It has been almost a year since he had seen Adagio, yet she never left his mind in that time nor did it cross his mind to go over and say, “hey I am staying here on Earth for a while… so you wanna get together or something?” It was that whole loner personality, the loner life he had set up for himself. But things had changed in that year he had been here on Earth, well it was going on to two years but a couple months of those where off Earth and he had come back worse for the wear as one would say.
There was no home coming for the self claimed Captain, no one to greet him with open arms, to say how much they missed him. All that had gone unsaid aside from the look for Jack that told him everything he needed to hear but would never be spoken between the two of them. That's how things were between him and Jack and always would be. Love from afar, the kind of love it just takes one look for things to be okay again, to know that there is at least one person out there who cares. That was all John really needed.
However there was one beauty that couldn't escape his mind that smart wonderful women with the curves in all the right places. The one who saved his life when he had been rather ill, the one he had shown the stars to in a small way. She was irresistible to him but he behaved himself, wouldn't allow himself to cross the line of friendship for something that might not turn out well. Oh who was a he kidding, thing like that never turned out well. He couldn't have a friend who was a lover, let alone a friendship that was more than just friends. It never worked out well for him in the end. And that kind of hurt wasn't something he could handle much of, let alone go through that kind of hurt again.
So why was he here again, on the doorstep of the place she had taken him to when she wanted to change for their trip? He glanced down at himself; he was just as broken as before. His leg was pieced together with some bone glue so he didn't need a cast on it but it still hurt along side his ribs, at least the swelling and bruises were gone that was a good thing. And the drugs he was on, made all that pain fade away into a dull ache.
Like always, he was dressed the same, but his hair was a little longer than before and a bit more of a curly mess. His gray blue eyes glanced around for a moment before he knocked on the door, hoping she wasn't here. After a moment, he knocked again before giving it a few seconds before turning around to leave…. It was worth a try right?

Adagio was tired...
Not tired in the sense that she needed to sleep, but she was just tired. It had been a week since she had helped to return the Earth to normal with The Meddler, and she was not very sure how she felt about the universe. She had seen a glimpse of the universe with John, but she had had no idea what all was out there in the world.
Sitting at her piano, Adagio plucked out a song without thinking and was rather startled when she heard a knock at the door. "Who could that be? Am I expecting someone?" Another knock came to her door and she sighed wondering if it was going to be someone asking her for something. "I'm coming hold your horses!" Fixing her green button-up shirt and looking down at her bare feet, Adagio shrugged and swung the door open.
What she saw before her made her smile widely. "John! I haven't seen you in forever it seems!" Stepping outside, Adagio gave him a hug rather tightly before stepping back a bit and looking him over. "You don't change much do you? Well then again... Maybe your hair?" Reaching up and running her fingers through his hair without thinking, Adagio smiled as his curls bounced back into place. "It looks nice." Biting her lip in concentration she jolted suddenly when she noticed she got lost in her thoughts. "Come in, come in! Tea, coffee, something to drink?" It was so nice to see John again. It had to be well over a year since she saw him and she had missed him a lot. It was strange how quickly people could change others, and John had changed her life a lot.

