"Doctor in the future you told me about a time war, the last great time war. from what you told me. it was the war to end all wars. after it was over bits and pieces of your world were scattered threw out eternity. one of the things that survived it was the key of rassilon. when the cyber men discovered that it still existed they say it as a way to go back in time to before the war started and use the key to invade the matrix and concur the time lords once and for all." Having said that Izzy waited to hear what he would say.
The Doctor sipped his beer. "A last great time war?" he said, a note of skepticism in his voice. "All right," he sighed, "Let us assume that, for the moment, what you say is true. What you say then becomes modestly plausible, although I wonder how any 'time war' capable of destroying Gallifrey would still render travel within Gallifrey's Time possible."
He waved a hand dismissively. "But let us ignore that for the moment. The question then, is-"
The nature of that question was never revealed. The front door burst inwards and, to the sound of screaming patrons, the Cybermen entered.
"We seek the ones known as the Doctor and as Izzy Smith. The rest of you are unimportant, but we know that the unaugmented fear death. Bring them to us, or face deletion."
The Doctor's eyes were wide. "Ah," he said, "your story begins to sound more plausible. Perhaps we should retreat to the TARDIS?"

Izzy turned to the doctor with a rather frustrated look. "Ya think!"
Izzy then lept behind the Bar with his lazer drawn firing three rounds off before he ducked behind the Bar. beside him was the bartender who sat cowing in fear. "Hey buddy you got a back door outta here?"
The man pointed Izzy and the doctor to a door down at the end of the hall near the bathrooms. "Come on Doc this way!"

"Come on Doc this way!"
"Doctor!" he groused as he hustled down the hall. "Not Doc! Doctor!"
Emerging into the foggy evening air, the Doctor blinked rapidly. Peering up and down the alley, he gave some thought as to which direction would be...
Tall, stiff figures, silhouetted by the gaslights and veiled by the fog, stood at the near end of the alley.
He caught Izzy by the shoulder as the younger man emerged, and held a finger to his lips. "They're down that way," he whispered, twitching his head to indicate the direction. "At the risk of sounding redundant, I suggest we go the other direction."

"Yes, doctor..." Izzy whispered. He then fallowed the doctor down the Alley way. Hoping to go around the cyber men. Izzy slowly peaked around the corner seeing that there were two cyber men guarding the box. He fired at the first one taking him out. and then fired again at the second dodging his attack.
he then stood up looking at the doctor. "all right the coast is clear."

he then stood up looking at the doctor. "all right the coast is clear."Cautiously, the Doctor unlocked the door of the TARDIS. With a beckoning wave to Izzy, he stepped inside and drew a sigh of relief. This, at least, was as it should be. He closed the door as the younger man entered, and sat himself in one of the chairs. "Well, Izzy," he said, "I still cannot say whether I credit your story or not - frankly, the idea of a war that could destroy Gallifrey sounds absurd to me." He held up a finger to silence his protests. "But, whatever I may think, it would appear that these - what did you call them? ah, yes, cyber-men - are now hunting us. So I must assume that they, at least, believe your tale." He leaned back in the chair and steeples his fingers. "And so, it appears that I must do the same. Now then, young man, what are we to do about this? I have no desire to cooperate with murderous cyborgs, and even less desire to be deleted." A pause. "When my future self - and having met one of my future incarnations, I must acknowledge the possible merits of such a claim - sent you to me, had we developed a plan for resolving this dilemma?"

"My the Tardis looks so different." said Izzy. the last time he was in the Tardis he was traveling in that brown wooden control room that had a sort of Victorian steampunk feel to it.
"Very well, I hid the Key of Rassilon in the one place in all of time and space i knew the time lords would never go. I left it in the year 100 trillion at the end of the universe." said Izzy. He remembered the Doctor once saying it was the one place where even the time lords wouldn't go.
however there was the danger of the future kind... but Izzy was sure he could retrive the Key with a little help from his trusty ray gun.

"My the Tardis looks so different." said Izzy."
The Doctor scowled. "Yes. I've had the misfortune to see how I will be redecorating it in the future. I must say that I prefer the clean lines and simplicity of the current look, though."
"Very well, I hid the Key of Rassilon in the one place in all of time and space i knew the time lords would never go. I left it in the year 100 trillion at the end of the universe." said Izzy
"The year 100 trillion..." the Doctor mused. "I assume you mean 100 trillion absolute?" He eyed the console and the time rotor critically.
"The year 100 trillion is hardly the end of the universe, Izzy," he said, his tone of voice like an Oxford Don. "It merely marks the transition between the stelliferous and degenerate eras. It's when star formation ends. Shortly thereafter, for deep time values of shortly, the last star burns itself out."
A chill seemed to settle over the TARDIS with those words, and he fell into silence. "You are correct, however, when you say that no Time Lord would venture that far. It has been forbidden by the High Council."
Silence, again. And then he rose to his feet, a lopsided grin on his face and a defiant glint in his eye. "All the more reason, then," he said, striding to the console, "to go there. I will not be enslaved by their dictates! I will not meekly submit to their commands!"
He stood before the console, transformed by the rage in his voice. "What coordinates, Izzy? Where shall we seek the Key?"

