Original: Original.
Name: Dalek Nine, or just Nine for short.
Age: ~28
Species: Imperial Dalek
Planet of Origin: Skaro
Occupation: Refugee, mercenary.
Physical Description: Like all Imperial Daleks, Nine stands approximately five feet tall and has a white and gold colour scheme. The lower half of his skirt though is heavily blackened and charred by the extreme heat generated by atmospheric entry and several of the first two rows of hemispheres on the skirt have been melted and deformed by the heat. Otherwise the Dalek appears to be in operating condition with only a few traces of charring on the manipulator arm and eye stalk.
History: When he was bread and his travel machine manufactured more then twenty five relative years ago, Dalek Nine was conscripted into service aboard one of the empire’s many battle cruisers. This particular one was under the direct command of the Emperor Dalek himself, also know as Davros. While many of his brethren were sent to Earth’s surface in the year 1988, in search of the Hand of Omega, Nine’s duties kept him on the cruiser, preparing additional landing craft for launch. However, before any of his brothers or the Emperor himself could realize, they had accidently loosed a terrible weapon on their own planetary system, destroying the new Dalek empire in it’s infancy. As the weapon returned and the cruiser’s destruction seemed inevitable, the Emperor fled the vessel in his escape pod.
It was at this point Nine made the decision to eject himself from the hanger airlock. The choice was motivated by every Dalek’s primary motivation, to survive, and in this case worked. While the emperor escaped and the rest of his brothers perished in the explosion, Nine was left floating in low Earth orbit. Their technology hadn’t yet advanced to the point where individual travel machines could fly in space, but they were built to withstand harsh environments and had a limited capacity to levitate. It was these two factors that allowed Nine to survive for the three months he floated in orbit, until it decayed to the point were he entered into Earth’s atmosphere. Pouring every ounce of power from his storage cells and solar arrays into the anti-grav units built into his travel machine, the Dalek managed to slow his entry enough so as not to burn up and eventually managed to just barely make a soft landing.
In the process though he’d badly damaged both his energy storage cells and the anti-grav system and covered parts of his solar collectors in black ash. His ability to hover more then a few feet off the ground had been destroyed and with his damaged energy cells, the travel machine would need to be recharged from external sources of power frequently. Knowing he was likely the last of his kind and computing that the Emperor was likely destroyed in the explosion, Nine had two choices to further his survival, hide or fight. He could try to decimate the planet’s population and use their inferior technology to create new Daleks, but that would likely bring the Doctor’s attention back to Earth and in his damaged condition there was no way he could take on the Timelord. His other option, to hide, was therefore the only viable one.
Nine had landed, quite by chance in the outskirts of Cardiff, thankfully at night, otherwise he would have been spotted quite easily. Making his way into the city, the Dalek found access to the sewers and concealed himself as best he could there. Tapping the electrical and phone lines with his manipulator appendage, Nine was able to access the then, primitive internet and learned what he could of the planet. As time went on and Nine waited for humans to become technologically advanced enough so that he could repair himself using their robots, he collected more information about them through his connection to the phone system. Also quite by accident, Nine survived the temporal effects of the Time war, shielded from them by the emanations from the rift. The Millenium came and went, Nine detected the gravitational anomaly of the Eye of Harmony being opened and later discovered evidence of the Doctor’s presence on the planet. Fearing that the burst of energy was a ploy to lure him out, Nine remained in his hiding place for another decade and a half.
It wasn’t until the battle of Canary Warf that Nine new there were still Daleks in the universe. Unfortunately they were not Imperial, but what was left of the Renegades. By this time, gathering information from the widening scope of the internet had become easy and Nine discovered organizations such as UNIT and Torchwood, the latter of which presented the best possible option for his survival. With the empire gone and his travel machine damaged, approaching Torchwood and offering his services was the best option to get a hold of the technology he needed to either build himself a new travel machine or repair his existing one. And so, with this task in mind, Nine set forth after nearly thirty years in the Cardiff sewers, not to conquer, not to exterminate, but to do the one thing a sane Dalek would never do, befriend.
Additional Medical Information: Severely limited ability to hover, barely enough to climb stairs. Critically damaged power storage cells, must recharge frequently, also limiting the use of his death ray. Has lost his sanity to the extent that rather then wanting to kill humans, he wants to assist them so they will help him ensure his survival.
