(I'm not the best when it comes to starting threads.) Romana wasn’t as obsessed with the Earth like the Doctor was. She thought it was an average, still not very advanced planet. Or at least the times the Doctor visited the most weren’t, but it still had a homely feeling. Humans weren’t the smartest out there, but their forms were familiar and holding a conversation with them was at least more interesting than one with a Sontaran or a Dalek. Both which she had already tried and had failed miserably, in both occasions almost dying. Now, the Doctor had an advantage when it came to the Earth and certain times.
But Romana had met that during certain times and locations, women weren’t treated in the same ways as men. This had already caused trouble for the young Time Lady, but not today. Today Romana sat in a small café in Paris, drinking a cup of tea and having a clear view of the city during the 21 century. Since the Doctor had brought her here for the first time, Romana knew she had fallen in love with the city. No other earth city could compare to it, no matter what the Doctor would say about his preference of London.
Romana loved Paris, he could keep London all to himself. For that same reason Romana found herself alone right now, she had stirred the TARDIS to Paris while the Doctor was too busy to notice. She informed him of her departure, it was about time she got a day off. When he didn’t answer she simply sighted and left a message with K-9.
She enjoyed the Doctor’s company but at times the man could be extremely infuriating, taking a long sop from her hot tea and picked today’s newspaper. When one was a Time Lord “todays” NEWS didn’t hold the same meaning, but looking around the TARDIS she had found stacks of newspaper and she had taken a liking to read them. When she regenerated she stopped a bit, but at times of tranquility and silence she enjoyed a quick read. Plus there was a chance she could find something interesting, maybe something that would catch the Doctor’s attention.
No matter how much he angered her, she hated feeling anger toward him for long periods of time. Maybe a quick alien chase could ease the tension between the two of them.

(okay, this might work better to chameleon arch Ten in this thread)
A young man with brown hair, skinny, and wearing clothing that fit in with the time period walked into the same cafe. Being a foreigner from England, he enjoyed his trips to France every once in a while. The man loved to travel, probably being affected by his strange dreams -- dreams of traveling to other planets and visiting other places.
After looking around the cafe a bit, ordering his food, and sitting down himself, he noticed a woman there, apparently sitting alone. She happened to be reading the paper. Not really liking to see anyone alone, he got up from his chair, picking up his tray and walking over to where the woman sat.
Not being perfect in French, he was still rather good. He enjoyed meeting people from different places and learning about their lives. He aske her in French, "May I join you?"

Romana hadn’t been paying much attention to her surrounding as she read the paper. When she heard someone walk in she looked up at the newcomer but didn’t paid much attention to him before she returned the words before her. It was just another human, there were no alien invasions on Earth today. The paper announced a few human crimes, nothing strange in this times. But other than that everything was humanly normal. Just like the young and slightly handsome man that had walked in.
Romana called the waitress and asked for another cup of tea, having finished her. Just as the woman left, the young man that and just arrived walked right up to her. She looked at him, this man reminded her of someone she couldn’t place. She wasn’t sure what it was but there was something there, hidden away in her mind that this man reminded her of. She shrugged the thought off, she visited Earth a lot she probably passed him on the street once or saw a picture of him. Maybe he just simply reminder her of another human she could have met before.
She smiled up at him, recognizing his English accent at once. “Sure, I could use some company. My name‘s is Romana by the way.” After only the Doctor and K-9 for company she could use someone to talk to.
(I forgot to mention this is hers second self(Lalla Ward)

He grinned, pulling up a chair and sitting down beside her.
"Romana....Romana.....hmmm....I think I've heard something like that before. Have we met?" the man looked her over, trying to remember where he'd seen her. She looked familiar, too.
Noting that she had responded in English, he grinned. "So, you are English as well? Oh....and I'm sorry...you told me your name, but I didn't tell you mine."
Instead of using the name John this time, his TARDIS had selected a different name. "I'm David Smith. I'm a professor at the university over there." He pointed in its direction. "So, where in England are you from?"

Romana looked at the human with interest. While he resembled her of someone, his face didn’t look very familiar to her. But when one was a time traveler, you never knew who you had met or who you will be meeting. O her familiarity to him could come from her meeting him in her future. Or simply they had crossed while walking down the street, they had met so many humans that way that she couldn’t keep track.
“English, oh not. I’m from a place a lot farer than that. I’m from Gallifrey.” Romana stopped, she remembered that the Doctor had informed her that humans didn’t really know about Gallifrey. At least not yet, must of them didn’t even know about the millions of life forms that live out there.
“Is a bit if an unknown place, we don’t really have many foreigner visit.” Romana smiled, hoping that he wouldn’t ask her more questions about her home. The Doctor was a lot better at this than she was.
“Well hello Mr. David Smith. My friend would probably enjoy meeting you, he enjoys talking to people of intellectual positions. Scientist, professors, doctors just name it.” If only he was here, but it was really his loss. He probably was still working on the TARDIS, oblivious to his missing companions.

