Because I noticed that some of you were starting to swear and use certain words, I enabled some restrictions on words. I'd rather that you guys didn't use certain words.
If your characeter wants to swear, then please use either Rassilon (if the character is a Time Lord or knows Time Lords)....or frame it in another way. Really, there is now real reason to use the typical swear words that we think of. It adds nothing to the RP, and it makes you look kind of bad. There are other ways of conveying disappointment or anger besides cussing. Be creative and type up the effects of the situation or anger. (pounding fists, walls, whatever). I'm trying to keep this RP suitable for anyone who wants to to read this.

There's a guy that I've been talking to from the UK, and he says that the word "bloody" is a swear word for them. Since I'm banning American swear words, let's not use the word "bloody" in this rp either...I know it means nothing to Americans, but let's be culturally sensitive.
I always thought "bloody" was simply an adjective that they liked to use a lot. I don't remember if it's used in Doctor Who or not (I think it was), but we don't really need to use it any of our character's dialogue. Let's try not to use it, all right? They don't need to say it in order to sound British.

And on that note, I've just noticed that the third Meddler (down in Time War and School Days) is responsible for some questionable language. I don't think it's too bad, but I can go back and make some edits if you want.

I noticed that -- you don't have to edit old posts, but from now on refrain from using any word that you know is a swear word for either Americans or British people. I'd imagine that there are some Australian swear words as well that would be different. So...if someone isn't an American and has noticed that a swear word is being used that you find offensive, please let me know. I will add it to the swear list, and tell people not to use it.
My British friend also said that the word "crap" is considered a very bad swear word for them -- so let's add that to the list of not to use.

"I have been on good with my swearing," Owen said to the board. "It's not I don't swear all lot. Least there is no rule for guns..."

Oh, are we really censoring minor words like 'dang' and 'bloody'?
I'm not a swearer, at all, but I rely on those words as a form of release for my characters. Sometimes they just fit the character better than saying 'oh my!' or 'darn'. Especially the use of traditional British curses, such as 'bloody'. I wouldn't expect to see Owen use any other word, because that's how he rolls, you know?
Doctor Who is family-orientated, I understand that, but Torchwood isn't. And even so, Doctor Who doesn't have a completely pristine record. They have the odd slur here and there, but they're not major curses.
Just my view on the situation. I'll follow the rules, no doubt about that, but I just suggest we allow a bit more freedom for our characters.
(At the very least, can we use the word 'dang'? I've used it on more than one occasion, only to find it comes out as 'Rassilon'. I have no idea what a 'Rassilon' is.)
Ignore me if I'm being annoying. I'm really stressed right now.

Torchwood isn't family friendly, no, but this site is...as is proboards itself.
If you want to have your character say a swear, you can either bleep it out...like right out "bleep" or just use another word...or you can just write "swear" or something like that. That way your character can still swear (we can guess what they mean), but without using the word itself.
I'm not from the UK, so I don't know how minor a swear word 'bloody' is. All I know is that when I casually wrote out the word as an example of bad rping, stating that someone on a site I was on had their British character use it in every single sentence of dialogue just make their character be British, my friend respectfully asked me not to use the word, telling me that it was a swear word. He wouldn't even write it out. He just said, "Please don't use that word again," and explained to me that it was a swear word in the UK.
As for 'dang', it isn't a horrible swear word, although I don't use it myself. I suppose that if you had to use an actual swear word, that would be better than anything else. (I don't know how bloody is in comparison to bloody.) I just would prefer us not to use any swear word, if we can help it. I don't know how people in the UK view 'dang.'

I knew my comment about Torchwood was invalid when I posted my last reply. I accept that this board is family-friendly. c:
I guess I'll just write bleep when I have to have Captain Jack swear. Like I said earlier, I'm not a swearer myself, so it's not often I use bad words. My parents raised me to use no curse words whatsoever. I'm not even allowed to say shut and up in the same sentence.
Going by the placement of 'bloody', I'd deduce that it has the same effect as the F word, but it could also have the effect of 'dang'. "Bloody Torchwood" would turn to "dang Torchwood". No, that doesn't sound right.
Are you accepting the word 'dang' as appropriate? -hopeful- If so, would the censor be taken off? And, just as a precaution, please don't put a censor on 'bloody'. Although it's a swear word in Britain, it's still an adjective for something covered in blood and I know that, sooner or later, I'll need to use it.

The term bloody is used in PG and PG-13 movies and British TV alot, so it can't be that bad. Anyone who has read or watched Harry Potter would know the phrase (bloody hell) and they are found in the childrens sections of libraries and book stores alike. Proboards is PG-13 not rated G. I'm an American and I knew that it was a mild swear word, lol. - wiki (LINK TO SOURCE)_________________________ G- THE MOTION PICTURE CONTAINS NOTHING THAT WOULD OFFEND PARENTS FOR VIEWING BY THEIR CHILDREN. PG- PARENTS ARE URGED TO USE "PARENTAL GUIDANCE", AS THE MOTION PICTURE MAY CONTAIN SOME MATERIAL PARENTS MIGHT NOT LIKE FOR THEIR YOUNGER CHILDREN TO VIEW. PG-13- PARENTS ARE URGED TO BE CAUTIOUS. SOME MATERIAL MAY BE INAPPROPRIATE FOR PRE-TEENAGERS. R- CONTAINS SOME ADULT MATERIAL. PARENTS ARE URGED TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THE MOTION PICTURE BEFORE TAKING THEIR YOUNGER CHILDREN WITH THEM. GENERALLY, IT IS NOT APPROPRIATE FOR PARENTS TO BRING THEIR YOUNG CHILDREN WITH THEM TO R-RATED MOTION PICTURES. NC-17- PATENTLY ADULT. CHILDREN ARE NOT ADMITTED.

Oh, you're right!
I completely forgot that Harry Potter is British. Once you grow up with it you can ignore the accents and slang.

I'd rather you avoided using 'dang' if at all possible.
As for 'bloody', you can use it as an adjective, yes. There should be nothing wrong with that, even for British people...because that's using the word as it is intended to be used, and not as a swear word.
All right...I was just going off of what the British friend told me. I will allow 'bloody' since it is used in Harry Potter, (which I never noticed because I'm American and the word means nothing to me). Still, don't overuse it...since it is a swear word in the UK. Try to avoid it if you can...like 'dang.'
I don't want any other swear words used on here besides those two. You'll have to bleep out anything else, and only use 'dang' or 'bloody' as swear words if you feel like your character HAS to swear in that particular instance.

Wew! Thanks Ten.
And don't worry about the whole 'using other swear words' thing. dang and bloody are all we really need for character expression.

What no beeping...beep this... beep that.. beep beep...I am actually using a car horn here. Ha!
I am always careful but there is a degree how many times you swear. Some people swear all lot because its a culture from the city. That's what I was told from some kid from Philly. I was like well stop it. Mind you this was at a aerospace manufacture place. I lost of course.
But people need to use common sense. I should be the FIRST one to be warned but Owen was good on that I write it as Owen goes trashing off swear words. I describe it instead using the words. LOL
