It was nice to hear he had permission to discover more of the world. And even nicer to hear her be interested in his world. He could show her his world, the majestic glass towers. The sands in which they stood and even the forests made of thin glass. But he didn't want to hurt her. So instead of overloading her mind with thousands of thoughts.
He just picked one view. His grip tightening on her hands as he leaned somewhat closer. The image of thin glass flowers, looking so fragile as they appeared around them both. The dark dusty room vanishing as he pulled Sarah Jane into his memory of the past.
Denatus had kept this memory, he wouldn't want to let it pass. The field of flowers, the cliff side and the city of gold in the distance. 'I hope I am not hurting you...'
The amount of information could hurt non telepathic beings. He was already keeping the image softer as usual. Not wanting to overload her mind as he gave her the memory.

Sarah Jane was entirely human. She was entirely not telepathic. What she was, though, was someone who had walked a hundred worlds. She had seen bright wonders and dark depths. She had, more than once, had a Time Lord walk through her mind. She had touched other psychic races now and then. Most of all, she had a grand curiosity.
Those smooth fingers gripped carefully tighter around her own, their palms pressing together as they both leaned in a little. Sarah Jane stared into the featureless shield of his translucent face, whimsically wondering if his thoughts would appear there like something on the telly.
Instead, she felt her eyes close of their own accord as she seemed to fall into him, though her body did not move except perhaps to curl her fingers even more intimately around his. And his world was suddenly all around her.
Flowers. Delicate. Fluted, springing. Colorless on their own, the sun reflecting off them sent soft, unpredictable rainbow splashes to color each other. She wanted to taste one. They looked like fanciful creations from Earth's greatest confectioner out of the purest blown sugar and light.
Then she saw the golden city on the cliff. The cliffs were clearly mineral, though they held startling patches of translucent rock that caught the light and turned it to glowing mist. The city itself looked like a toy from here. Like something a princess would have in her room. "I hope I am not hurting you. . . ." "Wha'-? Oh. No." She reassured him, uncertain if she spoke aloud or not. "Show me more, please! Take me to the city. Denatus Lux."

"Show me more, please! Take me to the city. Denatus Lux." To hear his name one someone else's mind again was a thrill. And the human language was stunning. Unlike anything he had ever heard before.
It was even more of a thrill to hear her eagerness, and that she might actually be able to take the tour. 'I shall be your guide miss Sarah Jane of earth' If he had been able to smile, he would have right then.
Taking her hand in the dream like world as he took a step into the warm field. The city of glass within their reach as he pulled the world in closer.
It was like in a dream, as if the real world didn't matter anymore. And this world of glass was all there was. Just the two of them in the grand city, buildings towering high above them. The only sound coming from their feet and distant memories the man of glass tried to forget.

He took her hand in that dream place, and suddenly she had a hand. A body. And Denatus Lux did as well, she saw as he stepped in from her peripheral vision and on to the field that she had seemed to hover above a moment ago. Now she stood upon it and in it much as he did.
Sarah Jane had a habit of trying to believe three impossible things before lunch. It was not to much of a challenge to believe that such a form of communication could be so. It was solid and fanciful as dream.
She knew she still stood in the attic in the old house on the hill. Keep standing, she thought to herself, trying to keep a thin line of consciousness going between mind and body. It worked, for when the glowing glass man beside her in dreams reached out and pulled them to the city, Sarah Jane gasped with wonder in both places.
Dream city spires, splendid. Created with passion, beauty, creativity. Abundance. She'd seen shadows of its like only the most sophisticated worlds. It was clear that art came first over industry. Or perhaps they had no idea how lovely their city was, and it was as natural for them as snails made shells.
"Denatus Lux," she turned to see the glass man against his glass city, "where are all the people?"

Denatus gently led the human through the silent city. The ocassional reflection of the sun showing just his reflection. As if Sarah Jane wasn't even there. This was a rule he had set for himself. Don't ever completely remember. He could get lost in his memories forever if he made them too good.
He hadn't expected her to ask for this though. Why there weren't any other Lux around. He wouldn't tell her though.
That he had been banished and didn't want to remember his own kind. 'I have no memories of them...' He lied. And the echo of voices was feint in the distance.
As if the ghosts of the past could not be seen but only heard. 'what else would you want to see?'

"I want you to show me your favorite place, Denatus Lux. Show me somewhere that brought you joy, or at least comfort." She implored, both giving his smooth hand a squeeze, and trying to feel her feet standing on the floor of the old house at the same time. She seemed to be standing up, so all must be well. She could feel it, but was mostly unaware as she stood there lit by warm and uncertain light from the being with whom she held hands. Pressed palms.
"How long has it been since you've been home?" Sarah Jane asked gently.