To John there was no normal in his life, there was no promise he would live to see the end of the current day, let alone what would happen in one day. However since coming to Earth, since sticking around that was starting to change and now that he was back, it was all starting to fall into place again. The scattered pieces were finding the right slots and he wasn’t sure how he felt about it.
He had promised he would never settle down, wouldn’t risk allowing anything to seem like a home, a place where people cared and loved him… That he wouldn’t get that close to anyone to be as badly hurt as he was all those years ago. He couldn’t go through something like that again. His wife and little girl had been taken from him, ripped away while he was forced to watch and he had became the man he was but now here on Earth, that guy was fading away in parts and the old him was showing more often around people like Jack… the ones he loved no matter how hard he tried not to.
And then there was Adagio, he couldn’t place his hand on what there was about here but there was something that kept him coming back to her. Well at least a second time. There was no promise to show her the most amazing things in the whole universe, no promise to give her the world yet here he was. Now walking away from the door he had knocked on, rather thankful no one answered. He was scared of getting close to someone and having to go through that hurt again…. John knew he couldn’t handle that pain again.
Then the door opened and he didn’t see the smile because his back was to her but he heard how grateful she was within her voice. Just as he turned around, he was hugged and the pain reminded him of the broken ribs that were mended with the bone glue. However, he hid the fact there was pain… it was his penance to suffer, he had no right not to suffer or be in pain after all he had done in his life. ”Things came up, love or else I would have seen how you were sooner.” Truth was, even though he had been rather busy and gone off this planet half of that time he was gone… He couldn’t bring himself to see her until this very moment and even with that said, he wasn’t sure why he was here.
John smirked and placed his hands on his hips. ”You don’t mess with this level of perfection too much.” Oh yes, he was still very full of himself and that would never change no matter what. There was a slight smile when she messed with his hair. He never really had been able to tame it aside from using lots of gel to keep it back like he had for so many years. His hair was a wild curly messy of light brown strands. His eyes glanced her over and it didn’t seem like she had changed all that much either, still a beauty with all those curves in the right places. ”You look nice.” He said while flashing that signature grin of his. John had hoped she had been too lost in her thoughts to notice what he had just said.
Then the offer to come in came and he wasn’t sure if he should or not, the last thing he needed was for this to become something more than it was, for her to read into things and for it to become a mess. ”Don’t suppose you have any Hyper Vodka… then again, I don’t think there is a way for an Earth girl to get her hands on it. I’m fine, shouldn’t be drinking anyways.” John wasn’t much of a tea or coffee person, which was good because he seemed to get Ianto’s cold shoulder more often then not at the Hub. Thus no coffee or tea for him even if he asked for it unless there were times when Jack was around and Ianto had no choice but to place nice.
John finally made the move to come in, carefully removing his jacket to show that he wasn’t hurt even though he was. The last thing he wanted was for her to start worrying about him too.

"That's understandable I guess. I mean all of space and time I guess I wouldn't be on Earth all the time either." She really would not. She liked the Earth and she wanted to make sure it was safe, but it would be nice to meet a nice race of aliens. Well, at least one that did not use humans as shells to travel through space or whatever the aliens from Yith did. When John went on to say that there was no messing with perfection Adagio simply rolled her eyes. "Yep, same old Johnny." Laughing, Adagio walked into the house with John on her heels. "I'm more of a wine and cider kind of gal so nah." When he commented that she looked nice she did not really know what to say. John was such a flirt, she could remember that, who knew what he was doing. Simply continuing to smile, she went into the kitchen and went into her refrigerator for a cream soda. "Make yourself comfortable." Motioning to her chairs, Adagio sighed. IT was so nice to see John again and know that he was safe. She had thought about him, and after the last time she saw him she wondered what kind of trouble he was up to. "So do I get to hear some of your adventures or would it be better that I stay in the dark?" Taking a seat at the table she relaxed happy that she finally got to see the man who opened her eyes to the universe.

Sure John had the whole universe at his wrist, the ability to be in any time period he wanted to be in. Heck, he even had the ability to go back and be with his wife and child again but that one was to painful to do, he never crossed the line there no mater how much he missed them. It wasn’t something he spoke of and until recently, Jack had no idea of the reason for the way he was.
There were times when it was fun to travel around to any point of time and space but after a while, it got tiring and he needed a break. Though it wasn’t that, that took him away from Earth this time around. It really was out of his hands and something that had to be done to save Jack… well the Earth but who was really counting that one. In his time on Earth, there were things that he was starting to like but only one reason was keeping him, it that was because Jack asked him to stay….
So John was trying to be on his best behavior to show Jack that he was changed for the better even though that was a struggle at times mostly when Jack wasn’t around or anyone else from his little club. However around Adagio, he could be his same old self without worry. Well he was a little nicer than what he was normally around women. Sure he hit on her but he didn’t do any of those other rude things or used those 51st century pheromones to sleep with her after a couple of drinks.
”Don’t expect anything less, love.” He grinned as he walked into Adagio’s apartment, not bothering with his boots and tossed the jacket he had removed onto her sofa before looking around. The place looked the same from what he could remember. Then again humans were the kind who were never really big on change, not when it came to their homes. Their zone of comfort never changed, then again it seemed that way for most species out there.
When he heard her say make himself comfortable, he couldn’t help the smirk. ”Shall we take this in the bedroom then? You slip into something more sexy and comfortable and we go from there?” John gave that flirty grin as he took a seat on one of the chairs, putting his feet up on the stand. Knowing she would take that just as him flirting and not in the wrong way or so he hoped.
As for his adventures she wanted to hear about, he doubted she would want to know where he had spent the last couple of months or what had happened there so he gave a slight shrug of his shoulders. ”I doubt you want to hear about me, why don’t you tell me about how things been going for you?” It was his way of saying he wasn’t ready to tell what he had been up to lately but he could lie his way around the truth if he needed to be.

