Braxa shrugged. "Happens sometimes," she said as she put her hands in her pockets and headed down toward the Citadel. "Wanna come with me to see Mom? Can't tell her I was with Aunt Keli, so it helps if you come with so I can have an alibi."

"Sure." Gandalf said. "Hopefully she'll buy it. She's going to get suspicious eventually and if she finds out..." Gandalf stopped talking and had a sharp intake of breath, "We're pretty much screwed." he chuckled.

Jed told the Librarian, "The Council has received a rumor that the Daleks are planning to attack other worlds, and I wouldn't think that Gallifrey would be left out. If they come here, it will almost certainly mean war...and the Daleks leave nothing untouched. If they saw your garden, they would destroy it...."

"Yeah, well, the worst she could do is kick me out. Maybe then I could go stay with her instead of having to sneak out," Braxa said.
***
The Librarian frowned and nodded. She was sure that her garden would go, but what she worried about was the people. Who would survive?

Jed looked at the Librarian again, "I don't know how bad this is going to be....we might get out of it relatively unscathed if we can figure out a way of defending ourselves against them -- or they might decide to leave Gallifrey alone."
He knew that wasn't likely. Finally, he confessed to the Librarian, "I'm worried....very worried...." He looked at her, trying to read her expression at the news.

Gandalf shrugged, "It's still not good." he said. The talk of houses had gotten him worried, he'd had to take three pay cuts in the past month, he might not be able to pay his rent, let alone buy the house he'd been saving for.

Braxa saw the look on his face. "What's wrong?"
*** The Librarian nodded. She was worried too. More so for Gandalf and Braxa than herself.

Gandalf shrugged again, "I've had a few pay cuts, might not be able to keep up with me rent. You think you could lend me a couple hundred?" he said, attempting a chuckle jn a futile attempt to add humor to the situation.

Braxa looked at him, considering the options. "You know, my dad really likes you, so maybe he could let you stay at our house. You could stay on the couch. Or I could see if they'll let you kick my little brother out of his room." She laughed a little, liking the thought of that.

Gandalf smiled, "I don't want to impose anything so I'll see if I can scrape together the money. If I can't, and your parents are okay with it, then thanks. I'll add that on to the lost of things I owe you. That makes it...723 to 0."

(I better wait for Davros to come into this thread before Jed leaves to go spy on the Daleks)
Jed added, "I'm going to investigate the situation...the Council has asked me to do that. I just hope that the rumors were wrong. I don't like the thought of Daleks coming anywhere near Gallifrey. I'd rather that they just left us alone." He glanced back at her, seeing the concern on her face. "I'm sure we'll get through this...we have to." He gave her an encouraging smile, although he really wasn't convinced of it.

Braxa chuckled softly. "More like 734 to 723, but who's counting?"
***
The Librarian put on a smile and nodded. She wasn't sure of it either. She hoped they would get through it.

Gandalf's eyebrows went up, "Really? I've helped you out 734 times already? I could've sworn that every time I've helped you it's turned against you, which basically puts me at zero." he chuckled.

Jed looked at her, "Please don't tell your niece about this....I don't want to start a panic on Gallifrey, especially if it's over nothing. I have to confirm whether or not the reports are actually true."
He knew that the time was getting later and later, and that he was just stalling the inevitable. Why he was delaying this trip...he wasn't quite sure, but mostly because he was afraid of what he would find out.
He turned to her, "Well, I guess I'll see you later."

Braxa laughed lightly. "Not every time. You have no idea how many times you've helped me inadvertently. And not every time you helped me... just every so often." She smiled to show she was joking.
