Canon
Name: Sarah Jane Smith
Age: Born in 1948
Species: So very, very human.
Planet of Origin: Earth
Occupation: Traveling with the Doctor, she is his witness of all things beautiful and terrible. She is his council and companion. His monkey wrench and straight man. Investigating is her name, and saving the universe one troubled soul at a time is her game. She is also excellent at running, screaming, and standing her ground in turn, but these activities are more like hobbies, not occupations.
Physical Description: One must stand near to see that she is less than 5'5", for she quite upright in her small frame. Sarah is an outstandingly healthy creature, clear skinned, with her legs long and coltish strong. Her eyes are such dark hazel you could only ever see the sun or the stars in their depths. That, and her compassion. They are eyes open and welcome enough to fall into. Dark raven's wing hair, honey touched, frames her face with it's mobile, expressive mouth and high, wide, smooth cheekbones. She is as likely to put on a stiff upper lip as she is to light up in wide mouthed wonder. Her taste in clothing is best described as experimental, and neatly fitted, though hindsight being 20/20, she has learned there is nothing so good as a well structured jacket and a smart pair of boots. Good jeans.
High, delicately drawn brows can quirk near to question marks when her curiosity is piqued.
Personality: Vacationing endlessly with her best friend brings out the child in her. Just under the surface is a seasoned reporter and traveler time and space. When she is with him, there is a buoyancy to her spirit. Her smile is bright and impish. Though she can react unpredictably when the chips are down, she is a stalwart friend to the Doctor to the bitter end. She believes in him. Separated from him, she is as brave and determined as a soldier, but those heavy dark lashed eyes of hers become sad. Some of her bravery is because, deep down, she believes if ever a challenge is truly too great for her, the Doctor will come. He will come. He always does, though sometimes his timing is off. To alleviate any guilty feelings about having given up her public service as an investigative reporter, she consoles herself that she is still working for the side of good. She is a reporter because she likes to listen, to seek, and to learn. She likes to listen because she cares. She really cares about you.
History: Questions questions questions. From her very first words and then endlessly on. What else but investigative reporting? Who more interesting, ever, than the Doctor? It was the story to end all stories. People and places, the known and the unknown. First, she had joined him only for this. Then, it was for the adventure. The companionship. For him. Soon she found herself dropping the trappings of a traveling reporter, and simply became a Traveler.
When he was gone, she continued what she considered their 'work' but with a car instead of a TARDIS. And alone. She became a soldier first with a typewriter, then with a sonic lipstick, getting by with a lot of help from her friends. She is soldier for the underdog named Earth. Still, the adventure keeps her questions ever coming, and wonders that never cease. When she sees the wonder in the eyes of the upcoming generation, it makes this seemingly endless soldiering ever new. They reminded her to let herself be swept away by wonder. It is ever more important to her to keep the Earth safe and to keep them free. All in all, she wouldn't be missing this for anything on Earth.
