Well, obviously I'm new. Brand new, in fact.
I don't know anything about Doctor Who. Actually, I know that there are different doctors (and the tenth seems to be the most popular) and that there's some chick called Rose. And Captain Jack Harkness. -swoon- That's it. As I said before... I'm brand new. A teeny tiny summary would be highly appreciated.
But on another note, I've watched the first season of Torchwood!
Now. I have a few questions. First, am I allowed to create an average human character from anywhere in the world? I wanted her to join a Torchwood unit, but I didn't know whether or not Cardiff was the only one being played. Second, am I allowed to choose any actor to represent my character? I was going to choose Lea Michele, but I don't know if someone has her already.
That's it. I'm not looking to waste everyone's time with my nonsense. Hurr.

I don't think anyone has Lea Michele, so yeah, you can use her, well, here is Doctor Who in a few paragraphs. Doctor Who is a show about the Doctor.... there arn't exactly different Doctors, he can regenerate. So if he gets killed, he can regenerate, healing all damage to his body, and also changing his appearance. He can do this 12 times, and so, he can have 13 bodies. (Don't let anything convince you otherwise) He travels time and space, righting wrongs, with help of this thing called a TARDIS (You've probably heard the name) They can change shape normally, but the Doctor's is broken, so he can still travel in Time and Space, but it is stuck as a police box. The TARDIS is also dimensionally (bigger on the inside) It can also regenerate, healing itself and changing its appearence. He also travels with companions, Rose was one of these companions, the newest companions however are Amy Pond and Rory Williams. Captain Jack was also a companion. The Doctor's arch nemesis' are the Daleks, click on their name to find out more about them. And that's basically it.

Thank you for the summary!
I was wondering why there were different people as the Doctor. I thought that the producers just changed it around for fun or something. I now know otherwise.
I shall go and read those links now.

well, practically speaking, when an actor no longer wants to be the Doctor, they find someone else to play him...and he "regenerates...." changes his appearance and becomes a 'new person.' And, if you want to learn more about the Doctor, you can do so in character, by having your character show up in a thread and stuff That is always an option. Also, any of us would be happy to answer your questions out of character, as well. We like new people, and we like explaining it to new people. Depending on which Doctor you want to meet, will depend on where he is in his time line. If you meet Doctors 1-8, Gallifrey is intact, and the other Time Lords are around. If you meet Doctor 9+, then Gallifrey has been destroyed. Gallifrey is the Doctor's home planet. He's an alien who looks like he is human, but there are differences. The regeneration is just one difference. In our rp, there are other Time Lords around besides just the Doctor, after the Time War. The Time War was the war that the Eighth Doctor was in...the one in which his planet was destroyed in. You are welcome to join any board(s) you want to. If you join one of the Doctor boards, your character can just run into the Doctor in some way. It wouldn't be likely that your character would know what a Time Lord is, or would know about the Doctor, so you should be able to catch on fairly fast, as he'll need to explain everything to your character that your character wouldn't know anyway. And yes, you can definitely create a normal human

Wow! You guys are good at explaining things. I was starting to get confused and then you summed up what you were saying. I literally went ooh.

Well, it can get a bit confusing, but anytime that you are confused, please don't be afraid to ask.

Don't worry! I'm usually full of questions!
I've found a few places online that I can watch Doctor Who, though they take a while to load. At this rate, I may be able to get through an episode a day.

Actually, not knowing much about the Doctor won't impede the playing of a companion, as when the human companions first meet him they don't have a clue about him either!

Ah, sneaky. Haha! c;
I considered having Gylfie as one of the Doctor's companions. Martha Jones was a companion, as was Jack, and they're both on Torchwood at some stage. Apparently Toshiko and Ianto have also met him and one of Gwen's relatives have met him too (I watched that episode!). Having Gylfie meet with the Eleventh Doctor is feasible, is it not? It's in the right time frame.
If I ever get the time and space to ask for that roleplay, I won't hesitate to ask.
Thank you for the suggestion!

Not knowing is a blessing and can bring in new energy in a scene in a role playing game. It even can spark the other player too.

In all honesty, any Doctor would be all right, as the Doctor travels in time.
I'm not sure what happened to everyone....but tomorrow is the 12th Day of Christmas, so I'll go send out a massive PM and e-mail to everyone, trying to get them to log back into their accounts. If they don't log in by Saturday, I'll assume them to be inactive. If they wish to readopt their characters, they will be able to.
I may have to rehunt for some Doctors. We shall see.
Anyway, back to the matter at hand -- since the Doctor travels in time, any time is "right" for someone to travel with him. The year that your character lives in doesn't matter. All the timey wimey stuff. So....you can travel with any Doctor you desire to.

Oh, that's excellent! c: That opens so many more doors. I must be honest though, I find the newer Doctors much more appealing. I haven't seen the classic ones yet, so until then, I won't be comfortable writing with/for them.
And as for the accounts -- I think it'd be a good idea to delete all the inactive ones. If an account hasn't been active for, say, six months, then it should be poof'd. The "one hundred members" thing is sort of misleading. There are still lots of active members (which is awesome), but not as much as a new member might hope for.
(I'm sorry if this message seems bland. It's past 4AM and I'm so tired. I got distracted by the notification. Ha!)

I'd say we need characters for Nine, but he hasn't been on for a while, I can't play him, as i'm already Five.

Well, according to the original rules set up by the founding admin person, he had it so that if people didn't log in in a year their accounts would be deleted. However, I agree that six months is probably long enough unless I have somehow heard from them.
I'll go do an activity check tomorrow, and old accounts in which the person hasn't logged in in six months will be deleted. If they want to be part of the site, they can rejoin the site.
