He is an original.
His name varies from owner to owner. To keep it simple, you can call him Blue.
Blue isn't sure about his age. He has memories spanning back millions of years, but there were times when he went dormant inside his Lamp; a place where time did not affect him.
He's a Djinn. His species has existed on Earth for at least a billion years. Their origins aren't certain, nor are their purpose. They are made of pure energy, but they can morph into physical forms. They aren't prone to violence; when faced with a confrontation, they disappear. Due to this, not many have had the chance to even try to kill a Djinn.
However, they are not immortal: if separated from their Lamp for too long, they die. Their Lamps come in many different forms and are rarely Lamps. [Blue's, for example, is a vase.] If someone finds the Lamp, they become the Djinn's master; and the Djinn must answer their wishes. The Lamps are generally well-hidden and elusive, so very few ever find the Lamp. Unlike in many myths about Djinn, they can exist outside of their lamp without a human discovering and 'releasing' them; as long as they stay within two hundred kilometers of their lamp.
When a human - or other species, although that hasn't happened that Blue knows of - possesses the lamp, they are in complete control. They are in charge of the Djinn's name and form; many humans in the past preferred their 'genie' to be in the shape of an animal companion. Blue's last owner made him stay in the form of a Maine Coon cat.
Blue is from Earth.
He's a bank teller. Until someone finds his Lamp, that is.
His appearance can change at his will. He usually remains in human form, if only for the entertainment that humans give him. He's also quite fond of taking up wings and shifting into a bird - usually a canary. In any form he takes, his voice remains the same. This means he can't pretend to be someone very easily - although those kinds of things were generally looked down upon in Djinn society.
In his human form, unruly black curly hair lays [well, occasionally stands] on his head. His ears poke out through his hair. His eyebrows are heavy, and are usually furrowed in concentration. His eyes are dark, constantly drinking in his environment. He dresses to blend in with the other humans and his surroundings. The only sign that he was anything other than human would be his occasional tendency to change his appearence. Those changes are usually subtle and explainable, but can be rather hard to explain if he leaves a room for a moment and comes back with bright blue hair.
Having lived for at least a million years, his personality is a little strange. He has witnessed entire civilazations and races wiped out of existence, it made him a little... solemn. At the same time, he had witnessed first-hand some of the most spectacular moments in human history. Blue recognized the world for what it was - sometimes it was beautiful, sometimes it was ugly, but it was always dark.
He was always curious. He knew much more than humans about mundane things: how to live, how to grant wishes, and how to have a low-key persona. But that didn't account for anything. It didn't teach him why humans were so passionate, it didn't teach him how they were so insignificant and yet so very important. He couldn't grasp knowledge of things that humans knew so well, and it frustrated him.
He was extremely volatile, but that was nothing unusual for a Djinn. When they were as old as Blue [and he was a relatively young Djinn] it wasn't uncommon for them to develop personality disorders, especially when they had been through a variety of owners. He was generally docile and calm, but was also known for his biting sarcasm and rudeness when he was annoyed. Which was happening exceedingly often.
Blue had trust issues to tie it together with a bow. He did like humans, in fact he had a couple of friends. They weren't exceedingly close friends, but he did enjoy their company. However, he knew that if they found out he was a Djinn, they would immediately look for the Lamp or demand he grant them their wishes anyway because they were friends. It was, after all, human nature.
And knowing that, it made Blue very lonely indeed.
His history wasn't as exciting as it was long. He was created early in humanity's beginning. He wasn't close to his parents. Djinn - this was a general rule, and there were certainly exceptions - didn't fall in love. They merely continued the existence of the species and stuck together for five years to make sure their offspring didn't get itself killed. This was the case of his parents. He had loose contact with them after they left him on his own, but it was a mutual understanding that he didn't need them, and they didn't want him.
Blue didn't like Earth. It was too hot, cruel, and ugly. So he hid in his Lamp - which was then a boulder instead of a vase - for a few centuries. When he came out, the world had slightly developed. It was then that the first person owned him. He was forced to take the form of a fox, and grant every menial wish the human could think of; to find him excellent women, excellent food, excellent drink, and to put him in a position of power.
But that human died, and Blue was back to observing the Earth change around him silently. He went through master after master, each of them greedier than the previous. And then his most recent owner fell into his life. Literally; the man had fallen on the vase and nearly had a heart attack when Blue had shown up. Mattieau was his name, and he dubbed Blue as Giovanni (the name Blue used at his bank telling job; Blue Giovanni). Mattie let him choose the form he wished to take (but when they were in public, it was agreed that Blue would be a cat.)
Mattie wished for a hat, for his little sister to not be sick, and for his mother to have enough money to keep her home. Blue enjoyed Mattie's company; the way the bumbling man would drop plates everywhere, the way the man would read to him the book about genies (even though Blue had read it before, he found it amusing the way Mattie would act it out). And then Mattieau wished for Blue to kill him before the cancer did.
After Mattie's death, Blue resumed to live in the human world. He got a job as a bank teller because it was the most unassuming thing he could do while trying to at least do something in the human world. With the world around him beginning to hum with activity other than human's, he was trying to become more closed off. The worst thing that could happen was for someone to find his Lamp that couldn't be responsible with the wishes.
