The Hunter nodded at the Meddler's response. "Well, not much time on Sol 3...but I have been there a couple of times....not recently."
"Ach, well then. There yeh have it," was the Meddler's casual response. "Oi've made a few changes there anyway, so the time we met might not have even happened, 'cept in our personal timelines. But Oi'm sure it'll come to yeh, an' we've got more important things to worry about right now. Like the Council a'tryin' to kill yeh."
The Hunter grinned. "Yes....but I like my real name, too."
"You'll get o'er it. Oi barely remember me birth name now, meself."
"I.....I.....well, the Doctor and I are brothers....twins.....we aren't identical, nor were we ever......." The Hunter looked away.
"Ah, say no more. Oi'll not pry into yehr affairs." He understood. Twins never happened, except from free births. And free births were looked down on by most Time Lords as an inferior, animalistic means of producing children.
He watched the interplay between the Doctor, the Hunter, and Kyra. Now that he knew they were family, it was easy to spot the similarities between the two men. But the woman...
"Is there sommat wrong w' yehr lass, Hunter?" the Meddler asked with concern.
The Doctor finished speaking to his brother, and turned to the Meddler. "I can't tell you what to do but I will warn you, I have a lot of enemies about, it seems and some I'm not even aware of. Threats come at all angles at me, I'm afraid."
"O' course yeh got enemies, Doctor. I was one o' 'em for a time, remember? Marooned on pre-industrial Sol-3?" He grinned, lots of teeth showing. "But Oi've gotten o'er that, an' Oi've got some enemies meownself, an' Oi'd like to give the Council a turn anyway. So Oi'm yehr man fer this, if'n yeh'll have me."

The Hunter frowned. "I'm not going to go and leave Gallifrey unless I find out what's going on...and you might want to talk to our father....or Kyra and I could. He might be in trouble as well....or maybe not.....but I won't leave here unless I know what's going on. If you could keep us posted.....then maybe Kyra and I could flee....but anything serious, and I'm back here. I don't want anything happening to you."
To the Meddler, the Hunter nodded. His fellow Time Lord had understood -- had understood the social concerns and whatnot that being a twin entailed. Tyler didn't mind it, but he dreaded the reaction from most other Time Lords. The fact that he and the Doctor were twins may have been in part why they had had such a difficult childhood and why their family seemed to be particularly hated. But the Hunter had a feeling that there might be more to it -- something that he didn't know yet.
The Hunter nodded at the Meddler's inquiry about his wife. "Yes...and that's what we were trying to figure out. Something is bothering Kyra...something that she feels. I'll let her explain it better. Neither myself nor the Doctor are very skilled in telepathy....but perhaps you could help. Something of great hate seems to have been placed inside of her....since...since the initiation ceremony when we were children, but it seems to have grown. I.....I don't know if it was from the time vortex or if it was something that someone put into her....but.....the Doctor and I tried to see...but we were both kicked out of her head."
He was desperate. The High Council was after him, and not many people would talk to him. The Meddler was his only option for his wife, or so he assumed.

Kyra looked up at Tyler, terrified. He was about to put her mind in the hands of a perfect stranger? She certainly didn't like the idea of it. What if he was the one that put this inside her head and he came to make it worse? He pulled her knees to her chest tighter.

Tyler caught a glimpse of his wife's face, frowning when he saw it. "Well....if it is okay with Kyra....and I....I.....could get into Kyra's mind at the same time...."
He could tell that she was nervous about his suggestion. Tyler wanted to kick himself for how he had just offered his wife's mind up to be viewed freely by another person. He hadn't been thinking. Well, he had, but not about that -- he had been thinking of settling the issue once and for all.
And then a thought came to him. "What if she knows this Meddler person and had a bad experience with him, but didn't tell me...."
Tyler then sent his wife a telepathic message, "Do you...do you know this Meddler person?"

"I don't know him... That's why I don't like the idea of him poking around up there," Kyra sent to Tyler.
She reluctantly nodded at him suggestion. "I'd feel more comfortable with him..."
Meddler... seems an ominous name in my position, she thought to herself.

The Meddler chuckled sadly. "Yeh've no need to fear me muckin' about in yehr mind, lass. Oi've not the ability ta even project me thoughts." He looked regretful, just for a moment. "Not no more, anyhow."
He brightened. "If'n yehr game, though, Oi've a way we might be able to have a looksee at what happened ta yehr mind anyway. It'd take a lot o' power, 'specially this close to Time Zero, but Oi've made a few modifications to me TARDIS that'll carry us through."
He grinned mischievously, and glanced from side to side. "Oi can take yeh all back to yehr lady's initiation, an' we can have a look at what happened."

