Kyra frowned at Six and put her hands on her skirted hips. "Now really?" She wasn't about to let herself be hoisted up into the window by her boyfriend's brother while wearing a dress. Last she checked, she was still wearing her Gallifreyan robes. "Are you sure there isn't another way to get in? Or perhaps I could come in last?"
*** NY 1889
As Will and Brenna walked through the rooms of the flat, the odd noise stopped. Will peeked into one of the rooms... it was dust-covered and rather empty, with exception for a rather clean-looking wardrobe. He looked to Brenna and they exchanged puzzled looks before returning to the room. Brenna opened the door with a creak and peeked her head inside.
"You sure it was coming in here?" she asked, unsure that the sound could have really come from here because there was nothing that could have produced such a sound, that she could see.
Will stuck his head out above hers. "I'm sure of it... but where...?"
The door of the wardrobe creaked open a bit and the two quickly took their heads back and closed the door just enough that they couldn't be seen.
A brunette man stepped out of it and stuck his hand back in... taking out a woman with very short ginger hair. He looked at her as if she had made a mistake.
"Well, James, it would look a bit ridiculous to land it in the middle of the street," the woman said after seeing the man's look. She looked around the room. "Okay, so I was a few years off. It'll still look better than it will in 25 years." She turned around and locked the wardrobe.
"I know, I know, I was just teasing you," the man, identified as James, said, pulling her to him. "It's not the Ritz, but who am I to complain?"

Tyler glanced at Kyra, confused. "But if it is their custom....it wouldn't be good to insult them." He glanced at his brother. "But if she is uncomfortable....is there another way in. Didn't you pick something up that allowed you to sneak into places -- what did you call it -- psychic paper or something?"
If his brother used the stuff in that regeneration, perhaps that would be a more friendly way to proceed. He didn't know, though, so he would wait to hear from him. He knew that his brother didn't use a sonic screwdriver in every regeneration. Perhaps the same might be true of the psychic paper.
Also, he didn't wish to make things uncomfortable for Kyra.

The Doctor raised his eyebrow as she put her hands on her hips. "Uh... really." He said lamely, not catching on to the reason why she wasn't doing anything. At her last few questions he shrugged his shoulders and turned his attention to his brother.
"Paper." He repeated, digging in his coat pockets. "I haven't used that since... since..." He couldn't recall a time where he used it recently. His fingers grasped the wallet from deep within and pulled out the leather binding. "Yes, well, takes out all the adventure." He muttered, walking back to the guard.
He held up the piece of paper to the guard and was accepted (after a short greeting from the obviously bored guard) entrance.

Elizabeth shifted uncomfortably. "I heard that it was meant to protect her from... unknown persons. Not Africans." She looked at the two with an embarassed smile. "I didn't hear a rumor from whom, but I find it odd she would increase her protection after a war when she didn't feel the need to during." She lowered her eyes. "I shouldn't be saying things like this." Elizabeth stared at them anxiously.
Susan held up a hand mildly. "We won't tell."
[ooc| Elizabeth says 'not Africans' because since we didn't really say the year, I'm putting this in 1881 which is the end of the first Boer War. The British barely won (read also: they didn't win, but the Brits are too stubborn to admit it). >_> Anyway, Tooth and Claw took place in 1879 (the year of the Zulu War, which the Brits lost). So in the Queen's timeline, it'd be two years after Tooth and Claw. :D

Kyra followed Six, smiling at Tyler. "Thanks," she told him. She looked around at their surrounds. She honestly didn't care if she looked out of place.

Tyler smiled back at Kyra and responded, "You're welcome." He followed Six and Kyra, secretly humming to himself. He was on another planet with Kyra.
He watched the exchange between the guards and his brother. Studying them, he thought to himself how bored they appeared. He knew how psychic paper worked, and he wondered to himself how they had been identified by the paper. Perhaps he would find out shortly. ________ Ten nodded at Elizabeth. "Right...the war...." Knowing Earth history fairly well, he thought he knew which war that she was talking about. "I agree that it is odd that she would want protection after the event, but perhaps she knows something that we do not. Still, it would be best for her if she protects herself after wars. There is usually another war looming on the horizon."

