It had been a few days since he first trust Jack and Simon and went back to Torchwood with them. There had been some test done but he hadn’t spoke to Owen since the test were ran, he knew that Owen was leaving a few things up to Jack to take care of. For the most part, Daniel was laying low and staying his room. He claimed he wasn’t feeling good and was going to lie down but that was almost three days ago. The truth was, he just wanted to be left alone. Luckily they respected that and left him be for now, he had a feeling it would last though. The food they would leave on a tray beside his room wasn’t something he really touched. He drank the juice or water they brought him but he didn’t touch the coffee or tea that was left there for him.
All of this was still strange and he was having trouble adjusting with it. He wasn’t use to this freedom, to having the warmth and comfort of this room. It was really rough on him. Daniel had finally come out of his room when he was sure everyone would be gone for the night. Well besides the Captain from what he heard, the Captain lived her. But maybe he would get lucky and wouldn’t end up bumping into the man who he shared part of his DNA from. Daniel was holding out, not really telling them anything because he barely knew what he was and where he had come from. Luckily they were not putting pressure on him about those things, it was something he was thankful for.
Daniel had made his way out in to the central part of the hub and sat down on the sofa that was out there. He curled up into the corner of it, listening to the hum of the computers and a few other sounds around the empty hub. He picked up a file that was laying the stand and started to read over it. Needing something to do, to keep his mind off things, to keep him busy at the moment.

From what Jack could tell, it was early morning now and time for Janet's next feed. Ianto had left Jack with this one job and he made sure to complete every morning. Without her ration of meat, Janet was even harder to work with and Jack liked to have her as cooperative as possible. (Believe it or not, he really did love her like a pet. It didn't matter if she tried to rip his head off every chance she got.)
Once he was sure the entire chicken had been eaten, he closed the slot in the cell door and left the level, waving at a grumpy-looking blow-fish alien as he passed its cell. Oh, Jack never got tired of teasing the species. They were all identical in every way, each one reminding him of his first encounter with the species.
Eventually, Jack got to the central area of the Hub and relaxed his shoulders. There was less chance of attack here. The only thing willing to jump him would be Myfanwy, but she had calmed down considerably since Ianto had switched to a different brand of barbecue sauce.
Jack began busying himself with tidying the computer area and updating the rift monitor. For the time being, he believed he was completely alone, and even began to dance around slightly. It wasn't until he saw Daniel's reflection in one of the monitors that he stopped. What was the boy doing out here, on the sofa, reading through what appeared to be Ianto's last report on the bay's water clarity?
"Can I help you with something, Daniel?" Jack said casually, pretending he had not been startled by the boy's presence. "I would've thought you'd stayed in your room a bit longer. Toshiko and Gwen designed it specifically to your likings, I take it?"

The file he was looking at wasn't all that interesting but it still provided him with insight into this Torchwood, more than what he had seen and had been told already. The report seemed to be about and the clarity of it wondering if they kept an eye on the bay incase any changes would hint of something else would be there. It was little things like this that was helping Daniel get more comfortable with this world, this Torchwood. Though so far, he really had been avoiding getting close to those around him or reaching out to do so. Mostly keeping to himself these past few days he had been here, not ready to come out of his shell yet.
Daniel had no idea that Jack was out in the central part of the Hub and dancing around. He had been reading over the report and not really listening to what was going on around him or else he would have noticed someone else here. A hand came up and rubbed at his eyes before he heard the voice and his eyes glanced up and a shake of his head was given to the question.. ”Sorry..” He said as he sat the report back down. It wasn't often that he had said much or even talked, it was still a little nervous about all of this.
When it came to his room, all he asked for a was a sleeping pad and a blanket but both and Gwen and Toshiko had gone behind that, giving a room with a bed and would have been a great room for someone of his age. There was the game system, some books, tv, computer and movies. When he was showed the games and computers, those he pretended to be interested in because he didn't want to hurt their feelings but he wasn't quiet into them yet. He was use to more simple surroundings and not having much. ”The room is great, they did a wonderful job with it.” He said as he brought his head down to his knees, resting it there.
His light blue eyes looked back at Jack for a moment before looking back ahead at nothing. ”Hard to get comfortable.” He finally said but it wasn't the only reason why he had trouble sleeping. But he didn't say much more because he didn't want to get in Jack's way or anyone else's.

