Six smiled kindly at Eight's anger. No, no, I understand. I do apologize. I understand you're probably just disguising our true beauty in this time period, he realized. Of course it's not good. It's never good when somebody follows us around with a fake name. It's either trouble or, well, trouble.
He watched with some detatchment as Eight continued to speak to the girl, and once he was addressed he perked up. Yes, it is probably something to do with him. They were together earlier, but it seems that the man dropped her for another lady.
"Offer your condolences if you wish, but they aren't neccessary," Susan eyed the man critically. "He died bravely, and for a good cause. It's not hard on me, sir. I know that he loved me, and I loved him, and that's all we need from life," she put her hands behind her back, clenching her fists.
When Tyler answered him that answer - out loud, of all things! - Six winced. Not only was it a blatant, bold-faced lie coming from his brother, but it was also out loud. At a party. In a quiet party. In front of the girl that had been following him. "Ah, yes. I've heard Japan is quite like another planet," Six smiled at his brother kindly.
As Tyler sent out that bit of helpful advice, Six huffed slightly and narrowed his eyes at Susan. "Who are you and why are you following me?" he demanded, annoyed by her lack of cooperation.
"You don't keep up easily do you, sir?" she asked with a small smile. "My name is Jane Doe, and I wonder why you assume that you are the one I'm following? Perhaps you have guilty conscience?" she tilted her head curiously, but then returned her gaze to the floor. "Forgive me, sir, but I don't take kindly to interrogations."
Six bit his tongue harshly and moved so that his brother was inbetween himself and 'Jane'. Harm is going to befall on that woman if she mocks me once more, he snapped to his future incarnate and brother.

Tyler shook his head at Six. "No....it wasn't the planet Japan....where is is the planet Japan located? I don't think I've ever heard of it. I was thinking it was the planet Dysportesyrtholr."
In order to make the lie believable, he had to mention a planet he'd actually been to.
Tyler sent Six another message, "Well....I don't know how humans are supposed to act. Maybe that's their way of making friends...." He smiled at Susan. "And where are you from?"
Tyler hadn't known that his comments about planets had been overheard by one of the guards. He stared at the whole group suspiciously. He then quickly left where he had been posted in order to consult with a superior. As he made his way over to his superior, he gestured and pointed in the direction of Tyler.

At first Kyra was keeping up, but she found herself lost again as he mind wandered. She sighed mentally. Of course it would hit now. Now when she had people around her to gawk and stare and jeer if she fessed up to her inner-most thoughts. It wasn't as rough as it was on Gallifrey, but it was enough to remove her from conversation. She quickly tried to catch up, pretending to have been listening the whole time.

Eight also winced, still mentally of course. He hadn't told Tyler of his decision to allow the Sixth the truth! Why wan't he thinking straight? And why was this headache suddenly creeping up to pound on his left temple? He rubbed it absently as he tried to correct the oversight.
I'm sorry, Tyler. I forgot to add you along with the message. I went ahead and told this fellow who I really was. It, as usual, almost cascaded into an arguement. It's strange how I seem to argue with my selves over the years much more than I have ever argued with you when we were boys. He gave a rueful smile. Well, that fight we did have over my 'borrowing' one of your favorite books and leaving it out in the rain still heads the list! He rubbed his temple again. And I am getting the most abominable headache! he complained to both of them. He heard the Sixth's grievance about the girl who introduced herself as Jane Doe and almost laughed.
Oh yes, being mocked was one of the sore points he had at that time. Bantering and insults were one thing, he could always deal with those and brush them off. But mockery? He would rather deal with Daleks! Yes, Jane Doe was certainly treading on thin ice here!
He grew aware that their conversation seemed to have excluded Gertrude. He gave her one of his most winning smiles. "I'm sorry, we didn't mean to leave you out of all this!"

"Ah, but I'm the boring one here, sir. I would much rather hear of your trips to Dysportesyrtholr and where you are from," Susan smiled. She had already had her suspicions about the group not being human; this was just more easy evidence. Her eyes strayed to the guards that had been looking at them and she took a step back cautiously.
Six ran a hand across his jaw. Tyler was just digging them into a deeper hole, and he didn't even seem to notice. She's not being nice and trying to be a friend, she's mocking you! he answered, trying to keep from losing his temper at his brother. She's lying, mocking, and... and.. mocking! He glanced at his future incarnation with a slight frown.
Headache? Do you get them often? It would have been uncharacteristic for him to show that amount of concern outwardly, but then one would realize that it was, really, concern for himself. We should be going anyway. It looks as though a guard is suspicious.
Susan tilted her head at Gertrude. "Perhaps she's angry with the fake name you gave her?" she suggested to Six.
The Doctor shut his eyes and thought of kittens. Calm, cute little napping kittens. Meow. Meow meow. Meow. This is not going to end well for her, or for my conscience.