NY 1889
Will and Brenna looked at each other, puzzled. These two didn't seem to be from around here... and what were they doing in a wardrobe? ...Will could venture a guess, but he wasn't going to say anything on those sorts of matters.
The ginger woman looked to the man called James adoringly. "Are you going to give me some cheesy pick-up line now? You know you already have me, right?"
"I know, but if I don't use them on you, Clara, then how would I ever get to say them?" James asked in reply as he held her close to him. "I think we need to get into costume, they'd pick us out immediately in these clothes, especially you."
Clara smirked a bit, then pulled him back to the wardrobe.
Brenna turned to Will and said quietly, "I think we should get out of here."
Clara, with her Time Lord hearing, heard the low speech and paused. "Crap," she whispered as she moved more quickly, her smirk wiped clean from her face, replaced with the expression of someone who made a huge mistake.
"What is it?" James asked, noticing her alarm.
Will noticed too. "How did she hear us from way over here?" he asked Brenna, testing this person's hearing ability.
Clara looked to James and put her ips to his ear, whispering, "Two, near the door. I don't know how much they saw."
James' eyes widened a bit. "Yeah, let's get inside."

Elizabeth nodded and looked down. "Of course, sir." She agreed anxiously. "I know it is rude, but I must leave." She nodded her head gently to them, and hustled off towards the other end of the building.
Susan turned to her grandfather. "That went well, right?" She asked, although she wasn't actually expecting an answer. It was just something she'd say to start a conversation. She glanced a man in a brightly colored jacket and tilted her head to the side, unsure if this was a Victorian man with a bad sense of style or a time traveller. Grandfather? She stared pointedly at the bright man.
Six, for his part, didn't notice the confused stares being sent his way. He turned to his brother and Kyra and swooped his arm out, offering a toothy grin. "Earth!" Perhaps he wasn't as great at blending in as some of his previous and later incarnates.
ooc| sorry for lack of awesome. P: Susan doesn't know Six because she's only met the first five Doctors (and the tenth now XD) I think she might have met Eight in a book.. eh, anyway. if you need me to change it I will.

(nope that's good. I was hoping that she wouldn't recognize Six Hee hee....so that Ten can have fun with this -- Ten will hope that Six doesn't know who he is for quite some time, and it will be easiest if Susan doesn't know that Six is him, too ) Ten turned to Susan at the question and whispered back. "I really don't know...I hope so. If she alerts the Queen or thinks us suspicious..." He looked in Elizabeth's direction and was pulled out of his thoughts when Susan sent him a telepathic message, and then turned to where Susan was pointing, he just stared at the man in the multi-colored coat -- himself -- a previous regeneration. Ten had only met one other previous self, and that had been the Fifth Doctor, but he was sure that Six wouldn't remember -- as he hoped Five had the sense to erase that memory from his mind. Or he hoped so. The meeting with Five had been slightly awkward, as Five hadn't realized who he was right away. He had really liked his Fifth self. He dreaded to think how Six would respond to him if he knew. Deciding it best to try to keep his identity from Six, and that it would be better if Susan didn't know who Six was, he said nothing to her about the man's identity. However, inwardly he thought, Right...this is just what we need right now....Six here...and....and...regeneration....how would Torchwood know about regeneration....unless....." he glanced at Six again. " Unless they learn about it now because of him....this could really be when they find out that I don't always look the same...Hoping he was wrong, he hoped that Six would be quiet about his identity and not draw attention to himself. Ten sighed, knowing how little chance there was of that, but still, he didn't know. He didn't realize he was still staring at Six. When he did, he looked around, his eyes falling on Tyler and Kyra. Knowing immediately who they were, his eyes filled with tears. A few of them falling on his cheeks. Not bothering to wipe them away, and hoping that Susan wouldn't notice, he forced his attention on something else. His brother and sister in law -- both had been on Gallifrey during the Time War. They were gone now. Desperately wanting to talk to them, but not being able to bring himself to do so, he forced his feet to stay planted where they were. Ten finally sent a telepathic message back to Susan, " It isn't very nice to point," he sent back to her. "They....they must be having a circus here....although I don't know how he got in." He knew very well how Six had gotten in -- either by breaking in or by the same method that he had gotten in. He knew he would eventually have to tell Susan...and he hoped that Susan wouldn't tell Six who he was. Maybe it would be better if he DID tell her. Still, though, he decided he would only tell her if Six revealed himself to her. He sent an urgent message to Susan, " All right...so I know him.....but I'd like it if you wouldn't tell him who I was. If he talks to you, say my name is Steve....Steven....I don't think they use Steve in this time period. Nah....call me David. Several people have said I look like a David in this regeneration...and you can make up my last name, although I've already been referred to as Smith, and Smith is safe." He hoped that she understood the urgency in which he had sent that message. _________ Tyler noticed the stares that had been sent in their direction. Glancing at their attire, he realized that the crowd was just as unfashionable as his current dress. Six was the only fashionable one in the room. Glancing nervously around at the Earthlings, he spotted a woman pointing at his brother. Was pointing a way of recognizing that someone is more fashionable than you? Perhaps on Earth it was. His eyes met a man that was standing next to the woman, but the brown haired man had quickly broken contact. The man had been staring at Six and them. Tyler whispered to Six, 'I guess they're not used to having someone who is highly fashionable around." Ten, with his Time Lord hearing, heard Six's exclamation of them being on Earth, and winced at it. They would either think that Six was mad and force him to leave, or Torchwood would take an interest. He hoped that the former would occur rather than the latter.

