Why is it that one minute Jack hated Ianto and Ianto hated him and suddenly a few episodes later out of no where they appear to be a couple...Making suggested remarks about things you can do with a stop watch?
Sorry I just think we should have gotten some sort of episode that shows how and when and on what terms they went from hate to flirting and eventually a true couple....

I don't think they ever considered themselves a couple until when Jack returned and they had that talk in the office. Other than that, why they went from hating to screwing? I always wanted more a development beforehand as well, but my mind just puts it with Ianto never really hated Jack and might have fancied him, but was so caught up in Lisa that he didn't do anything about it/secretly ALSO hated Jack for making him be the clean-up boy when it was obvious in flashbacks that he had wanted to be part of the action...plus after Lisa was killed, he was basically on the rebound and who better to rebound WITH than an intergalactic man-whore  As for Jack...well i just said, he's an intergalactic man-whore (in the best terms possible of course! I love myself some Jack) |

Hmmm good point....  I still hate the writers for not giving us a good episode on where it started  ;D Besides it would have made my inner fan girl squeel with joy...... |

Wait....why does jack flirt with like every female companion of the doctors except Amy from 2005 and up and now he and Ianto are a couple? I have missed so much by just not watching Torchwood.

Jack flirts with everyone. He flirts with the Doctor, he flirts with gals, he flirts with other species, don't matter to him! First episode out he flirted with one of the other men in the ranks and also was about to flirt with another man to get them into the fenced off place they were about to go to. he knew that man was gay, so off he went with a wink and a "don't wait up".

*gasp*
I think I sorta found that critical turning point!
At the end of the last episode of the 1st season!
When they think Jack's dead for good, poor Ianto goes into his little office and takes his jacket and sniffs it and he looks like he's gonna cry and then they kiss.....T_T *sob softly*
I'm actually watching this episode as I type...T_T
He must have been keeping that pent up inside untill then o.0
Unless they had been a couple behind the scenes...But I belive I have just solved the case.

Sorry I have been gone so long but I am back!! Yay!! That is sort of when we see their relationship change but I wonder if it really is. I think that it was sort of built up as more of a friendship after Lisa when Jack was comforting Ianto and I think they sorta became friends after that but after he came back isn't really when the other side of their relationship developed because when he gets back from the doctor in kiss kiss bang bang he asks Ianto out on a date but they make reference's to the fact that they have been together before but not officially. Well anyways that's my take on it, it's not very clear. Ps. Ianto if you want to make a rp about it just pm me I'm up for it.

Oh, I was so sure I replied to this earlier.
In "Fragments", we see that Ianto and Jack were flirty from the start, though Jack was cautious about letting Ianto onto the team. Despite still having feelings for Lisa, Ianto quite suggestively complimented Jack on his jacket (and Jack later reciprocated with his compliment on the suits, which are awesome by the way).
When Jack dies in "End Of Days", Ianto finally acknowledges that he has feelings and, I guess, Jack does too. We all know Jack though... he goes about kissing everyone. Anyway, they get smoochy, Ianto starts a jacket sniffing habit, I start crying, yadda yadda yadda.
And then throughout the rest of the series, we see them intimate (in "Adrift"), we see them all cuddly and suggestive (the stopwatch), and we see Ianto admitting to himself, his sister and Jack that he's in love. [SPOILER] Then he dies.
