across from her, leaning on a tree. He put his arms on his stomach and leaned back, closing his eyes as he listened to her. When she was through explaining, he opened one eye to look at her and he shrugged. "I can tell you what you are," He grinned. "You're my friend." He closed his eyes again, humming a song his father had taught him.
"I can't promise you answers as to whom you are." He was speaking as though Nieve was going to remain friends with him. "But I can promise that if you stick with me, I'm not gonna let anyone hurt you without a hell of a fight."