Harkness
Sensing Daniel's unease, Jack sat. Being at a lower, more vulnerable level tended to calm some people, even if it was the smallest of gestures. Daniel didn't seem completely at ease, despite being in the hub for around four days. As the captain of his team, it was Jack's responsibility to deal new aliens, members, visitors, etc. Being a social butterfly, it was a job he enjoyed.
His bright blue eyes watched Daniel's face carefully, monitoring it for hostile movements or signs that he was going to become difficult. It just seemed like he was nervous more than anything else.
"I can understand your fear," Jack said simply when Daniel was finished. "Torchwood has a bad reputation among the stars, but I can assure you, we're a different unit and all those under my command treat aliens with respect." He concluded his small speech, figuring it would be unwise to mention Owen's habit of "shoot first, ask questions later". Daniel had already seen an example of that anyway.
"Do you want to talk about what happened? I still don't know where you're from."

(OOC: Sorry about the length. I just started to type and became all of this >.< First true monster post in a while)
It was like being a caged hand fed animal being released into the wild with not much experience to go on. Sure he knew some of the basics and how to survive but he was taught those things in order to make him a solider not to deal with life like these. Then again, it wasn’t like he worked with the scientist and doctors when it came to that, he fought it as hard he could which often ended up with a punishment or being sent back to his cell. There was no child hood for him, no normal life. That brought the unease he was feeling, the struggle to adjust with everything.
As he watched Jack set, he offered a faint smile before looking back down at the floor. The other male’s gesture was nice and one that he wasn’t expecting but it did help him to feel like Jack wasn’t going to do anything. As he glanced back at Jack, he couldn’t help but feel as if he was looking into the eyes of someone familiar, like he knew this other male before but even though that was true only having meant a few days ago. Daniel sat there listening to Jack; his voice had a calming feel to it. But like everyone else, they all thought he was from the stars that he wasn’t from this world.
Part of that was true and he gave a little nod of his head to what Jack had said. ”I have seen that your different then what I have know just from watching these past few days.” He said as he looked back over for a moment. Then came the question, one he had been avoiding answering each time it was act. After if he didn’t want to talk about it. Daniel never was comfortable about what had happened with him and he didn’t think anyone around here would believe him but Jack seemed different than the rest. As if he had seen more than was in the here and now. A deep breath was taken and slowly let out.
”I’m not from this planet… this time. I don’t know what happened. But this world, city is nothing like the city and world I come from. I think you call them parallel universes. In the Cardiff I know, this place is not there, the buildings are made from glass and steel. The streets are not black or made from bricks. I don’t know the year because I was held in a cell by a rouge Torchwood unit known as One. After they captured me from Babylon, they tortured me for days trying to figure out what I was and what I was a capable of. After that, I was locked away in a cell for almost three years… with barely and food or water.”
He took a moment to pause from the story, swallowing hard not able to really talk at the moment or continue on. His eyes closed for a few seconds before opening back up.He always had trouble dealing with his past and trying not to let it haunt him but it usually didn’t work out well. The years of abuse and what was done to him would take a while to wash away, to be forgot about.
”Babylon was a military origination, their goal was to make a solider that could deal with the coming threat but also one that could help them over throw the government. I was the first one to be created… the test subject so they could improve the weak areas. My DNA was said to come from a man who couldn’t die, a man who used to work for Torchwood before the rogue group ran him out... which was blended with a couple of aliens DNA to give them the abilities they were looking for. After I was created, they just tested, trained and beat me. There really isn’t much else I know or can say.”
By the time Daniel had finished talking, he had wrapped his arms around his legs tighter, almost trying to curl up in a sitting position to give him comfort. His eyes closing again as he sat there on the sofa. Trying to keep himself together at the moment, he never really talked to anyone about this before then again there had been no one there for him. He left out the parts of what they did him but the memories were raw enough to still hurt.

