(Mind if I stick Breck in here? And by the way, Ten, how did you just pluck my birthday (April 4) as the date? Heh heh!)
Breck hadn't given much thought to whatever had flown over very close to her head as she jogged around the park paths. At first she had just thought it was a wayward pigeon that had skimmed over the top of her head but when it had paused and hovered (hovered yet!!!) in front of her she had stopped to stare at the thing. It couldn't be just a toy, as it just hung there, a silver smooth orb, no antennae or even blinking lights. Then suddenly a sharp blade-like instrument merged out of the metal surface and it zoomed back at her.
For a moment she stood frozen in disbelief but when the object had zoomed past, slicing her arm she panicked and ran. She raced as fast as she could but the orb simply kept pace with her, dipping in to slice her arms and legs, then she felt burning sensations on her back. Whatever this thing was it intended to kill her, bit by bit!
"Help!" she screamed. "Help me!!"
She stumbled and fell, getting yet more gashes on her hands as she tried to push it away. It could have been her imagination but she could almost hear laughter emitting from it. Laughter in a chilling child's voice.
Breck regained her feet and tried to make her way to the only people she could see, an elderly man and a younger one sitting on a park bench. Even though she knew New Yorkers were known for not wanting to get involved in others' businesses she hoped that just this once they would. "Help! Oh God HELP ME!!" she screamed as she stumbled again.

(OOC: Worst. Birthday. Ever. ;D But yeah, feel free to join in, Breck. I hadn't really planned to do much more with that character, so you're welcome to her.)
The Doctor barely rolled away as the orb lunged at him again. He was getting tired, and it was slowing him down. Sooner or later, he was going to make a mistake.
Time to try something.
Removing his cloak, he struggled to his feet. Waving it like a muleta, he called "Well? Come on, then!"
The orb tittered, high and mad. "You're fun!" it shrieked.

(LOL yep! Happy birthday, something wants to kill you!)
Breck caught her breath as the elderly man rushed up to engage that strange object. As she watched in horror her mind tried to make sense of the attack and failed miserable to come up with any explanation. Still she couldn't just stand there and allow a stranger ?(and an old man at that!) to be shredded up in her place. She looked around but all she could find as a weapon was a fallen tree branch. 'Oh well, better than nothing!' she thought as she grasped it. When she straightened up she could hardly believe what she was seeing; the old man was now playing the role of a bullfighter!
"What, are you nuts or something?" she shouted. "RUN!!"

As Tyler was looking within the trees, a glint of metal caught his eye, just reflecting the sun in the proper way for him to notice it. Drawing nearer to it, he pushed aside the branches. Now would he need to climb this tree? He hoped not.
At the sound of a female's voice telling someone to run, Tyler took his eyes off of the spot he had seen in the trees. He turned to see a female yelling at someone to run. A second glance told him that it was the old man that had ordered him to try to find help.
Tyler, torn between whether or not he should investigate the metal further, or try to help this man again, stood there, waiting and watching to see what would happen next.

The Doctor twisted sideways, wrapping his cloak over the orb as he did so.
"What, are you nuts or something?" the injured girl shouted as she staggered to her feet, clutching a tree branch like a club. "RUN!!"
"My dear," the Doctor gasped out, "that is precisely what I am attempting to allow you to do."
There was a tearing sound, and fragments of cloth flew about. The orb hovered nearby, gently bobbing back and forth. "Eenie," it giggled as it drifted left and right, "meenie, miney... MOE!"
It launched into motion again.

Tyler decided that a climb up the tree was in order, as the glint seemed to be high up in the branches. Had a child or mean person gotten up there and then enjoyed watching people get hurt from his/her vantage point?
Tyler didn't know for certain, but he began the climb up, only momentarily looking to see what the old man was doing first. A cloth had been placed over the orb, but now it was in pieces. Had it actually said, "eenie, meenie, miney, moe?"

The glint of metal in the branches appeared to be a camera.
With a grunt of effort, the Doctor tackled Breck to the ground as the orb launched at her. The orb stopped short.
"You cheated!" it shrieked indignantly.
The Doctor smiled a sly smile. "No, I did not. You did."
"Nuh-uh!" was the orb's response.
"Did too," the Doctor replied with a grin. "You're just a nasty little cheater!"
"I am not!" the orb wailed.
"You are too," the Doctor shouted back, "you're a cheater, and we don't want to play with you any more!"

As Tyler's eyes focused more carefully on the glint in the trees, Tyler realized that it looked like a camera. As he climbed higher, he finally climbed up to its level. While holding onto the tree with his left hand, his right hand reached out in an attempt to grab the camera.
Tyler was now in the midst of foliage, and was thus unable to see the old man or the woman or anyone else who was on ground level.

Breck had frozen when she heard the high pitched voice come from the orb. "Wait, it talks too? What the hell IS that....."
That was all she got out before she was tackled and thrown to the ground and the orb whizzed past her head. "Umph! Why did....om my god. It tried to KILL ME!" Her confusion grew as the orb and the old man entered into what should be heard on a child's playground. Her mouth fell open again.
"Somebody please tell me what's going on..." she whimpered as she slowly edged backwards on all fours.

"I hate you!" the orb shrieked, "I hate you all! You're mean!"
Suddenly, the orb seemed to notice the tree Tyler was climbing. "You can't have that!" it shrieked even louder, and a bolt of actinic light lanced from the orb to the top of the tree. The very top exploded as the sap superheated, and the top third burst into flames.
"I hate you all!" the orb screamed with a sob. "I hate you all and I'm telling!"
With that it darted away, losing itself in the trees.
The Doctor took a deep breath. "Are you all right, my dear?" he asked Breck.
He stared at the burning, exploded tree. "I do hope that young man is all right. I can't see him through all the smoke."

((could use the Master in the thread in Three's board -- actually, we could use two Masters, if you want. Not following End of Time, you can make the John S. Master come back, and you can also use the Master that goes along with Three....up to you, of course).
As Tyler's hand touched the camera, a bolt that seemed to come out of nowhere hit the tree, causing the top third of it to explode. Tyler had only a second to notice the bolt was headed his way. Fortunately for Tyler, the limb that he was on cracked at the impact of the bolt, causing him to fall to the ground. A second later, and he probably would have died in the explosion, being burnt to a crisp.
Tyler's life was saved, although he'd had a nasty fall. Possibly a few broken bones, and a danger of being burned in a fire. The fall had rendered him unconscious.

"Somebody please tell me what's going on..." she whimpered as she slowly edged backwards on all fours.
The terror in the girl's voice penetrated the Doctor's concern for Tyler (and, if it must be admitted, his own faint self-absorption). He turned to look at her, almost as if he were seeing her injuries for the first time.
"Oh, my dear. I am so sorry." He knelt to examine her. "As to what is happening, I am afraid that I do not know. Not yet, anyway. I should very much to talk to you about your experiences, once you have been properly cared for."
"None of your injuries are life-threatening, although prompt medical assistance would of course be wise." He straightened up, one hand on his back. "If you have a such thing as a cellular phone about your person, it would be wise to - but wait. Are they in common use yet?"
In the distance, he could see a police officer running towards them. "Ah! It appears that we shall not require one after all. Will you be all right for a few moments by yourself, my dear? I must go and check on the young man that accompanied me to your aid."

Tyler continued to stay on the ground, not moving in his unconscious state.
(not much more I can do here...as he's unconscious)

(okay....I don't know what happened to Eight. Maybe her computer broke or something. She used to be on every day, and she loved this site)