When John asked if they should take this to the bedroom Adagio just rolled her eyes and plopped down on to the little couch opposite him before putting her feet up. "Sorry darlin' but I think I'll pass." Making her best 'I'm too sexy for you' face, Adagio could not help but to laugh. She had been feeling so tired lately, but seeing John was like a breath of fresh air. "Well, if you won't tell me about you I guess the only alternative is to agree to tell what I was up to." Taking a sip of her drink, she bit her lip before deciding where to start. Just thinking about how the Earth had been destroyed made her shudder slightly. "I was working for this wedding party about a week ago when I met this guy. Anyways, things went completely weird from there and I ended up meeting all these time travelers. The Doctor, The Meddler, Alec, just a bunch of people. I was about to leave the strange space convention when something went wrong. I mean really wrong..." Remembering the experience Adagio wondered if it had really only been a week ago that the Earth had been restored. Everything was back to normal, and she could remember how she called her mother as soon as she got back. "The whole Earth was destroyed, it was terrifying! I went with the Meddler and Alec to Yith to see if we could find out what happened, it was interesting at first, then it just got scary." Adagio could remember the pain of her wrists almost breaking. The Meddler had been able to fix her wrists, but the pain was still memorable. "I'm... I'm just glad everything is back to normal, I'm glad to see you." Looking up at John embarrassedly Adagio turned her head to look at a picture on her wall. "I actually kind of wondered if you were out there, if we'd run into each other ya know?" She had been so scared, and though The Meddler took great care of her, she did not know him very well. It would have been nice to see that not everything she knew in her life was destroyed.

His blue gray eyes watched as she took to flopping down on the couch beside him and ran a hand through his hair as he listened to her words. Then he pretended to look hurt by said words… ”Aww… now now, you don’t want to pass up on a very good time? I don’t think my ego can take that crushing blow to it.” He joked. Sure John usually got his way when he offered to take something into the bedroom or into that area minus the bedroom. But when it came to Adagio, it was more joking around than anything else.
This young woman had become more like his sister that he never had. She was good to be around. Someone he didn’t really have to keep up his guards around, let alone pretend to be something he wasn’t. At the end of it all, there was no real intention of making this, what they had between them something more than what it was. ”Trust me, love there is no one that is too sexy for me.” He laughed along side her for a second or two before leaning forward after dropping his feet back to the ground. A bit of dirt coming off the bottom of his boots, going unnoticed.
It wasn’t that John didn’t want to talk about himself or what he had been up to even though he truly didn’t want to talk about it, he was more concern about her. And wanted to her what had been going on in her life than what he had been through in his. John listened in closely to her, really not being phased by any of what she was saying. Even though he was interested in what had gone on with the Earth. Though what he was truly interested in was this Doctor person… He had meant the Doctor before well two different version of the man.
He waited until she finished before he started to talk. ”Which Doctor was it? I ran into him in his first and tenth form… state whatever he calls it. Must say he is much more handsome as tenth though. Easily see what Jack sees in the man. Never got to travel with him though. OH! Did you get to see the TARDIS?” John was rather excited about the TARDIS and wanted to get his hands on the ship more than what he had. Leave it to him to drool over some space ship and technology. He left the part about running into each other hanging for the moment, it had been lost in the talk about the Doctor for now.

