"Hmm kill you welll if I wanted to kill you I would not have warned the doctor about my people, anyway its always useful to have bargaining chips," he smiled a little a tyler and then looked at his watch before shaking his head and finding a place to sit down

Finally figuring out how to disengage the door in order to close it, Tyler slammed the safe shut, locking the door.
"There we go..." Tyler said in satisfaction. "All right.....well, I'm just glad that you're helping us right now....although I have to admit that I'm a little skeptical of your motives."
Turning his attention back to the Doctor, he asked, "All right...so....what now? The Earth appears to be gone to the bad time travelers....but will they actually go away?"

"Not exactly gone, but to the Time Pirates it might as well be. Oh yes, here we are." The Doctor gave a broad grin as he studied the screen filled with crowded various symbols. "I merely shifted the time stream to one side so the Earth appears to not be there at all. A bit tricky but we used to do this on a much smaller scale in the Acadamy to play tricks on each other. One time I succeeded in shifting the time stream so a fellow student could never get to the dining hall in time for breakfast! He ate lunch for breakfast for at least a week before he figuredo ut who it was who did it. Then he turned the tables on me and I ended up munching on breakfasts for dinner in the following week!" He gave a slight smile and a rueful shake of his head. "Not that I mind breakfast but pancakes or waffles do tend to get a bit boring after a few meals!"
Blackbeard tried studying the console himself but gave it up. "Arr, that chart be far more complicated than any I ever seen afore! This is getting to be a bit much for me, too deep sailin', says I!"

Tyler glanced at the Doctor, giving a blank expression. He had no clue what the Time Lord had just said to him. "I......all right...I didn't really get much of that, but that's all right....I 'm guessing that this Academy was your kind of school or something?"
Tyler felt protective of the watch that he had placed in the safe. Not wanting it to be harmed, he let out a sigh of relief. However, he did want to be with it for reasons that he couldn't even explain. He wouldn't keep it in the safe for long, if he could help it.
"It sounds like that really messed up your day....was that a friend of you played the trick on?"
Although Tyler didn't understand the changing time element to the story, he did enjoy a good tale -- anything to keep his mind off of the advancing pirates -- if the trick didn't work. The Doctor had assured him that it would, and so did Dan, but he still had his doubts.

"Well, I'd have to say -used- to be a friend." A slight shadow seemed to fall across the Doctor's face and then disappeared. "One has to keep hold of the good memories but learn from the bad. Anyway..." He flashed a smile around at all. "All we can do is wait. Anyone for tea?"

Tyler frowned at the Doctor's words. "Used to be a friend? I'm sorry...." Tyler replied.
Evidently the Doctor had lost a friend -- either from a falling out of friendship, or to death. The shadow that had passed across the Doctor's face didn't escape Tyler's notice either.
"I'll take some tea...it's been a while since I've had a proper cup of tea...."
