(pm me before replying if you are unsure) It was a hectic day for Ianto. He had gone out to run and do some errands and he had a run in with his sister Rhiannon and brother-in-law Johnny Davies caught him at the shopping mall. She convinced Ianto watch over her kids. He was stuck with his niece and nephew. He treated them to the movies, the arcade, food and he spent a fortune on them. Never wonder they loved their Uncle who seemed had no emotions. At the end of the day, Rhiannon claimed her kids and begged him to come by and visit. He was giving her the excuse he was busy. She joked he wasn’t busy when she caught him. It was one of those one million of a chance, Ianto told his sister and you lost your luck on your winnings on the lotto.
Few hours later, in the dark he was on the side of the road, his car died on him. The chirping of animals and insects could be heard from the woods. It was very dark outside because the clouds was blocking the light of the moon light.
He stood there front of his car with the hood up starting at and waiting for it fix itself. Well, that’s what it looked like if someone drove by. He tried to wiggle the wires, shake this and that but nothing seemed to prevail and fix it. He was tired thanks by babysitting his sister’s hungry rats. That’s how viewed them today.
His phone was not working either too. That was weird. The radio wasn’t working either. He had not thought there was something was wrong. He crossed his arms across his chest. He was alone. He was getting angry. He kicked it. “START YOU STUPID THING!” he yelled. A side nobody sees of Ianto. He was furious mad, he made fists. “Please…” he said softly, his hand going loose, he placed his hands on the hood. “Please…start.” He was in silence. Like that was going to work. It was nothing, but, he tried. He did not know enough about cars. It had gas. The oil was recently changed. The transmission fluid was filled. The radiator was good. It was like the car battery was dead… no it was not dead. The hood lights are on and the head lights are on but the radio was not working and his phone was not working.
He had one option, walk. He closed the hood, gone back inside the car to try one more time. The alternator turned but it was not kicking the juice. He banged his fists against the wheel. That hurt. “STUPID CAR!” he yelled and he was vulnerable. He was about to cry and fought the urge.
He took the keys and the papers so nobody can claim it. It was his car. It might vanish when he came back. If does survive this night. So there he was alone in complete dark. It was darker when he and Lisa went camping. In the distant there was a howl. That did not help his confidence. He needed to move because he was not going to sit there and wait.
Walking, it felt it was miles, but it was more a half mile. He was not used to walk long distant in the dark. He believed he knew where he was and he wished he was not there. It was a dead area with no traffic. It was a great short cut and now he wished he did not take this short cut.

Jack had been pulling another one of his all nighters, something he did pretty often lately. But this once he was actually needed elsewhere.
He had been alarmed by his watch with several beeps when the GPS of one of their vehicles went offline. Torchwood equipment didn't just fail all of a sudden.
And when he found out it was Ianto who had gone missing he nearly ran out of the hub. Coat flung around his shoulders as he hurried to a different car.
His blue eyes often flashed to his own GPS as he broke several speed limits. Not that he cared for them. Right now he was trying to get there as fast as he could. Cellphone in hand as he tried to call his favorite tea boy. "Come on Ianto...pick up.." Nothing.. Jack tried again, different feelings creeping in as his blue eyes stayed locked onto the dark road. "Pick up your phone Ianto!" he snapped into the cellphone.
He usually didn't freak out like this. But last time Ianto went missing he was captured by man eating hillbillies together with Tosh. And now his whole car had gone missing.
So naturally, Jack was freaking just a little. And the little became a lot when his own car decided to fail him. "What the...." he glared at the dashboard as if the car was doing it on purpose.
And after trying to get it to run for about fifteen minutes Jack just slammed the thing shut and took just his phone and gun with him. Not that his phone was working, there had to be something disrupting the energy signals.
He was lucky his watch wasn't from earth, it seemed to be working quite fine. It took Jack another ten minutes to finally find the black SUV in the darkness. His speed picking up as he rushed towards it. "Ianto!? IANTO!?" he yelled. Gun ready in case something decided to jump out and kill him.
It was however incredibly frustrating and terrifying to see that his favorite tea boy was nowhere to be found.