Waving her hand at John as if his words were flies, Adagio continued to smile. It was nice listening to his numerous slightly egoistic jokes, and in all truth it felt great just to see him. When she had met John he had somehow found an immediate place in her heart, and it seemed like he could easily come and go without breaking her.
"No idea which state. All I know is he had a pretty square jaw, floppy hair, and was extremely bubbly. Maybe a little too bubbly in all truth."
In her minds eye Adagio could see the Doctor zipping around from place to place and chattering the whole time. He seemed like an interesting guy, but if he talked like that all the time she had no idea what she would do about it.
"As for the Tardis, wow, just wow."
It had been so cool though she had only stayed in the Doctor's Tardis for a little bit.
"I was in the Doctor's for a little bit and then I was in the Meddler's. What a difference! I mean, I guess I can understand that they would be completely different, they are like houses. I think they're pretty sentient as well."
Adagio could remember the warmth from the Doctor's Tardis when she leaned against it and also talking to the Meddler's Tardis. The universe was very big and a lot of stuff was extremely advanced.
"The Tardis seems a lot like your vortex manipulator, just a little more enclosed."

There was only one thing bigger than John’s ego and that wasn’t a certain part of him but the lengths he would sometimes go to keep those he cared about safe and sound. It was a rather thing but if he cared enough about someone or something, he would do what it took to get his hands on it or keep that being safe. When it came down to it, John cared more about things that would bring him wealth instead of people, well aside from two that broke those rules. For him, money allowed him to keep living this life style and gave him excitement.
Adagio meant as much to him as Jack did, well close to it. His world for the most part still moved around Jack now that he was back here on Earth and close to the man who he would have given so much up for, if he could have brought himself to do that. Adagio, had become the sister he never had. Things felt like they went smoothly when he was around her. ”It doesn’t sound like any I know of.. The first was old and the tenth was as thin as tooth pick with crazy hair. Brown suit and a sonic screw driver. I never got that who screw driver thing, why would someone need to make something like that sonic. Its’ as bad as picking up a wrench and saying that needs to be sonic.” In other words, John could think of a few uses where that might be handy but those actions might be against the laws in some parts.
John wasn’t surprised when Adagio said wow to the Tardis; in some ways she was like it him. It was things like the Tardis that managed to impress him as much as her. Oh how he would love to get his hands on one and spend a long while studying and taking apart only to put it back together to see how it works before either selling it to the highest bidder or using it for his own gains. ”Never meant the Meddler, that I can remember but the name sounds familiar.” There had been that drunken night where he had first meant the Doctor and ended up sleeping with the Meddler or something like that happened, his mind couldn’t really remember it all because of the drunken state he had been in.
”Smoother lands too for the most part on the Tardis’ end. And more like a home then a sports car. Though I wouldn’t trade my sports car in for anything. On that note, feel like finding some adventure somewhere?” John wanted to get out and do something before something with Torchwood came calling to him needing him to do something boring like chase a weevil down or along those lines. He was thinking of randomly picking a place and going from there, to see what trouble or fun comes his way or their way...

"Same screwdriver but definitely not the same guy. I mean this guy was thin, but if you needed to describe him to someone his most noticeable feature would be his jawline."
Sure, it was the Doctor's defining feature, but it was not necessarily bad. Hell, he looked rather charming and his rather serious features were dulled a lot by his bubbly personality. He had a great mix of personality, and Adagio honestly would not mind seeing him again in better situations.
"The Meddler's a really nice guy. I mean he took care of me when we were traveling together so I can't exactly say anything negative about the guy."
There was another man who had fallen into her life from outer space. How was it she could continue to get into these situations?
"I wonder J.J., how is it after all these years I suddenly have all these people from across the universe landing on my doorstep? Maybe it's just England."
Smiling, Adagio thought about all the adventures she had had since she came to the United Kingdom. She would never look back on her decision in a bad way ever. When John mentioned a new adventure Adagio perked up. She was not in the mood to have her bones almost broken like the last time, but she did feel like some adventure.
"As long as I don't come from it with a bunch of broken bones I'm up for it."
This time she would make sure to dress appropriately though. The evening dress she had been wearing last time was not good for adventuring in.