ooc| I suppose that Six would theoretically know Ten because Five had to keep his memories from watching Ten during the Time Crash. But for this thread, we'll just say that it's a Ten/Five private mindmeld thing.
Susan remained silent as she watched her grandfather hurriedly wipe away his tears. She glanced back to the man in the brightly colored jacket and then back, wondering if perhaps they were friends. She stared down at her feet as the Doctor told her of the 'circus', and lowered her hand. She knew he was lying, but she also knew she couldn't do anything if he didn't trust her. Susan sighed quietly and surveyed her surroundings once more, trying desperately to blend in or have the Earth spontaneously swallow her up.
Maybe familial reunions weren't as great as they were hyped up to be. Particularly when the family was the only family left. Particularly if you had no more mother, no more father, and no more siblings. Barbados was really sounding nice. Warm weather, nice water, and no Time Lord grandfathers to lie to you.
As she was plotting out ways to suddenly disappear to Barbados, the Doctor's voice entered her mind again. It sounded like the truth - a modified truth veiling a secret, sure, but the truth. David, huh? I can kind of see where people think you look like a David. She was making light of his urgent tone, but nevertheless she understood that her grandfather was serious.
Is he a bad man? She asked.
---
Six followed his brother's stare and waved happily at Susan and Ten. "I suppose not. Look at them. They're dressed so..." He searched for the word to describe the pair's style. "Bad." He shook his head sadly, upset at the state of fashion sense and lack thereof.
"Shall we say hello?" He suggested to the Hunter and Kyra.

Ten glanced at Susan and shook his head. "No....he isn't a bad man. It's just that I would prefer it if he not know who I was, especially here. It won't be long before you will know who he is, I'm sure....but remember what I said..."
Ten noticed that Six was waving at him. He pretended not to see Six, although as he considered it, it might be better if THEY talked to him. He couldn't imagine what would happen if Six happened to talk to the wrong person. Still, though, waving at someone like that was not really proper etiquette for this time and place. It would be better to act like he wasn't associated with Six. Knowing how Six normally acted, he suspected that Six had picked him out of the crowd to talk to.
He considered nodding in Six's direction, but Six had broken the social rules, and to acknowledge Six would be to degrade himself and possibly reveal his own out of placeness.
______ The Hunter nodded at his brother. "Yes, but I'll follow your lead. You have experience associating with humans...so....." He was excited at the prospect of actually meeting a human, although he tried not to show it.

