Name: Nicholas Sunder
Age: Depends on when you meet him, usually very old for humans, but comparably young by Djinn standards.
Species: Djinn
Occupation: Granting wishes to whomever finds his lamp until either die.
Appearance: Like most Djinn, Nicholas settled on a human appearance early in his life. However, he can take the appearance of various other animals. Unlike most of his species, he doesn’t mind if he’s conspicuously non-human. In whatever form he decides to take, there’s always something a little… off about our dear Mr Sunder. It could be the uncanny way light reflects off him, or it could be the pale orange shade of his eyes.
Personality: Nicholas does, in fact, have a split personality. It is split in black and white, however his behavioral traits can create a grey area as his mind is unstable overall.
He can be found in a good persona, one that generally seeks to help those who need it and serve his current master well, despite who his current master is. He's known in this personality to be a bit timid, but is in no way a pushover when it comes down to protection. Not to mention a penchant for having pet peeves, some of which can really rub him the wrong way.
And then there’s the ‘demonic’ side of him. The unforgivably cruel, dark, and sadistically powerful personality. Despite being keenly intelligent in his “good” persona, this side has an unnervingly eerie perception. He puts this perception to good use when exploiting on others’ weaknesses. He can manipulate people two ways; with his words and actions, and with his natural control of his endless energy. However, he only manipulates people when he wants something from them. If they anger him and have no purpose that they can serve him, he’ll try to murder him. (His default personality usually comes in, luckily enough for the other person. Key word: usually.)
The first way he manipulates people – with his actions and words – he could easily be mistaken for his ‘good’ personality. He can easily charm his way into somebody’s good graces, subtly manipulating them to do his will. When he has their trust, he begins to lightly bring up their fears and concerns, dredging up what they’re ashamed of. Even without using his powers, he has the uncanny ability to bring about the downfall of a person by isolating them away from those that he or she once held dear. Once they’ve served his purpose, he leaves.
The second way, and the far less common way, is to manipulate the energy around him. A Djinn’s “magic” comes from their innate ability to control energy and atoms. However, Nicholas uses some of his own dark energy to affect those around him. He can inflict crippling paranoia on them, making them see their worst demons until they give him what he want. But it hurts him to use it, as he's using his own energy instead of what was around him.
History: Nicholas didn't always have two personalities. Originally, he was a decent Djinn with an alright master who wasn't the kindest of people, sometimes putting him to work for days at a time, but who at least gave him a bed, if not a room, food, if not his best, and shelter, if not the least leaky part of the living room.
When this master was killed in a tragic car accident, he settled down in London for a while, comfortable in his suburban flat, a new master every other year or so. That changed when someone kicked his Lamp out of the way, thus introduced himself to the master that would pave the way for his disturbed personality.
Nick immediately appeared, eager to meet his new master, a gruff and violent man, especially when he was drunk. Sadly for the unfortunate Djinn, he had a habit of getting drunk -- a lot. Though the scarring was more mental than physical, the damage was done in both areas. He began displaying odd behavior, but nothing to foreshadow his later schizophrenia and dissociative disorder.
Directly after this master, he had a new one. He expected the worst, and was surprised to find that this master was quite kind, and they grew on each other. Time passed by, and his master grew old and sick. Inevitably, he died later that year.
This was too much for Sunder's already unstable mental condition and the anger and pain were channeled into another personality. Lately, this dark side is rising to the surface a little more often...
The switches are usually triggered by painful reminders of his past. For example, when he encounters someone drinking – or drunk – it brings about the memories of the abusive master, and likewise when someone shows him a great deal of kindness that reminds him of the master he befriended. However, the switch can also happen when the Djinn is under a great deal of stress.
Additional Medical Conditions: Djinn are, at their core, made of pure energy.
