The Doctor laughed lightly at Donna's comment. "You forget that the TARDIS translates for you, Donna...and although you think you're speaking English, it sounds to them like you're speaking their language."
Finally spotting the door that would take them below, he looked at her and grinned. "And there it is!" He rushed in the direction of the door, expecting Donna to follow.

Donna rolled her eyes at the excited Doctor, and followed after him. "Yea, the Tardis translates, but it's not going to fix my pronunciation, is it?"
Following the Doctor, Donna jogged down the steps two floors before she stopped in front of another door, hands on her hips, and let out an exasperated breath. "Can't we just use the elevator?" Turning, she opened the door and stepped inside the building.

"Actually, it should sound like you are pronouncing words correctly, to them," the Doctor told Donna.
"Taking the elevator? Where would the fun be in that?" the Doctor added when he heard her question. The Doctor stepped inside the building as well. "Now, I'm not exactly sure what building this is....but I have this." He pulled out the psyhic paper. The place seemed to be quiet, but he wasn't sure if that was because the office was closed for the day, if the staff people in that section of the building were in a meeting, or if people just didn't come up to that floor very often.

"Actually, it should sound like you are pronouncing words correctly, to them," the Doctor told Donna.
"Really? I can botch up people's names and they won't have a clue? Where was this on my first day of temping?" she asked rhetorically, speaking more to herself.
"Taking the elevator? Where would the fun be in that?" the Doctor added when he heard her question.
"The fun in that?" Donna said as she looked around the corridor she found herself in. "Taking the stairs down the tallest building in the city may be fun for you, alien boy, but I'd rather save my energy for when we get to the streets."
Donna looked over as the Doctor pulled out his psychic paper, then started moving around the corner, off to find the elevator. It was the second corner she rounded that put her smack-dab in front of 3 large men armed with guns - guns that were quickly aimed at her.
Not blinking, she slowly raised her hands. "Everytime..." she mumbled.

The Doctor ran off after Donna, stopping abruptly when he saw the men with the guns pointed at Donna. "Excuse me," he spoke up, trying to get the men's attention. "There must be some sort of mistake. We're the safety and elevator inspectors." He nodded at Donna, hoping that she would understand that he was about to use the psychic paper.

Donna waited for the Doctor to show the psychic paper, not daring to say a word or make a move. The men did not look up.
"The safety and elevator inspectors?" one repeated with a sneer.

The Doctor nodded, "Yeah." He took out the psychic paper and showed it to the man.
A man further up the hallway noticed the commotion and decided to join the group. "What's going on here?" he asked one of the men.

The man seemed to be armed and in military uniform and followed by several more.
The one that had seen the psychic paper said, "They claim to be safety and elevator inspectors."

Colonel Henry Kradston was standing in front of the desk with a map on it, plotting the courses of every soldier from both sides, looking for whatever advantage he could use for his side. He watched, working out the opposition's strategy.
A general came up to him. "What's the status?"
Kradston looked up at the General, refusing to salute, like the others. "You're an idiot, that's the status. You're sending your people to the wrong points. You're falling for obvious traps."

The man who had originally asked the question stared blankly back at the other one. "Was anyone here informed of a scheduled safety and elevator inspection that was to be taking place? How do we know that they are not spies?"
The Doctor said nothing, waiting to see what sort of response these men would give the man. He needed to learn as much as he could about their current situation. He glanced at Donna and tried to give her a reassuring smile.

"There was not, Captain," one of the men said. "We do not know for sure, hence my saying claim."
*** "What?" the General demanded.
"You're sending your men against my instructions. Why did you bring me out here if you were not going to follow what advice I give you?" Kradston asked, rather rude.

"How is that man trying to verify his claim?" the Captain asked the other. ______ At this, the Doctor chose to speak up, "If you don't mind my saying, we are the elevator and safety inspectors." He held up the psychic paper for more of the men to read.

Donna took a chance. "Do we look like spies?" She really hoped they didn't...

"Remember who you're talking to Colonel..." the General threatened. "At the time we believed it was necessary. You didn't take everything into account..."

"That's what he has to 'verify' his claim," the little man said.
***
"You are part of the Military now, don't complain about your post," a voice said.
Kradston looked around and smirked. "Hello, Lieutenant Branstone."
The officer smirked back. They went way back.

The Doctor showed the little man his psychic paper. "There is our authorization -- you see, we really are the elevator and safety inspectors."
The Captain frowned, "One can't be too careful in these times. How do we know you aren't also working for Kradston?"
The Doctor looked at the Captain, "Kradston....now why would I be working for him?"

Donna said nothing, not wanting to stick her foot into a sticky situation. She did however file away all the information she was taking in. Guns. Spies. Captain. Kradston...
