My story goes like this.
These aliens or alien (Freddy can be it) has found a way to put people to sleep. But the weird part the people who are sleep are not aware they are sleeping but they are awake. They are dreaming they are living a regular day or days.
Meanwhile Owen was unable to sleep and he realize that everyone is asleep. He eventually learn some of the people sleeping start to bleed like they got injured or broken bones. He quickly learns that people are getting injured from their dreams are some what real.
Owen tried to wake up Jack which Jack dies. But comes around and sleeps. That shows Owen what he can't do and that kind of NPC Jack's player.
Owen has to find a way to wake people up without killing them. And we can have sleep in the dream and wake up back in reality which is rare.
We can allow Freddy to come to the reality world if he chooses because an alien is indeed feeding off the sleeping humans.