Ooc; Is it okay if I get around to this within the next week or two? It's the holidays now, so I'll probably be able to reply within a couple of days, but I have a whole lot of homework to do. I need to finish my school stuff before I can write anymore.

OOC: Take your time with a reply Jack and good luck with your homework and school stuff. Right now my muse is on the fritz and I doubt I could reply if there was a post.

Ooc; Thank you so much for your patience. I really appreciate it. I've been so busy with homework and slumming it out in a half-consciousness lately.
The stress of being in a new environment seemed to be wearing Daniel thin, but he was also getting stronger, physically and mentally. Jack could see that much. It was always difficult to tell one's life story, but Jack hoped that gentle prodding would get it out of the younger man.
Sensing the beginning drawing near, Jack placed his elbows on his knees and leaned forward so that the lower half of his face was cupped by his hands. His body language was that of a bored student, but his clear blue eyes were interested, studying Daniel's face.
At the right moments, Jack let out short nods and sympathetic "mm"s. He was a keen listener.
Daniel got deeper into his story, explaining the Babylon organization. The group was familiar to Jack, but he had been through many years of running and working. The name didn't bring back any solid experiences, only the occasional fight or 'rescue' mission. His eyes hardened. According to Daniel, Jack's information had be taken from him and... what? Placed inside a test being? He grunted faintly in disgust.
Those institutes. Torchwood One, Babylon - they never cease to amaze me.
Jack was still glaring at the floor when Daniel finished. In his mind, he was trying to sort out what to say and how to handle the situation. How could he tell Daniel that he was, technically, his father? There were no words.
But the others have already noticed some similarities between us. It shouldn't be too hard. Just a bit of hinting here and there, pulling up some nonsense files.
He sighed and placed his entire face in his palms. What to do?

It had been hard going from the structure of Babylon between his time in their cell to years spent locked away by Torchwood wood to having freedom to do what he wanted, to not being locked away. It was a huge adjustment and one that he really didn’t know what to do. But his body had fully recovered from what he had gone through well besides the really bad headache he would get here and there but nothing time away from everything and rest wouldn’t take care of.
As for getting the story off his chest, he wasn’t sure how it felt at the moment. All those memories of what happened to him had played through his mind as he spoke. After the story was done and said, it had taken sometime to push them back against. Even though his body carried none of the scars from what they had done, he still had them mentally and those would take some time to fade away.
Daniel uncurled himself a few moments later and looked over at Jack who had his face buried in his hands. He reached over and touched Jack’s shoulder giving a gentle squeeze. The firs time he had touched any of them. It seemed like not only had he opened up to someone the first time, he was making contact too. Daniel had heard about the similarities between him and Jack from what the other’s told him but he wasn’t sure what to put into that. Why they seemed to have those similarities between them. ”I’ll be okay… all of this is going to be okay.” He said quietly, not sure what else to say at the moment.

At the presence of Daniel's warm hand on his shoulder, Jack looked up, his eyes slightly wetter than usual. He wasn't crying - oh, he rarely cried - but he had no idea what to do. If the younger man said everything was going to be okay, if he could believe that, then Jack would make the effort to as well.
"This world is different," he said seriously, hoping that he wasn't getting too doom-and-gloom. "I promise that you're safe here and that you'll get through any hesitance you've had in the past. This will be your home. We've done rehoming in the past, so if you decide that you'd rather be out in the real world, then that's fine too. For now, though, why not get out and about a bit more?"
He smiled and looked back at the areas where Toshiko and Owen so often worked. They were empty now, of course, and only illuminated by a thin blue light. He could just picture Daniel there, working on the computers, sprinting after culprits in the field.
"Your, ah, abilities would definitely help, that's for sure. We don't wish to abuse your skills as some would, but if you were designed for war, imagine what you could do for peace. You'd be a complete and wonderful contradiction. How does that sound?"
