"I would imagine so," the first soldier said as he got the engines running.
"But we hope not," the second said as he got in and closed the door. He smiled at the two while the first was busy. "Name's Caletri."
The vehicle started to rise above the surface.

"Well, I'd think that if they DIDN'T have a similar form of technology, you would detect them.....so....how long has this war been going on, again?" Ten asked the men.
"Oh, and I'm the Doctor....and this is Donna."
The Doctor felt the vehicle begin to rise from the surface. "So....does this fly...or does it just squat near the ground when not moving?"
He sat back, relaxing a bit, getting ready to enjoy the ride.

"It flies, of course. Got a few thousand miles to cover," Caletri said. "You really aren't from here are you?" He had a big grin on his face.

"Nope, we're...well actually, I don't know exactly how far from here we are." Donna looked at the Doctor.

Caletri looked over at the Doctor to see what his reply would be.

The Doctor shook his head, eying both Donna and Caletri, "No, we're a long way from Donna's home planet....a very long way, in fact. The other side of the universe. And my home planet no longer exists....but it is quite a distance away from where that planet once was. I haven't exactly been in this part of the universe before...well, at least this planet or the immediate surrounding ones....as long as I have the right planet in mind as to where it is located....this wasn't exactly the planet that I had thought we'd be landing on. "
He relaxed some, expecting to be in flight very shortly.
He grinned back at the man who had spoken to him.

Caletri smiled at them both. "So you two are valid aliens. Wow. I never thought you would look just like us." He looked between them. "So what are your planets like? Are they like this one? Are they in war or in peace?"

The Doctor stared at Caletri a moment, a pang of sadness washing over him. Caletri obviously hadn't been there when he had talked with Jamison, and none of the information had been passed along to him. The Doctor wouldn't have expected that information to have been passed along to him, anyway.
"My planet's gone now....we were in a war, and we lost it -- the Last Great Time War. The Daleks came and....and...well, my planet is gone. There was no choice. It burned. It was a beautiful planet -- orange sky, slopes of red grass caped with snow. The trees had silver leaves...."
He looked away, a few tears sliding down his cheeks. He didn't feel like commenting about the basic human shape, and Time Lords being the first. If he thought of it later, he would.

Caletri frowned softly. "I... I'm so sorry... That must have been why Kradston wanted to talk to you. Your experience with war." He looked to Donna, hoping her planet wasn't in such a bad state.

The Doctor eyed Caletri and nodded, "It was a long time ago....and yes...that is probably the reason that he wanted to see me. I'm honestly not sure what sort of help that I can be.....but I do not want to see a second Dalek race created. The Daleks were brought about by a war very much like this one....but their war was probably longer than this one. How long has this war been going on again? Jamison may have told me...but....."
He stopped talking when he realized that Caletri was probably waiting for an answer from Donna. He looked at her as well, wondering how she would choose to answer the question.

"I haven't exactly been in this part of the universe before...well, at least this planet or the immediate surrounding ones....as long as I have the right planet in mind as to where it is located....this wasn't exactly the planet that I had thought we'd be landing on. "
Donna looked at him, her eyebrows knit together before she smoothed her face out.
Planet? I thought we'd just gotten the time wrong...Not now...I'll ask him about that later."
He looked to Donna, hoping her planet wasn't in such a bad state.
"My planet's...well I guess it's complicated..." Donna paused, having trouble explaining it in reference to another completely different war and planet. "The whole planet isn't at war, but there's a war going on between, essentially, two countries...the other countries try to stay out of it or help...though not many have helped...and not everyone in the countries fight...many of them don't even agree with the war." Donna paused again. "It's nowhere near as catastrophic as the Doctor's planet, nor as dire as yours...but it has claimed a lot of lives."

The Doctor glanced at Donna and supplied some of his own information. "Earth is a planet that....that is very unique. However, there is always at least one war going on somewhere on the planet.....often more than one at once. Not all humans hear about all of the wars....it can be violent, but then there are plenty of countries that are also at peace.....at most points in the planet's history most of the countries are peaceful.....but there have been several world wars...."
He glanced at Donna, knowing that she was having a difficult time explaining it. "Although, I do enjoy that place....I would have to say that it is my favorite planet...if I had to pick."
He grinned. "Humans."

When the Doctor glanced her way, having explained much better than she had, she flashed him an appreciative look, though she was a bit embarrassed by not being able to adequately explain her own planet...it was much more complicated than she had ever thought though, to explain the planet she had been living on for all her life. For some reason, she had thought that all other planets functioned like Earth, but of course they didn't...that would be preposterous with all of them out there.
"Although, I do enjoy that place....I would have to say that it is my favorite planet...if I had to pick."
He grinned. "Humans."
Donna grinned back, knowing he had a soft spot for her species.

Caletri smiled. "I'm very glad you have peace, then." He chuckled and shook his head, looking out the window in thought a moment. "War and peace coexisting on one planet. It really is phenomenal... almost miraculous..."
He looked at the two and smiled again. "We'll be landing soon. I'm going to go check on Yulef." He carefully got up and headed for the cockpit.

When Caletri was gone and out of earshot, Donna turned to the Doctor.
"I thought you said we'd gotten the planet right, just the time wrong."
