It is with much sadness that I announce Elisabeth Sladen's death.
At the age of sixty-three, she has died of cancer, leaving behind her husband and daughter, Sadie.
You guys will know her as Sarah Jane Smith, long-time companion of the Doctor and star of her own spin-off show, The Sarah Jane Adventures.

She spent so much of her life being a Storyteller for us. She did it so beautifully. Her family shared her with us for so long. I'm so deeply thankful for all of that, and sorry for her family's loss.
She played my hero so well.
I'm sending out a great big thank you to her in the great beyond.
How I will miss Elisabeth Sladen being in the world.
Dear, dear girl.

Now that I'm over just being thankful, I'm starting to grieve. It didn't really hit me until I was trying to choose a new Sarah Jane video. To see her there so alive and vibrant drove home Elizabeth's death for me. For those of us who fell in love with her in the 70's, this is the video I've been grieving with. For those her first found her in the Adventure series, you may find this disappointing. Just know, it was always Elisabeth.
Hugs, Elisabeth, and thanks for everything. Thanks for always being edgy and complex in your portrayal of Sarah Jane, breaking ground in defining being a successful woman in every age. Only someone who was compassionate in life could have represented someone so obviously compassionate on screen. Thank you for being tough and vulnerable. Thank you for all the running.