Tyler received Eight's message and frowned. "Well, it would have been good to know that.....so he knows that I lied.....hmmm....well......all right then.....what regeneration number are you, anyway? I know that he is Six....but what are you? Oh...and are you ever going to replace that book for me?"
Ten felt tickles in the back of his neck.
Tyler smiled at Susan. The human wanted to know about his trip to Dysportesyrtholr. "Well, really....I don't know what you'd like to know about my trip there.....and......it was a business trip....Do you ever get off this planet much? And I'm from..."
He wasn't aware how much humans traveled, or where their favorite vacation spots were, but he was interested to know. It was also at that moment that he received Six's message.
He frowned when he heard that Susan was mocking him. "Oh, I see....never mind," he said in a deflated tone. "You're not really interested, are you.....you're just mocking me."
Tyler stared at Susan. "How....how did you know it was a fake name. All right....her name is Kyra.....and my girlfriend....I'm not sure why my brother called her Gertrude...but it isn't her name. Stop mocking us...go away."
He said that more for the sake of Eight so that at least he would know who she was. Tyler then glared at Susan, not appreciating this person at all.

Issildia moved swiftly and steadily, her eyes fixed on the Torchwood Agents that had moved into the crowd to pursue them. She made it no mystery that she had sighted them, and her gaze conveyed this in a dangerous stare back into their copper eyes. Still she moved as they turned toward she and the Doctor at a steady walk, their hands set to their blades.
She made a line for that simplistic corridor where the servers were emerging with trays in the hope that the kitchen lay beyond. If her supposition was correct there would be a way to reach the upper levels from that delightful smelling room and slip past Torchwood's quickly closing net
Issildia glanced back with the faintest trance of worry towards the Doctor, her azure eyes glinting amid the candlelight before turning back to the path ahead.
Coppery skirts rippled about her ankles as she whipped around the corner into the hall which quickly ended at a large door less threshold that opened up into a massive room filled to the brim with brick ovens and open cooking fires along with several pine wood tables where the dishes were being completed for the feast to come. The scents of roasted quail and rosemary wafted over Issildia, the woman snorting faintly to get the overpowering scents out of her before it made her sense of smell useless.
The briefest glances were all that the wait staff gave the duo as they watched the gold clothed lady and the accompanying gentlemen slip into the kitchens. Bodies bustled about, loading trays with food and drink as Issildia looked sharply at the Doctor before gesturing with her hand towards what she had sought.
Thankfully the device was not to be used this night, whereas normally the dumbwaiter would be used to ferry trays of food to the upper level and the waiting rooms of the manor's guests. The small lift was one of the larger sort, big enough to accommodate a crouched man within the wooden box.
Issildia wasted no time as she crossed the last few yards at a jog whilst the serving staff began to lift up heavy trays piled high with food to deliver to the banquet tables outside in the dining room.
As the room began to empty, the huntress knew that she and the Doctor had less than a minute to escape the kitchens before their pursuers got past the rush of waiters leaving with their lovely smelling cargo.
"This is not going to be pleasant." She muttered as her hands moved up to slide the dumbwaiter's panel aside to reveal the empty interior. Moving up as close as she could to the lift Issildia reached inside towards the simple panel of unpainted pine that served as the roof of the minuscule elevator. Several loud bangs echoed through the quickly emptying kitchen as she popped the wood covering out of place by snapping the carefully placed wood pegs with a few solid hits. Frayed splinters dug into the base of her palm as Issildia was finally rewarded with a softer scrapeing noise as the panel collapsed down to reveal a long narrow lift shaft that reached up to the second and third floors. Thick cables hung down from the upper reaches of the house where they had previously connected with the top of the dumbwaiter.
Frowning with distaste for the uncomfortable climb ahead Issildia motioned to the Doctor, her eyes uneasy as they continued to linger on the entrance to the kitchen, her ears picking up the faintest sound of rapid footsteps. Her Torchwood pursuers were close.
"Get in." Issildia ordered sharply as she turned fully towards the kitchen exit, expecting to sight the telltale red guard uniforms any second.
"We have long way to climb, and time is not our friend tonight Doctor..."

Kyra looked up as she was spoken to. She smiled softly and shook her head. "It's quite alright."
That was when she heard Susan and Tyler. She tugged at Tyler's sleeve and gave him a look that said 'What are you doing?!'

I'm the Eighth, this is my 7th regeneration. I know I know, I'm wearing myself out but let's just call it an occupational hazard Eight answered Tyer's questions. Yes I should have told you immediately but as I said, it almost went into an arguement. Six is rather touchy at things, as I recall, and quick to start things. And I don't even remember what that book was, was it a picture book or a school book? Hmm. It's been so long. I do remember that fight though. You bloodied my nose!
To his Sixth version(and wondering why he caught a fleeting glimpse of small furry purring forms): They've been getting worse in the past few years. It has something to do with a past head injury, a concussion perhaps. I can't seem to remember. All I can do is tolerate them and yes, the guard seems to be moving in our direction. Shall we go see what's in the appetizer line?
He raised an eyebrow at the statement 'Jane Doe' made. "Why would she be angry, Gertrude is an old distinguished name. Anyway some secrets are made to be kept and not chipped away at. Are you a reporter or something of that sort?" He wasn't too fond of reporters, Earth reporters especially. They always wanted to delve into his business no matter when and where he encountered them or in whatever incarnation! They reminded him of a barrage of clucking curious hens.