As Romana explained that she was from somewhere called Gallifrey, David grinned. He grinned even brighter when she said that it was an unknown place that didn't have many foreigner visits. However, he was slightly confused by the fact that she said it was another country. Frowning a moment, he then started to laugh a bit.
"Actually, I have heard of it, believe it or not....I was actually born in Gallifrey. You're the first person I've met who has heard of it. It's a small town...village, rather, so....but I don't need to explain that to you. Yes, I was born there, lived my first few years there, and then my family moved to London. Imagine that, two people from the little village of Gallifrey together in the same place."
He grinned at her.
"It is a pleasure to meet you, though, Romana from Gallifrey. Your friend....where is he?" David glanced around, but couldn't seem to find a man that seemed to know Romana anywhere. "I always enjoy meeting new people."

As she explained that Gallifrey was a far away place, she noted the oddly familiar man grinning, and furrowed her brow as he began to laugh. It seemed that the man hadn't believed her. Although, that was not unlikely, seeing as David had stated he was a university professor. It was all the more a shock to hear the dark haired man say he was born there.
Her expression shifted and she smiled back, with a nod. "It's quite hard to believe indeed, David. It is quite exciting to see that there is another Gallifreyan." She said calmly. Her mind was whizzing about with many thoughts at once. Was it possible for there to be a small village called Gallifrey on Earth? No, she was certain that there wasn't. The Doctor had told her before that the human race did not know about Gallifrey yet. Folding the paper she'd been reading before the male had joined her company she set it down on the table and glanced up at him.
The man was dressed in time-period clothing, just as she was. He had mousy brown hair, and brown eyes. There was just something about him, and she still couldn't place it. If the man was truly Gallifreyan, then it was possible that it was someone she knew. "My friend is... Well, I'm not quite certain where he is at the moment. He's probably right where I left him, most likely still fiddling with his machine." She mused.
Smile turning to a grin, she wondered what to converse over. "So, Mr. Smith do you enjoy traveling?"

"Gallifreyan? Is that what those who are from the city are really called. I suppose that makes sense....it's just that a person isn't exactly identified by their home town very often...or rather...maybe someone from a large city tends to be known by such names," he said, smiling at her.
"Well, then....Gallifreyan it is."
David listened as Romana explained that her friend was probably tinkering with a machine. "Is he an inventor, then?" David asked her. "Or a mechanic? Or did he just get something knew...or or...is he an engineer?"
The woman had just asked him a question -- of which he nodded in response. "Oh yes....I love traveling...although I can't say that I've been able to travel much recently. I'm rather limited by the time of year...."
He paused a bit before asking his next question. "And what about you?"

"Yes, Gallifreyan. It's... It's a relatively new term but, that is how we identify back home. I suppose that's true, but is it not true that people from Berlin are Berliners, Those from Rome, are the Romans. Then there are the Venetians. The Sicilians, are another group." She responded with a light smile, although she was being a bit technical there. She seemed to have a habit of doing such things, although with a triple first from the Academy it seemed only right for her to state the facts fully and give supporting details.
Romana gave a small nod to the notification of David's confirmation of the word Gallifreyan, and then thought. The Doctor an inventor? He was something more like a renegade. A mechanic didn't fit it either. "Ah, he is just like most men are. They enjoy playing with their machines, such as automobiles. I suppose he's just trying to see what happens as he plays around with the control circuits." She gave a small shrug and then watched the man across from her as he answered her question about traveling.
She found it interesting that David loved to travel, just couldn't do much of it. Not even taking the time to think over her Answer Romana smiled. "I love to travel. Although, I've been to places that I can assure you, that you've never heard of before. I've been far and wide through-" She cut herself off, trying to think of a word, for she couldn't say universe. "Far and wide though the planet. From the smallest islands to the ice sheets of North America." She responded.
She lifted her cup of tea, a drink that the Doctor had introduced her to and sipped from it daintily. Setting the fragile porcelain object down, she studied the male's features. "I just can not shake the feeling that I know you, David. Anyway, what do you teach at the university?" She inquired curiously.