It was interesting that this human being seemed interested in the places he cared for. Denatus had shown his forgotten world to many other beings before. None of them so interested in his favorite places as they marveled at the grand and majestic city.
The glass man gave a simple nod before the view blurred and black smoke washed away the golden city. Revealing another view over the glass world. This time from outer space. The dream letting them stand in mid space as they hovered above the golden tinted planet.
Lucis wasn't a planet like any other, Lucis had been made. A planet built upon the living essence of the grand Lux. The glass surface serving as it's skin. This was why the core of the planet was just like the core of any of their kind. Pitch black smoke hinted with different colors.
'This is my favorite view of my planet....' his voice held a sad tone to it. The next question bringing back certain emotions which he couldn't hide in the dream state.
The universe around them seemed to darken 'Like many travelers....I have not seen my home in many years...' He casually forgot to mention that he wasn't able to go back either. That if he dared to come back without knowledge that he would be destroyed right on the spot.

Sarah Jane thought there could never be another planet as beautiful as Earth from space, and she'd seen many. Some had tried to rival Earth's beauty, but none brought her to tears like this one did. As Earth often did. She had always assumed it was something primal about one's own home planet. Now she knew it was more. Indescribable beauty. Like the eye of God, if God was everything and nothing she'd ever imagined.
Jewelers speak of gems having depth. Well, this glowing bauble in space had a planet's worth of depth. The eternal swirl within was absolutely hypnotic. She was instantly as fond of that as she was of Earth's clouds. Sunscatter beams floating, softly shimmering. Sphere of such perfection, sharply cut against the the misted depths of space. So overwhelmed was she, Sarah Jane forgot that what she was really doing was standing in an attic, her body started to crumple toward the floor. She did not notice.

The moment his new found friend buckled the darkness lit up. Reality breaking through the dream as the Lux took a step closer to keep her from hitting the floor. His hands finding their way around her waist as he held her up. 'I am terribly sorry..'
He had known this could happen, he shouldn't have shared so much. Denatus could have simply given her a single fragment, he did not need to give her the full deal.
'I should not have pushed you...'

For one startling, thrilling moment, she feels as though she might fall into the planet. It came toward her and seemed to embrace her. In that same instant she remembered where she really was and found herself in the arms of Denatus Lux, blinking tear wet lashes open to the soft dimness of the room that held only the light of her unexpected companion.
She laughed at herself for being like a kid who had tripped on her shoelace trying to reach for a piece of pretty candy. She sagged against the hard smoothness of the glass man, cheek pressed to his chest for a moment while she fit herself back into herself like a foot into a good boot.
"Don't worry" She said, laughing at her foolishness still and putting some starch in her knees with her will. "It was beautiful! I'm fine" and she was, having gained her full balance. There seemed to be no ill effect at all, no headache, no odd sensations. Well, except that after having the thrill of some sort of space travel for the first time in quite a while, the absolute normality of finding herself back in the dark old house was almost a let down. All she had to do though, was gently press away from Denatus getting a look at him again. She is smiling hugely. She hadn't lost that pretty planet, for there with shining, swirling, curling smoke contained in mobile, liquid glass was Lux.
"Oh!" She said with a breathless delight. "You have a beautiful face, Denatus."

It was a good thing to hear that the human in his arms didn't sustain any damage from his antics. That he didn't need to alter her mind or fix the things he broke. It would be a shame to know that he couldn't share his world with this one.
His head tilted slightly when the woman complimented him. Denatus, was unlike any other species. Not well known with compliments 'Thank you...you have a very strong mind'
That was something he learned, when someone else gives you a compliment he had to say something back. And it had to be truth.
But now that he had shown his world to the human race. He was curious to theirs. 'I must ask now....am I allowed to travel your world?'

'I must ask now....am I allowed to travel your world?'
His words made an echo in her mind. He'd said something like it before already, 'I have seen other humans...I have not yet gotten the permission to leave this mansion...' was what Denatus had said. She recalled that she had told him that he did not need permission. That, however, was not the same as granting it.
Sarah Jane had taken a couple of steps, intending to sit on a lovely little old round piano bench, but as she connected more of what he'd said, she stayed standing.
"Why must you ask?"

"Why must you ask?" She asked him a question he didn't really want to answer. But had to anyway. 'I must ask for discovering your world means I shall take samples of things....I do not want to break any rules...'
Once his kind had discovered a world, and they had taken their information with them. The inhabitants of that world nearly declared war with them for not asking.
Ever since then the Lux needed to ask if they were allowed to take anything with them.

She nodded at this revaluation, trying not to judge something she did not have enough information about. Some part of her had been on alert since Denatus had spoken of "discovering" the Earth, especially after she had already explained that the Earth was already well discovered by the people and animals that lived here.
However, his answer was mild enough that she did, now, sit on the little piano stool. A strange sensation lingered in her as it did when she roller skated for a few hours, then took them off. She had this feeling like any moment she could fall back into Denatus' homeworld.
"Well then, lets make sure you don't break any rules. Tell me more about what sort of things you like to sample, and how much substance you wish to glean from them."

'I want to learn about this world...both it's surface and inhabitants...' Denatus held up his hand, the smoke within sparking gold before turning pitch black. 'A single touch would suffice to give me knowledge...'
He had already learned the language and telepatic level by simply touching Sarah Jane her hand. And her mind had shown him his world and kind was welcome on the planet. And that he was allowed to learn more.
He just wanted to show her how he learned. 'Think of something and please...just touch my skin'
The Lux still held up his pitch black hand.
