Gwen is thought by many to be attractive. She has dark brunette hair, and hazel eyes. She is in considerably good shape, being able to disarm assailants of their weapons from a close range, and sprint for extended periods of time. She also has a noticeable, but not unattractive gap between her two, top front teeth. She is physically identical to her distant relative, Gwyneth.
History:
Gwen Elizabeth Cooper was born to Geraint and Mary Cooper on the 16th of August, 1978. Due to spatial genetic multiplicity travelling through the rift from an explosion that occurred in Cardiff in the 19th century, Gwen is physically identical to her distant relative Gwyneth, though she did not gain the latter's psychic abilities.
She lived a mostly unremarkable life from her birth to age 29, and during this time she met and began a committed relationship with Rhys Williams. They moved in together and have lived together since.
At age 29, Gwen was invited to join the Torchwood Three Institute by Captain Jack Harkness, following the death of former member Suzie Costello. There, she met a reserved Ianto Jones, Toshiko Sato, who she took a liking to quickly, and Owen Harper, who she had an almost immediate dislike for.
Despite her animosity towards Owen Harper, she began to have an affair with him. During this time period, she also grew closer to Ianto Jones, who after the death of his girlfriend that he had hid in the basement of Torchwood Three, opened up considerably. She grew more distant from Toshiko Sato though, after her discovery of Gwen and Owen's affair. Eventually, her affair with Owen ended, and they became much better friends than previous to that event.
During her first year as a member of Torchwood, she shared considerable romantic tension with team leader Jack Harkness. However, she proved her true romantic allegiance when she shot Jack, feeling he was in the way of her saving her boyfriend Rhys Williams. Gwen and Jack did repair their relationship though after they stopped the ensuing onslaught of Abbadon in Cardiff.
After this event Jack left Torchwood, and though she was the most junior member of Torchwood Three, due to her intelligence and ability to take charge, she was the de facto leader of Torchwood Three. When Jack returned, Gwen revealed she was engaged to Rhys, and their romantic tension mostly dissolved.
Eventually, while investigating an unscrupulous meat distribution company, Rhys Williams discovered Torchwood. Rather than use retcon to destroy Rhys's memory as instructed by Jack, she decided to allow Rhys knowledge of Torchwood, and he eventually played a much larger role in Torchwood Three.
Soon after this, she met Martha Jones, former companion to the Doctor and U.N.I.T medical officer. They became fast friends, bonding over the fact that they were seemingly the only people who had not become romantically involved with Jack Harkness. During this time, Owen Harper experienced his first death. His seemingly permanent death affected Gwen very deeply, though not quite as much as Toshiko Sato, who had developed romantic feelings for Owen. Eventually, Owen was revived using the Resurrection Glove and he seemed to become more detached from his teammates, due to his depression over his un-life.
Eventually, Gwen and Rhys were married, though to the chagrin of the latter's parents. Later, Toshiko and Owen were killed by Jack's former brother and his former lover, Gray and John Hart. This deeply affected Gwen, and it left only herself, Ianto Jones, and Jack Harkness as the members of Torchwood.
Gwen briefly met the Doctor and some of his companions, such as Rose Tyler, Donna Noble, Sarah Jane Smith, and K9 during the Medusa Cascade incident. She and Ianto Jones were able to assist the Doctor by manipulating the rift to get him to Earth and the Crucible, and then using it as a sort of tether to pull the Earth back in to place.
During the 456 incident, Jack and Ianto solidified their relationship, thus making romantic involvement between Gwen and Jack impossible. Ianto eventually died during the incident, and Jack was forced to let his grandson die, thus cutting off ties with his daughter completely. After the incident had ended and Gwen revealed she was pregnant, Jack decided to leave the Earth, believing with his daughter and his love gone that nothing remained for him on the planet.

After Gwen's departure, she gave birth to Anwen Cooper at age 33. She went into hiding with Rhys and her daugher under some form of witness protection, but was eventually targeted by unknown people looking to destroy Torchwood. Gwen's father Geraint Cooper had a life threatening heart attack around this time, but was saved due to the Miracle. Jack eventually returned to protect her, and they began to investigate the Miracle together. Jack discovered during this time that the instance of the Miracle had turned him mortal. It was also during this time that she met Rex Matheson, who she had a tense friendship with, Esther Drummond, who had a relationship that could be described as sisterly, much like how Jack looked out for Gwen when she joined Torchwood, and Vera Juarez, who later "died" when burned alive, though is still alive due to the Miracle. Her father also experienced a second heart attack, essentially "dying", though his ultimate fate remains unknown.
Additional Medical Information:
Gwen has been pregnant twice and given birth once. (The first time was with a shapeshifter alien offspring.)
