The Doctor frowned when he heard the story from Jamison. He glanced at Donna, feeling bad for treating her like that. It was true that he was highly stressed. He also wasn't sure which story was true, although he had the tendency to believe Jamison's. "So...do you believe they may have been plotting against you....asking about your political system and economy...."
He became more and more angry as he heard the details of the story.

Donna couldn't believe what she was hearing...well, she could, in a sense. The men's story had never rung quite true to her, and they didn't seem like the type to...but...tortured three boys to death was a monstrous thing to do...and wow was it a good thing that they got away as they did...
Donna waited for Jamison to answer the Doctor's question.

"That's the theory. At first we didn't believe it, until we found evidence of a cover-up job. At first we thought that the kids just disappeared, but when we were denied our own investigation of the burned-down facility, we knew something was up," Jamison said. "But we had our proof when they attacked our turellium mines. It crippled our economy for years."
(Only one got away, Donna)

(yeah but he died as a product of the torturing, so I figured I'd lump them together, especially since she wasn't saying it out loud to anyone, but if you'd like me to change it I can)
"Turellium?" Donna asked, aiming it at either one of the men.

The Doctor stared at the man. "Right....so the question is what did they want by starting a war with your planet? What resources does your planet have that they could use? What is it that they wanted?" He ran his fingers through his hair.
"But if they really thought that we were spies, why would they lie to us? They had to have figured out that your people have learned of the truth."

"They think they can convince anyone. That's part of why they are still fighting. They want people to believe their lies, just like they convinced their own people of them," Jamison said to the Doctor.
He looked at Donna. "Turellium is our key mineral. We use it to make almost everything we trade. It's what our planet is known for."

"Well that would answer what they're here after..." Donna clenched her teeth. "So basically they want to ruin your whole way of life for a mineral..."

The Doctors shook his head and asked Jamison, "In what way did they damage the industry? If they wanted it for themselves, it would have had to be something that was repairable, or only a partial damage....or....or...something that would be salvageable, but if not...if not...then they were after something else."
The mineral was a possibility, certainly, but they most likely wouldn't permanently damage something that they wanted for themselves.

Jamison looked between the two. "Not exactly. It's all about competition. They have similar goods, and they were and are in a sort of recession of economy. Of course, the war drove away almost all business. We've been trying to figure out how they keep funding their side."

The Doctor nodded, "Yes...a war of this magnitude....perhaps they are exploiting another planet...or I don't know...." He looked right at Jamison. "And how are your people doing?" He continued to follow Jamison, wondering whether or not this man had told them the full story. He had a feeling that there was more. After all, this man had said it wasn't safe to discuss things...so...

Donna kept following and taking everything in, but had nothing to say; she wanted to hear everything before she spoke again.

Jamison looked back at him, a sort of sadness to him. "We'll be fine when the war is over. Either we are gone or we win. Either way, the fighting would be over and we won't have to worry about constant bomb threats or abductions." He looked ahead again. Finally they were reaching, what looked like, the end of the passageway.

The Doctor frowned, "War doesn't always solve everything.....they may not stop until they have either enslaved you or killed your people." He looked at the man with a serious expression as he continued following after him. He began to slow down a bit as they neared the end of the passage.

"I know," Jamison said. "We all know. But if it's between being peaceful and enslaved, or fighting and free, which is the best outcome. We have suffered great losses. Recently, many officers' wives were taken, to try to dissuade them to fight or to persuade them to turn against their own people."

The Doctor nodded, infuriated by these people. He asked, "How much further until we reach the place you had in mind?"
He glanced back at Donna to make sure that she was keeping up.