David heard Romana's response and nodded. "Well, I suppose....it might not be true of all big cities....but it is the big ones that have a ...tendency to have their citizens identified by that city."
"Control circuits...so....is it IS something mechanical. A toy maybe? Or...well....a model of something.....or a machine....a computer, perhaps...or electronic device?" David asked her. "Maybe I could help. I like to work on things myself."
"Actually, I've studied geography quite a bit.....you maybe be surprised...I have heard of a lot of places. It all sounds so....so.....fascinating.....have you been to every continent, then?" David asked her, clearly admiring the extensiveness of this woman's travels.
"Perhaps we met each other as children....or....or...well...maybe we saw each other in Gallifrey. I teach...well...physics right now, but I'm qualified to teach other subjects. I love history...oh...and math...." David excitedly informed her. "I like computers, but I've never tried teaching the subject."
He looked back at her. She said that she couldn't shake the feeling that she knew him. He honestly couldn't remember any one like her...but....but...wait....hadn't he dreamed about someone with similar features? He couldn't be certain.

Romana gave a small nod at the fact that it was true that not all large cities were identified by the city, and then thought for a moment, each question was whirring together. She kept thinking and thinking. This man sounded more, and more like the Doctor by the second.
“Yes, it is something mechanical. It's not a toy. It's... not a computer, or anything of that likes. I'm afraid that it's high-tech and my friend does not like allowing others to work on it.” She stated in response and smiled briefly to him.
“Oh, I see. That's interesting. My friend is a doctor. Not of the Medical field either. I'm not certain what he's a Doctor of though.” She wanted to add in he's just called, the Doctor but kept her tongue. Smiling she gave a nod. “Yes, I have.” She stated, though it was false. She'd been to other planets, she'd been through a few areas of Europe when it came to Earth though.
“Well, you said that you moved away from Gallifrey as a young boy, is that not correct?” She inquired and then nodded slightly. So, it really was curious. It felt just as if he truly were the Doctor.
“Do you know what the time is? I haven't a watch on me.” She stated, although she knew what time it was, after all she was a Time Lady.

David nodded, "Oh.....well....all right then. If he does need someone, or if he ever asks for help, make sure that you tell me. Hmm....if your friend is a doctor, well then...he must have a doctorate degree in something." He grinned.
David nodded again, "Yes, I moved away from Gallifrey when I was a child....oh...and to answer your other question.....I....well, unfortunately, I left my only working watch at home....however....I have my mobile..."
David paused a moment as he reached into his pocket and pulled out his cell phone, and then glanced at it briefly. "It's 10:29 AM."
David shrugged. "Hmmm...I seem to have lost track of the time. That's been happening a lot to me lately. Maybe it's because of the weather...I really don't know."

Romana gave a nod in response and then hummed slightly in agreement that she'd go tell him if her friend needed help. That wouldn't happen though being the fact that the Doctor would never allow anyone to touch the TARDIS console, remembering just the earful she had received when she'd adjusted the console so they could find the pieces of the Key to Time.
Listening carefully, she thought. It seemed odd to her still to hear the man refer to Gallifrey as a village, when it was really a planet. “Ah, I see. Wait, only working watch? You have others that don't work, David?” She inquired before the time was told.
The fact that the time had gone by so quickly and hadn't been due to any shift in time made her realise that the tea she had been drinking went cold.
With a nod Romana smiled slightly. “Time goes by quickly, sometimes it goes by like the blink of an eye. Other times... Well, other times it feels like a second lasts forever, especially when it's someone that is close to you that you're worried about. Don't you agree?”

David glanced at Romana as she asked if he had watches that didn't work. He simply nodded, "Yeah....most people do....I have old ones that....well, I just can't seem to bring myself to get rid of old watches that no longer work."
At Romana's comment that time goes by quickly sometimes, while at others it seemed to go by forever. "I'm not very good at telling the time," David replied. "Which isn't good, because I don't wear watches very often. For some reason, I just find them to be a bother....but that's why I'm late so often. I should really just get into the habit of wearing one all the time. That way I wouldn't lose track of the time."
"And yes, I agree with what you said about time going slowly when you're worried about someone..."

Romana cocked her head to the side curiously and then nodded once to indicate she was listening. "I don't really have many watches. I have one, but it isn't with me. I'm curious though..." She stated with a soft sigh, the only thing she could think of was that David, if he was really from Gallifrey, that he must have used a Chameleon Arch.
Someone not very good at telling time? That wouldn't have been possible for a Time Lord. Well, it was. But, it seemed that only very few had the unfortunate affliction to be bad with telling time. "Ah, You and a few people I know..." Romana stated and then nodded once. "I don't wear watches often either, You don't by chance own a fob watch, do you?" She asked, unable to keep her curious nature from poking through.
"To loose track of time is quiet easy." She stated with a somewhat bored tone. When she managed to flag down a waitress she asked for another cup of tea. "David would you like tea as well?" The Time Lady inquired.
