The man with one heart stood in the middle of the great divide between dimensions, his face set to that of Apathy. His head turned 60 degrees to the left, as metal men stormed past him. The future, he realized, was grim. He further went on to realize he didn't care. It would have troubled his mother, and that great-grandfather she couldn't stop going on about. It had annoyed him as a child. It annoyed him now, though a tiny bit less. A mere human would have died in contact with the void. The man with one heart was not a human. He pressed a button on his watch. "Beam me up, Scotty," he muttered. That made him grin, as he vanished in a flash of light. He materialized in a large bunker in the middle of Wales, standing in the middle of a large piece of equipment, consisting of four consoles and a large pillar connected to the ceiling. He stepped out of the chamber. It was easy to see what he looked like now: dark hair, green eyes and about 30. Ridiculously handsome. Dressed in a white suit with black shirt and shoes.

The driver sighed frustratedly and followed her directions while Bryan stepped up to the bushes.
"Why are you watching us, freak?" Bryan asked the bushes that he had heard movement. "Get out now and I'll try not to beat the living daylights out of you for being a peeping Tom."

She saw Bryan standing next to the bush in front of her window. He appeared to be talking to it. She stepped out of the car and moved closer trying to get a better view and within hearing range.

The driver grumbled a bit about people not being consistent with what they want.
Bryan stared at the bushes, looking for any movement. He finally gave up, deciding that whoever it was wasn't UNIT and turned to head back to his place.

She saw Bryan begin to turn away so she rushed over. "What did you see?" she asked as soon as she was close enough for him to hear.

Bryan jumped a little when he heard her. "Serenity. What are you doing here? I thought I told you to go ahead. What if that was someone from UNIT?"

She stood her ground and lifted her chin. "You think that I would just leave you here? That I would walk away? If they wanted to get you they would get me too."

Bryan had to bite his tongue back. He didn't doubt that they wanted to get him too, being what he was. "I wouldn't let them get you," he let slip through. "I thought that you would have the sense to look after yourself and not come looking for me." He sighed. "Doesn't matter now. Let's get going before we're spotted."

She smiled up at him and couldn't help but take his hand and say quietly, "They won't get us, I won't let them get you." She wasn't sure why but she felt a strange protectiveness towards Bryan and she couldn't even imagine letting him get hurt.

Bryan smiled as he gently squeezed her hand. He couldn't help but feel bad, thought, that she didn't know why she was protecting him. Maybe someday she could. "Come on, let's get going," he said as he headed back to the cab and got in, scooting over so that she could get in beside him.

She slipped into the cab next to him scooting as close as possible to feel the warmth of him. she wasn't sure how long they were in the car before it stopped because all the while she had been thinking.
I've never been a very sociable person. I've always preferred solitude to company and for a long time i have felt as though there was no one who understood me. With all of that being true then how did I end up here? Standing on the edge of everything ready to give my life for someone. Someone I had only known for a few hours. Someone I feel connected to for some untold reason.

Bryan smiled at her. He never really thought that what his mum told him would actually come true, that he would meet someone like this, someone he would give his life for, someone he could trust.
He looked out the window and paid the cabbie. "This is me," he said as he opened the door.
There was a simple white house with a small front yard surrounded by a short brick wall and a red door. Single-level.

She stepped out of the cab and saw his house. In an instant she froze. Her mind screaming at her, Home! But she knew it wasn't. She could see the differences. The tree she had hidden in when he came home wasn't there. The mound of dirt she had salted so she would always know where Poppy was buried was missing. This wasn't the place she grew up it was very different and she realized that it really was because the thing that truly had defined that place was the feeling. The loneliness and depression weren't present here.

Bryan looked back at her and saw her frozen there. "What's wrong?" He was about to go unlock the door when he remembered that he gave the key to her. "And can I have my key back?"

She shook her head, "Yeah, sorry this place just reminds me of the house I grew up in. Oh, here." She said and handed him the keys.