The wind was blowing up against Ianto’s back. It felt the wind was shoving him. When Jack called Ianto, the man stood tall like a deer staring head lights at night. He spun to look back in high hopes and was praying his imagination was not playing games. He couldn’t see the lights from the cars because he was walking down a slope. “JACK!” he yelled. Hearing Jack’s voice for the second time was a surety it was Jack. God, Jack was here to save the Coffee boy.
Running up against the wind and uphill, Ianto was on top. He was short on breath. He could see the hint of light the car. “JACK!” He yelled. Running fast as he can toward Jack, Ianto stopped as was looking at Jack’s silhouette. At first he wasn’t sure if it was Jack or it was a trick of the dark. It was Jack. Ianto threw his arms around Jack. He was feeling all warm because his emotions are taking a roller coaster trip. He can smell Jack. It was indeed his Jack.
His eyes stared at Jack’s car. The lights on the SUV was dead, Ianto notice Jack’s car’s lights are going dim. “Jack,” he said with tone of fear. “Look,” he pointed to Jack’s car. Something was wrong indeed. He waited to see what Jack had to say about this. He turned to look at Jack.

The call of his name in the close darkness made him snap to attention. His blue eyes scanning the dark area until they found the frame of Ianto. A big relieved smile appearing on Jack's face as Ianto's arms found their place around him. His own arms reacting to the familiar feel as he returned the tight embrace.
"Jesus..." he huffed into the man his shoulder, taking in a deep breath to take in the scent. "Ianto..." He wanted to tell him how freaked he had been for the past couple of hours. How crazy his mind had gotten with all those what ifs?
But it seemed his mind was needed elsewhere.
Ianto caught his attention, telling him to look back with a certain hint of fear in his voice. And out of reflex Jack raised his gun before turning around. The lights of his car dying slowly as darknes crept in.
"Let's not wait here..." There was something scary about lights slowly going out. Ghost stories of the past had warned him about that. There were dangers in the dark. But he doubted that the shadows of those stories were here on earth.

Ianto was not aware of all the folk stories Jack heard were true. Ianto knew some of those fairy tales are true. It seemed the ‘chosen’ girl and the pixies were real. And when Jack was talking about the fairies in the beginning, Ianto thought Jack was losing his lid. Then the fairies or pixies were changing the elements of the air. They were not leaving until they had the chosen. Jack had no choice to let the girl go. The mother must hate Jack. How many people hated Jack? Ianto looked at Jack. If all those people will hate Jack, Ianto will be there for the Captain. Ianto will make up the loss of pain that Jack had to take. Ianto devoted he will be there for Jack but he really never said it to the other man.
Ianto was startled when Jack pointed his gun at the car. It was a rush. Ianto enjoyed the rush of energy a little because Jack was always protective and used his gun to make a point. The immortal man was sexy looking with his sharp blue eyes staring at the headlights. And there was his great coat. It was who Jack was. His great, coat, smile, his blue eyes, his broad shoulders, his brown hair, his sharp angular jaw was very attractive. But it was not only Jack’s appearance that attracted Ianto. It’s how the immortal man reacts to the world around him. Jack is charming, protective and a father type. There was so much more about Jack that the tea boy couldn’t put his finger on it. Ianto just felt safe when he was near him. Jack was like Ianto’s jacket…as jack-et. “My phone is dead. I tried the radio. It was dead. And…” he was looking at the cars. Something was draining the power. He looked in the darkness. He was not sure if there was a house out there that lost its power. “I tried to call.” He followed Jack and he was staying close behind him. He hated the dark and being near Jack was a jacket of comfort.