"with your permission doctor Id like to enter the coordinates myself." Said Izzy standing next to him at the console. Not many people knew how to fly the Tardis. But Izzy was very bright and learned from the best. but that was another story all together.
he waited the hear what the doctor said and then entered in the coordinates with his fingers running over the keys like lightening. it was clear that he knew what he was doing. "here we are doctor, the end of humanity." Izzy himself being human had to summon all his strength to go back outside. his gun drawn he made his way to the doors of the Tardis taking one last look at the doctor. "Doctor, you don't have to go with me if you don't want."
on the other side of the door were the ruins of a city built into a cliff. among one of the ruins there was an old church. one that had been abandon centuries ago. that was where he hid the key. with any luck he could sneak into the city without the future kind even knowing he was there. they would not be interested in the key. only him for his flesh.

"with your permission doctor Id like to enter the coordinates myself." Said Izzy standing next to him at the console.
The Doctor hesitated. He knew, knew, that it wouldn't hurt to let him try. At the same time, his mind rebelled at the thought of letting someone else, particularly a stranger, touch his TARDIS. A wave of anger flashed through him, anger fueled by... jealousy?
He examined that, puzzled. His mind played back over the centuries, revisiting his first time entering this grand old ship. The wonder of seeing it, the amazement of being handed the key, the...
Ah. Yes. That explained it.
"As you wish, Izzy," he said, "But take care. Li-the TARDIS" he corrected, sharply, "is a sensitive instrument."
he waited the hear what the doctor said and then entered in the coordinates with his fingers running over the keys like lightening. it was clear that he knew what he was doing.
The Doctor nodded approval, then sat down in one of the antique chairs.
It takes time to travel a hundred trillion years, even for a time machine. Finally, after subjective hours of flight, the time rotor ground into its rematerialization sequence.
"here we are doctor," Izzy said, "the end of humanity."
The Doctor looked up from his novel - a leather-bound first edition of H.G. Wells' The Time Machine - and scowled. "My dear young man," he said, "This is my vessel. Kindly allow me to make the melodramatic proclamations." A lopsided grin took the sting out of the words.
His gun drawn he made his way to the doors of the Tardis taking one last look at the doctor. "Doctor, you don't have to go with me if you don't want."
"If I don't want?" the Doctor questioned, marking his place and rising. "If I don't want? Izzy, I've now traveled farther than any Time Lord is permitted to travel. How could I not have a look at the end of the stelliferous era?"
He drew on his opera cloak and garrison cap, picked up his gnarled blackthorn cane, and joined Izzy at the door.
Outside were the ruins of a city built into a cliff, crumbling and overgrown by the low, black vegetation of the landscape. Overhead, the few stars twinkled like drops of blood, fossil light left over from long dead stars, redshifted by the inexorable expansion of the universe. A thin, cold wind blew, carrying the scent of moisture and decay for the oily shores of a vast lake nearby.
"There is a lake in distant Zan," the Doctor quoted, "Beyond the wonted haunts of man, "Where broods alone in a hideous state "A spirit dead and desolate. "A spirit ancient and unholy, "Heavy with fearsome melancholy, "Which from the waters dull and dense "Draws vapors cursed with pestilence. "Around the banks a mire of clay, "Crawl things offensive in decay, "And curious birds that reach the shore "Are seen by mortals nevermore."
He let the words fade. "Presumable, the Key is hidden in yonder city? Let us go and fetch it. And then take some time to explore - I'm curious to see what secrets lie in this last citadel of man."

Izzy escorted the doctor across the barren land listening to his poem. it was very lovely and melancholy. "Is that Poe?" asked Izzy. "That reminds me i must pay him a visit after this"he walked with the doctor alone the narrow corridors until he got to the church. most of the carvings inside the walls were faded much like the stone steps that led to the archway. however there was something strange about the church. around them were the remained of soldiers and military equipment. Izzy went up to the alter where there was a secret door. he placed his hand over the isometric scanner. welcome Izzy Smith, said the computer as it opened the door. "Around the fifty first century the church moved on from religion and formed a sort of military to search the stars looking for god. this batch was part of a human colony that was designed to guard the utopia project. I left the key here with them"Izzy made his way inside the vault picking up the key like it was the holy grail and came back out handing it to the doctor. "Here doctor." Izzy looked around. nothing could be that easy. not when it came to the doctor.