Tyler sent back, "All right....it was just a suggestion....you don't have to let him into your head, you know."
It was then that he heard the Meddler's comment out loud. "Oh...I just took it for granted that you would be better with the telepathic ability than me....most people usually are....but...wait...what did you say? You're suggesting that you can go back in time on Gallifrey...? But isn't that impossible? I've always understood Gallifrey to be fixed in time, so that there was no going back or forward....or maybe a better way of saying it would be that I thought Gallifrey was set outside of the normal time vortex.....thing....I know that we have access to the untempered schism, but I thought something had been done to Gallifrey to prevent anyone visiting Gallifrey in a different time. I....I've never known anyone on Gallifrey to be from a different time period...."
He looked at the Meddler with a sense of awe. "Did you...I mean...did you figure out how to do it. Maybe we can figure/see what happened....and my brother won't have to go into the Matrix."

The Meddler looked slightly embarrassed. "It's not, well, not impossible. Hard, mind yeh. Really hard. But not impossible. Least, I don't think so. I've managed to double back on me own personal time line, anyway, more'n once, an' that's just as impossible."
He straightened, unable to resist the urge to boast. Just a little. "It's all in the time rotor, y'see. If yehr willin' to override the reality differentiator and the governing circuits, yeh can push a TARDIS into Gallifrey's past. Yeh can't travel forward, since Gallifrey is Timepoint Zero, but yeh can travel back an' then back to Gallifrey's present. Course, then the astrosextant rectifier's no use whatsoever, an' the yearometer throws a fit, an' yehr pretty much navigatin' on manual wit' the vector an' the mean free path trackers. But yeah, I can do it."
He smiled, a little sheepishly. "It's just a good thing that I've got a Type 67 Mark IV that trusts me, though."

"Take a TARDIS into Gallifrey's past?" The Doctor stared at the Meddler, impressed in spite of himself. That was something he had never even considered to do. "How in all the galaxies did you manage to override the safety locks? And if you do manage to squeeze into the temperal eddies, how are you going to get out again without alerting everyone in the council?" Here he waved a hand. "I know if you put enough power into the wake you can render each of them unconcious but there will still be traces. Let me tell you, they're like the Earthen bloodhounds when it comes to tracking down who they consider to be offenders of some sort!"

"O'ercomin' the safety locks ain't too difficult, once'n yeh figure it out." The Meddler grinned. "'Course, it took a while. There's some hints that yeh can find in the histories o' Rassilon, particularly about the gladiatorial games they used to have out in the Death Zone. There's some more hints that yeh can find if you can manage to get into the Eleven Day Empire and talk 'em outta one o' the Cousins o' the Faction Paradox. Oi picked up a few more from dismantlin' a Dalek time capsule, an' seein' how they set up their coordinates. An' some o' it...?"
He hitched his thumbs in his jacket collar. "Some o' it just came from bein' one o' the greatest temporal engineers what e'er lived," he said with an air of confidence.
He grew serious again. "But yeah, it ain't easy. Only done it once, a few centuries back. Wrecked me own Loom, Oi did, to throw a grandfather paradox around me. Keep the Council off me trail, an' such. Worked, although it did take me a week o' bein' chased through alternate lines, an' finally hidin' out far beyond the time parameter limits fer o'er a year...."
He pursed his lips. "So Oi ain't sayin' it's easy, is what Oi'm sayin'. But if'n yehr game, Oi can do it fer yehs."

Tyler shrugged, "Well, it's up to Kyra, really....but just so you know...her initiation ceremony is also mine....and....and his," he nodded at the Doctor. "We're all the same age and went through the initiation ceremony together...as did the Master, if you've ever heard of him....and the Mentalist...."
"I'd be up for it, but it would depend on my wife...if she doesn't want to go, then I won't force her....but....but I would go just to see if we could figure out what happened with some of the High Council members....see if they could possibly be responsible."
Tyler glanced at his brother and nodded, "We'll be careful."
His mind had been made up. He would do anything to help his wife, even if it meant risking his own life. "I've been through the ceremony once....so it can't be that bad. I'll have to avoid my father and others....my father was there....and Kyra's mother...."

Kyra heard Tyler saying something about it being her choice. She was nervous about going wherever they were going, but took comfort in that Tyler would be going with her. She nodded. "I'll go..."