The one thing stopping him from walking right back the way they came was the darkness that seemed to be closing in. The only light source obstructed with clouds and hidden underneath the sleeve of his coat.
“My phone is dead. I tried the radio. It was dead. And…” Jack kept his eyes where he was putting his feet. Waiting for something dangerous to either leap out or kill him without a warning. He also made sure that whatever would jump out would get him first. Jack wouldn't know what to do if Ianto got hurt.
“I tried to call.” the other broke the silence again and this time Jack stopped walking. Turning on his heels before looking him in the eyes. Those inhumanly but yet so earthly warm eyes. Jack could now actually say he loved him.
And he had felt love before, this however was the worst case of love ever. And he didn't want to see anything happen to this mortal man. "I know...I did the same" he smiled lightly, not one of his flirty or cheeky smiles. An actual warm, loving smile. At least until the serious part of his mind kicked in again.
"Now, let's just try to find out what's causing this massive power drain.." His warm smile turned into a thrilled grin.
Jack raised his wrist to eye level and flipped the watch open, glancing at the readings before turning towards the thick layer of bushes and trees. "This way.." he turned towards the tree line and started heading for the even darker path between the trees.

Nighttime, the wolves had an advantage. There was no light to spook them. They were extra tired. They were only animals and not know this. They are hungry. Sneaking through the woods, one of them noticed two men walking in the territory. They had enough light for them to see them in their vision. They could see clearly in the night like they can see at day. The seven other wolves froze and watched through the trees. Are they capable to take two? If it was one it would be easy. But two was a problem.
Ianto was following Jack. “I never like the dark,” he said, admitting. It was dark. He ripped over a torn piece of tire that was tossed in the grass from the road. “I can’t see….can you?” he asked. It was a good question to get to know Jack. No, Jack was not able to see in the dark. Jack used torches before for source of light.
“Are you afraid of the dark?” he had wondered about that about Jack. He had always wanted to know about Jack. How he can live by dying? It must be very painful. It killed Ianto to see Jack keep coming back from dying. It kept reminding Ianto something he was not capable to do. When Ianto dies, he will be leaving Jack. Ianto wondered day and night how Jack felt about Ianto's death. Would Jack remember him?

Jack carefully walked into the dark woods. Making sure he wouldn't lose Ianto by ocasionally glancing back. His blue eyes mainly locked on either the dark path in front of him or the little lights on his watch. How were they not being drained? Why was everything failing on them except for the vortex manipulator on his wrist?
“I never like the dark,” Ianto said. This causing Jack to smile lightly "There are reasons for that" his voice had lost it's serious tone. As if the situation they were in was nothing possibly dangerous.
“I can’t see….can you?” Again one of those questions which made him smile. "Yes, I got blessed with night vision along with my gift of not being able to die" he joked. In all honesty, Jack was having a hard time seeing things himself.
Then again, he had one factor which made it easier for him to walk around. He wasn't afraid of the things that could be waiting for him.
“Are you afraid of the dark?” This was however a question where Jack actually needed to think before answering. When alone Jack wasn't afraid of anything, not really. Simply because there was nothing that could get rid of him. But with loved ones around...the darkness could be scary as hell.
The immortal man stopped walking for a second, letting Ianto get close enough so he could grab hold of his hand. "There are enough reasons why I should be...but I'm not" He gave the man his hand a squeeze before starting to walk again. "Besides, It's never completely dark is it?" he smirked before raising his arm. The bright lights on his wrist still going strong.

Listening to the rhythm of his lover’s footsteps, Ianto knew that rhythm anywhere. It was a comfort to be with Jack. Jack was like the shepherd and Ianto was his sheep.
As they walked they held a small conversation. Jack answered Ianto’s comment about never like to be in the dark. There are reasons for that Jack was right.
"Yes, I got blessed with night vision along with my gift of not being able to die" he joked Ianto heard the sarcastic tone in Jack’s voice. The eye candy was now wondering if the immortal man was telling the truth. It was hard to know when Jack was serious or not. It drives everyone crazy in the team.
Ianto was keeping his blue eyes on Jack’s silhouette as they walked. He was quiet and Ianto was wishing he could read Jack’s beautiful face and his blue eyes as he was thinking or maybe he did not want to answer. It worried Ianto. He realized the dark question was a soft spot. The other man stopped, Ianto walked up to Jack. As Ianto got near Jack, the other man grabbed Ianto’s hand. First, Ianto’s heart stopped thinking they are in danger. He allowed his guard down for a second. There are enough reasons why I should be...but I'm not" It was a comfort as Jack squeezed his hands, starting to walk forward flashing his light from his wrist watch.
That’s when one of the wolves was in view, Ianto froze in silence. In his head he heard, ‘Sir there are wolves’, but he did not say it. The brush nearby was shaking as two slow aged wolves came out. In the minds of the wolves, they are young and fit but are not moving like it.
The Welsh man eyes looked at the light on Jack’s wrist band. He wished the light was bigger. Looking around in the area where Ianto was looking for a stick and he grabbed it. It was a small twig. It looked bigger and it turned out to be this long thin whimsy twig.