Susan frowned. "I most certainly was not mocking you, but if it appears that way then I do apologize," she said politely with a quick curtsy. "I am interested. Where did you say you were from?" she prompted curiously.
Her eyebrows lifted as he explained the name. She had known it was a fake name, but she hadn't quite expected the stranger to be so forward. "Well, your reactions were quite obvious. You're not a very good liar, sir, if you don't mind me saying," she replied truthfully. Her words weren't meant to be malicious; Susan was just a little blunt about things.
As he told her to go away she took an obedient step backward, and frowned when the other man began to speak to her. "You give me entirely too much credit, sir. I'm not nearly as ruthless as a reporter," Susan responded. It seemed that the group was sending her strong signals to get away from them, so she took another step back.
[ooc| didn't have any Six muse. hardly any Susan, hence the reason she's a bit docile in this post. -wanders away in shame-]

The Doctor glanced from Issildia to where she had told him to get into. Hesitating for only a second, he climbed in. "Well, I do have my sonic screwdriver," he commented to Issildia.
The screwdriver had worked on pulley systems before, but then those might have been computer operated. He thought specifically of when he had encountered an alien who had a sonic pen -- the time in which he had met up with Donna for the first time after her failed wedding.
He glanced back at her as he climbed in, grabbing the wire like ropes. "Do you think a sonic screwdriver will work?"
____________ Tyler felt the tug on his sleeve and shrugged. Six had met humans before and knew what to say to them and how to treat them.
Tyler smiled at the memory of blooding his brother's nose because of the book. "Well, how old were we?"
To Jane's question, Tyler answered, "Gallifrey.....I'm from Gallifrey. And....well, if you're not mocking me.....I.....sorry for misunderstanding......you don't have to go away. I'm...I"m very bad with interacting with humans. This is my first time on Earth."
He heard Eight's question and nodded, "That...or maybe we should just leave....I....I'm horrible at this....talking to humans...."
The guards were not in range to hear any of his comments, but they were all signaling to one another, trying to decide what to do. It was possible that another alien was there, and Torchwood's job was to eliminate aliens. Since the Doctor was there, it was possible that he was with the Doctor.
One of them approached the group and asked, "Who are you and where are you from?" His question was directed at Tyler, Six, Susan, and Kyra.

"Who me? Oh, well....." Eight looked down at his feet and appeared abashed. "I'm afraid we've been caught, chaps. We're from the university down the other side of town and I made a bet with my mates here," He gestured at Tyler and Sixth. "That we could attend any party we happened to pass by and not get noticed! This one was the first one the cab came across so we just hopped off and came in. But...you noticed us! I lost. Very well!" Here he straightened out and put on a noble air. "We shall now withdraw and I shall pay off what I owe. Come along!"
Turning, he added to Sixth. "I told you that coat would alert everyone! Will you never listen?" To Tyler "Oh bring your date along too. No use leaving her behind. Perhaps we could find a nice pub somewhere near?"Hopeful his act would be enough to at least allow them to get within darting distance of the doors he started to walk off.

The guard frowned at Eight's behavior. Perhaps this fellow knew the Doctor as well. He rushed after Eight to get into his path. He whispered to him, "Now, I heard that there was alien talk here.....would that be true? Do you know of any aliens or anyone who has visited other planets, perhaps. If you know of anyone, we would be most interested. The Queen is offering a large monetary reward. You could be inducted into the Torchwood Institute....yourself....just a bit of information is all that we are asking."
Tyler glanced at Kyra. "Guess we should follow him....?"

Eight raised an eyebrow at the guard's whispering. The Queen was interested in aliens? At this time period? He wasn't sure just what he was talking about so he decided to fall back on one of his tried-and-true methods, act an ignorant human.
"Aliens? Alien talk? Are you refering to foreigners? If that's the case I imagine there's plenty here for you to choose from! And just what is this...this Torchwood? A special gentleman's club?"

Susan's eyes widened as he said that he was from Gallifrey. She swallowed thickly, trying to calm herself down. There was a distinction between Gallifreyan and Time Lord, but the man couldn't have simply been Gallifreyan. However, if he were a Time Lord then her grandfather's statement was inaccurate. She rubbed her temples and forced thoughts of paradoxes behind her, knowing that it would ruin her cover if she looked too stricken by his words.
Six bristled as his future incarnate answered the guard. "My coat? The only one that surpasses me in fashion here is the mother herself!" he grumbled, straightening his jacket indignantly. He followed himself (hmm, those tricky personal pronouns were really going to cause him so trouble in the future) and beckoned for Tyler and Kyra to come along.
His hearing pricked as he heard the guard whispering. Even with his heightened sense of hearing, he could hear only a few choice words: aliens, the Queen, monetary reward, and information. He walked closer to Eight and the guard and grinned as he heard the quip about a gentleman's club. However, he decided not to join the conversation (and potentially destroy any story Eight was devising) and to continue out of the building.