"Is that Poe?" asked Izzy. "That reminds me i must pay him a visit after this"
"Howard Lovecraft, actually," the Doctor corrected. "From 'The Nightmare Lake'. Very appropriate, don't you think?"
The two of them made their way through the crumbling, decayed city, towards a structure that could have been a church. Once upon a time.
there was something strange about the church. around them were the remained of soldiers and military equipment.
I left the key here with them"
The Doctor looked around with interest. "Are you telling me that these ruins have stood here since the 51st century, anno domini reckoning? Because this is..." he did a little math, "around the 99,955,000,000 century using that reckoning. If what you say is true, they must have been better architects than I gave them credit for."
Izzy made his way inside the vault picking up the key like it was the holy grail and came back out handing it to the doctor. "Here doctor."
He eyed it critically. "Well," he finally pronounced, "It certainly looks legitimate." Carefully, he tucked it into his coat pocket. "Now, what do we do with it?"
Outside, the distant sound of snarling and howling could be heard.
"More to the point," he said, "Should that concern us?"

"Howard Lovecraft" said the doctor. Izzy then remembered the adventure that this doctor and he had with him and the bane in the 1920s.
But he didn't have time for that. he had to continue on with his mission.
"Well," he finally pronounced, "It certainly looks legitimate." Carefully, he tucked it into his coat pocket. "Now, what do we do with it?"
"I was hopping you could tell me doctor." said Izzy. he thought perhaps the doctor would want to destroy it.
then he heard the snaraling of the future kind. devolved humaniods with sharpteeth. they were canibals and would easily tear the doctor apeart. Izzy drew his gun waiting for tem to strike.
There were only two. "Huuuumaaannnns!" they cried as they pounced.
Izzy fired upon them killing them instantly. He paused for a moment looking over them with a sad expression. it was one thing to kill a Daleck or a cyber men but killing his own kind or something that looked human always got to him. "I'm sorry I had to kill them Doctor. but it was either them our us. come on lets go back to the Tardis. More will come...."
As Izzy hurriedly walked back to the Tardis he thought now was the perfect time to tell him about H.P. Lovecraft.
"Doctor I know you don't like to know to much about your own future but i should tell you that the last time I saw this incarnation of you was in the 1920's with H.P. Lovecraft at The Blackwood Academy in the Costal town of Arkham main."

"Well," he finally pronounced, "It certainly looks legitimate." Carefully, he tucked it into his coat pocket. "Now, what do we do with it?"
"I was hopping you could tell me doctor." said Izzy.
The Doctor frowned, then produced a small leather-bound journal from his coat pocket. Scowling, he made a few notes. "Reminder: when sending Izzy to have me fetch the Key, have a plan," he muttered.
The journal went back in his pocket, and he eyed the Key again. "For the moment, I would suggest we return it to the TARDIS. From there... well, I dare say it will be reasonably secure there."
"Huuuumaaannnns!"
Izzy fired upon them killing them instantly. He paused for a moment looking over them with a sad expression. "I'm sorry I had to kill them Doctor. but it was either them our us. come on lets go back to the Tardis. More will come...."
The Doctor looked at the corpses, and frowned. "As they do not seem inclined to make fine distinctions between human and Time Lord, I can't find it in me to criticize your actions. And yes, if there are more to come, returning to the TARDIS seems an admirable course of action."
"Really?" the Doctor said, speculatively. "And this 'Blackwood Academy' sounds terribly intriguing. I must say that I am simply abuzz with... an... tic... ipa... tion..."
His voice trailed away as the TARDIS came into view. It was surrounded by a mob scene, scores of the futurekind dancing and singing around it, the entire ghastly scene illuminated by torches. Small, dead animals and a human head were piled in front of the door. Every so often, the futurekind would shout a word and grovel before it, before resuming their dance.
"Izzy?" the Doctor said, carefully. "I have no desire to alarm you, but I believe there may be a slight difficulty in regaining access to the TARDIS..."

lucky for the doctor Izzy had his vortex manipulator with him. rather than fight their way threw the mob he thought it would be much eaiser to teleport inside the Tardis.
He grabbed on tightly to the doctor wrapping his arms around him. "Hold on tight Doc, this is gonna get a bit bumpy." said Izzy as he pressed the button on his vortex manipulator.
they disipeard in a flash and found themselves inside the Tardis with the future kind outside. "Okay that was lucky. Now what?"