The moment Ianto froze, Jack raised his weapon. Aiming for the slowly moving beast that stayed undifined until Jack actually took a breath to think.
Wolves? What were they trying to pull? And why would something so old decide to attack two perfectly healthy human beings anyway?
Jack glanced at Ianto who seemed to grab a weapon, and couldn't supress the amused thought as the man held the thin stick as a weapon. "Gun on my belt Ianto..." Jack grinned lightly before he sharpened again.
Blue eyes hard as he gave the animals a glare. Why were they circling them? And would they actually be strong enough to even hurt them?

The Welsh man looked down at Jack’s gun. Ianto’s imagination went south for a trip. And it was something that was improper at the moment. Right, he said as he dropped the stick. Reaching and grabbing the gun from Jack, he put his back against Jack’s back as the wolves where slowly circling them.
He was never good controlling his breath in danger. He heard Jack in training and remembered how Jack was up close and…God, there he goes again. Feeling his hands shake, he took a breath to make it stop. Stop shaking he was thinking.
The leader wolf was the first to react as he leaped up at Ianto. The wolf was slow and Ianto pulled the trigger shooting the animal straight on and there was yelp. The other wolves slowly ran away fast as they can. The wolf killer stood there frozen staring at the furry lump on the ground. He kept his gun aimed at the dead wolf. Ianto did not believe he killed. He never killed an animal before. It was shocking. Beads of sweat slipped down Ianto’s face.
The wolf was indeed dead. He was all bone and he looked very old.

Jack could feel the warmth of Ianto's back seeping through the layers of clothes. A welcome warmth as he held his weapon aimed at the dangerous animals. Blue eyes sharp as he kept his eyes on them.
And the moment he heard something jump he moved. Twisting on his heels. Jack hadn't expected to hear a shot though, the man next to him shooting the old animal without a doubt.
Jack was stunned for a moment, watching Ianto as the wolves scattered. "Nice work.." he decided not to make it too big of a deal. Because Jack was stunned, he knew Ianto wasn't a fan of using a gun. Certainly not if there wasn't a good reason for it.
But this was great. "But why did it even try?" Jack kneeled down near the ancient looking wolf. It's fur grey and thin as he ran his fingertips through.

Narrator
The wolf fur was greyish, the wolf teeth are poor. The creature was obvious old. The drying grass around the wolf could be seen by the light from Jack’s wristwatch.
End Narrator
"But why did it even try?"
Ianto was kneeling down with his lover and he was still recovering from shooting the wolf. “It was desperate?” he said. The creature looked it was in bad shape and it was desperate to survive. The Welsh man felt he murdered a creature. The man waited for Jack to move on.

Desperate? Wolves might be desperate to feed. But this was odd, they usually didn't go for humans, let alone hunt charge first at this age. Old wolves didn't charge first...certainly not like this.
Jack got up to his feet again once he felt the heat leave the dead animal. Things were going fast, and it wasn't that cold outside. "Let's keep moving.."
Something odd was going on there. And it got even weirder when plants around them got browner and browner. As if time was speeding up as they walked deeper into the woods.
Dead plants and spider webs littering the woods as they moved into them. "How's this for a date?" Jack grinned as they came into a clearing. A little shed standing there, looking as if it dropped out of a horror movie.

"How's this for a date?" The man blushed and said nothing.
Following Jack, Ianto was back on guard. He saw the grass was brown and the shack was well aged. The wood was rotten and there was dead grass around the area.
Sir, Ianto said as he was checking the shack. He placed his hand on the door handle. He pulled the door opened and the door fell off the new shiny hinges. Inside the shack was dark, but they don’t see the dead rat lying on the floor. They don’t see the dead insects lying on the surface or the dead spider on the spider web.
