"Yes, I tried...and failed." He answered frowning.
"I'm not all with music these days but a CD of a favourite band or artist would be nice? Or maybe a gadget that involves the instrument itself?" He asked. "I have no idea what to actually get him but the type of thing to get him I'm good with." He said unhelpfully, then grinned.
'I wonder if she knows what music he likes? I hope she does.' He thought worriedly. Of course he had know idea where to go in America to get music. There was always a HMV in England that you could pop into but he didn't know if they had one.
"Do you have a HMV or something?" He asked and then thought for a second. "HMV is a shop that sells music and stuff like that by the way." He added just so she would be clear on what he was thinking.

"Yes, a CD would be a nice thing to get him. I like your ideas," she said with a smile.
"I've never heard of a HMV, but there are plenty of places that sell CD's. There are little shops along this street that sell some CD's, and there is a music store that sells CD's almost exclusively. If we wanted to go for something like contemporary Christian music, which my brother does like, we could always try the Christian bookstore. They sell a lot of the bands my brother likes. If we wanted to get him something classical, or a "gadget that involves the instrument itself," we can go to the store that sells musical instruments. If we just want to get him a CD from a more popular band that he likes, we might be able to find it in several stores. So....take your pick."
She turned to him smiling, wondering which type of store he would choose.

"Why thank you ma'am." He smiled and bowed jokingly.
"Oooh, that's a hard choice. Hm, contemporary Christian music sounds interesting. I've never heard any before." He said sounding curious. He wasn't religious at all but this definitely sounded interesting. He followed her lead, she knew where she was going after all. He stayed close to her, because he didn't want to get lost and because he liked being close to her.
"Maybe later we could go to the instrument store anyway," He said shuffling his feet. "Just to see all the instruments." He added sounding as if he'd never been shopping before, as if he was a inquisitive young boy.

Melissa turned to him and smiled. "Contemporary Christina music it will be then. You've never heard any? I'll have to let you listen to some songs then. That's mostly all I listen to -- that and classical music. I'll have to expose you to my favorite artists -- and a couple of them are actually from England...so.....that should be interesting."
She noticed that he was staying close to her, and she definitely liked that. She liked being close to him.
"Yes, we can go to the instrument store later. The instruments are always fun to look at."
It wasn't long before they reached the Christian book store. It was a fairly large store for the contents that it sold. One entire room was filled with books. Another fairly large room contained all of the music items. There were also T-shirts and other little items throughout the store.
"The music section is over here," Melissa said pointing to the room with the music in it. "We can even listen to some of the songs before deciding what CD to get," Melissa explained.

"I'll definitely have to check some of your favourite music out then." He announced.
They walked inside the store and The Doctor was very surprised. "Ooooh, it's very big." He acknowledged, his eyes grew huge as he looked around. He put his glasses on, looked at all the CD's, scanned shelves and took it all in.
His interests doubled when he saw all the t-shirts. "Oh cool, t-shirts. I love music t-shirts." He told her while still bounding around the shop.
He put a finger to his lips looking at the t-shirts. "I'm not a very religious person but I like the fact that people have a faith. I mean it must give you hope through I lot of difficult things. I like learning about religions a lot too. It give you big insight into how people think." He whispered thoughtfully.

Melissa laughed as she watched the Doctor bound around the store.
She stood by him as he looked at the T-shirts.
She smiled at him and whispered back, "It does....it gives me hope every day. I would venture to say that that maybe be the only reason I was able to hold onto hope when I was in school. I can't imagine what it would be like to go through life without faith, but I know a lot of people do. If you ever want to talk about religion, it's actually one of my favorite topics. And yes, understanding a person's religious views does help give great insight into how a particular person or group of people think."
She stopped to admire the t-shirts that the Doctor was looking at.
"If you ever would be interested in reading some Christian authors sometime, I'd be happy to point you in the direction of some good ones. As with any subject matter, but especially with religion, you sometimes have to watch the authors. There are some people that are way out there....such as the Word of Faith/Prosperity Gospel teachers. You will want to avoid those."

"Sounds interesting." He said admiring her. "It'd be nice to talk about it some time." He told her.
He looked at all the bands and artists. He skimmed through some CDs having no idea who any of the people were. "So what musicians does he like? I have no idea who any of these people are, so I don't know what he'd like the most." He said truthfully.
Realising this he looked quite confused, and slightly worried at whether she knew. Then he thought for a second. He smiled realising that after all she was his sister and knew about these things.

Melissa looked at him. He even looked cute when he was confused.
"All right...we will talk about it whenever you want to. Just let me know," she answered.
"Well, he happens to like a lot of the same artists that I do, though he also likes some of the more loud ones. "Let's see here, there is Chris Tomlin, Matt Redman, the David Crowder Band, Jars of Clay, Third Day, Delirious?, Jeff Deyo, Casting Crowns, Tree63, Tim Hughes, Newsboys, Shane & Shane, Vineyard worship CDs, Jeremy Riddle, etc. Those are some of my very favorites. In addition to those, he also really likes Audio Adrenaline, Pillar, TobyMac, P.O.D., Switchfoot, Paul Colman Trio, Point of Grace, Rebeca St. James, Reliant K, Reuben Morgan, other Hillsong artists, Sanctus Real, Stacie Orrico, Steven Curtis Chapman, T-Bone, and ZOEgirl. Any of them would be fine. Why don't you pick one? And we can listen to a few songs on it...and if you like it, we can get it."

"They have some amazing names by the way. I mean wow!" He told her truthfully. He skimmed through the CDs again. He picked out one by Jars of Clay and looked at it. They looked like a good band. 'You shouldn't judge a book by its cover...or a CD by it's cover.' Thinking to himself.
"Ok well either this or Casting Clowns, awesome names." He admired.

Melissa laughed, 'It's Casting Crowns. Did I say clowns? Anyway....Jars of Clay it is. I've seen them in concert before.....okay....." she said taking the Jars of Clay CD from him. "That's a good CD. Ready to listen?"
Melissa went to find one of the people who worked in the store. She told them that they wanted to listen to the Jars of Clay CD. The worker came in and set it all up for them to listen to.

He listened to a few songs, he looked in deep thought. He was concentrated very hard, even if it was only a few songs off an album he wanted everything to be perfect for the young boy.
After a couple of minutes of nothing said from The Doctor whilst listening carefully. He got up, showing no sign of anything. He looked straight at her, very seriously. "IT'S BRILLIANT!" He told her throwing his hands up in the air and breaking into a grin. "This is awesome, he'll definitely love it...I think. I mean I don't know him properly but I'm sure he'll love this." He informed her confidently.

Melissa smiled at him.
"All right then, that's exactly what I will get him. I'm glad you like it so well."
She went over to the shelf where the unopened copies of the CD were and picked one up.
"Did you want to look around some more, or are you ready to pay for this and go to another store?"

"Hmmm," He said thinking. "We should pay and then go to another store." He told her smiling.
They went over to the counter to pay. Melissa took out a note, he looked at it in awe. He hadn't seen dollar notes before...or at least not for a while. He realised he was still staring, when he looked up at Melissa who had a look of confussion on her face.
He cleared his throat, "sorry." He said.

Melissa wasn't exactly sure what he was staring at.
"Where do you want to go next?" she asked him.
She was thoroughly enjoying spending time with him. She knew that eventually they would need to cut their shopping trip short so that they could go to her parents house. They could then give the CD to her brother in person. It was then that she realized she hadn't yet contacted her parents to let them know that she and a ...friend...would be coming over.
"Doctor? When were we planning on going to my parents house? I should call them to let them know we'll be coming over."

He picked up the bag that had the CD. They both headed out of the shop.
"Although, you may want to decide quick because if you're phoning them up you might want to phone them up now." He told her.
"Should we go find something for me to wear?" He asked as the 'After all it is a time machine too.' Jogged his memory of how he was getting to the TARDIS.