Kyra sighed and decided to stick with Tyler. She thought it was quite humorous that Six's "fashionable" outfit was getting bad attention. However, she kept her mouth shut and her eyes open. But surely there was something she could do.
*** NY 1889
Will and Brenna watched as the two quickly went back into the wardrobe. It didn't look like a very comfortable place to be, and a bit of a childish place to hide.
"Who are those people?" Will asked, mostly to himself, as he moved forward to investigate.
Brenna followed, her curiosity overriding her fear of getting in trouble.
They slowly went to the wardrobe, looking it over, mentally measuring it and trying to figure out how two fully-grown people could fit in it.
INSIDE THE TARDIS Clara was pacing around with her hand in her short hair and James was sitting in the chair, waiting for her to come up with something.
"Maybe they'll just leave," she finally concluded. "I mean, we can't just move, that would leave them with more to tell. And we can't go and try to explain it away, they would probably know better.
"Maybe," James said, being purposefully unhelpful as he got up and headed for the dressing room.
Clara looked over to him and sighed. It would probably help to get into some time-accurate clothes.
OUTSIDE THE TARDIS Brenna examined the woodgrain on the wardrobe, thinking that it looked a bit beat up.
"There has to be some way that they could fit," Will said as he looked over it.
Brenna looked at the back, it was pressed firm against the wall. "Hey, Will. You think that maybe it's not really a wardrobe?"
Will came over to her and looked over at the back of the wardrobe. "Let's make sure," he said as he put his hands on the edge and pulled it away from the wall.
Clara rushed to the front door as she buttoned her dress the rest of the way. She poked her head out the door as she felt the TARDIS moved under her. "Hey! You two, leave the wardrobe alone!"
Will and Brenna jumped back when they saw her pop out in clothes that were more appropriate for society.
James stepped out behind her, again, in more time-appropriate clothing.
"How did you...?" both Will and Brenna asked, puzzled at how they could both get changed in such a small wardrobe and where those clothes came from. Will went over to peek into the inside, but Clara quickly closed the door before he could even get a glance.
"Don't you know about what curiosity did to the cat?" Clara asked with her hands on her hips.

Threading his way through the large group of people in the room, he found a nice quiet corner and stood there, simply enjoying doing nothing but standing and observing. He did accept an offered glass of wine from a butler and gave a polite nod to other passer-bys. It was pleasent to stand and do nothing for a change. There was no crisis to be diverted, no imminent attack on Earth. No, just a simple party somewhere.
The 8th Doctor idily thought about how, for once, his attire fit the occasion. His other lives with their rather wild outfits always stuck out but with his elegant vest, cravat and velveteen jacket there were no stares, just glances, nods and a few slight salutes with raised wine glasses. he returned those with a bright smile, not having any idea who they were. To be fair they most likely had no idea who he was either!
He had given the TARDIS her head, so to speak, and for some reason she materialized in a far corner of a park, next to an old tool shed. "All right, old girl," he had said. "If this is where you want me, I suppose I'll go have a look."
Venturing out he had noticed the steady stream of visitors going in a rather large building, something like an old motel. Curiosity won out once more and he couldn't help but joining it. After all, where there were people, there was almost always an opportunity for interesting chat. He had always been one for that, whether it was discussing man's place in nature with Buddist monks or military strategies with retired Aztec warriors. His attitude of 'act like you own the place' as he had once instructed Ace, a lifetime or two ago (or was it three lifetimes?) worked once more and he was allowed in the grand structure, whatever it was. He didn't even know what the party was for!
As he watched the large group he couldn't help but note one hallway seemed to have more than its share of rather stout men. Bodyguards? Just what sort of gathering did he crash this time?
The 8th had no idea.

NY 1889
"How did you two both, not only fit in that wardrobe, but also change in there?" Brenna asked. Will nodded in agreement.
Clara looked to James, who shrugged. She looked back to the two. The girl looked to be about 17, and the boy, about 19, both wearing clothes that seemed a bit inadequate for this kind of climate. "Where are your parents?"
"Got none," Will said, rebelliously. He could tell that she was the sort that would call the cops on them, or send them to an orphanage, if she could.
"Well, then, where are you living?" Clara asked, both curious and concerned.
"What's it to you? We live, that's all that matters," Will said. Brenna just watched. Everything always went better when he was talking instead of her.
"So you live on the streets? That's alright, as long as you get what you need." Clara smiled, trying to assure them that she wouldn't turn them in. "I was just curious."
Will eyed Clara suspiciously. "You didn't answer Brenna's question."
"Oh, that? It's a part of the magic show," James said, finally thinking of something.
Brenna's eyes widened. "You're a magician?"
"I'm the magician, he's just the assistant," Clara said, smirking to James. "No, really. Yes, he's the magician, I'm his assistant."
"Can I see a trick?" Brenna asked eagerly. She loved to watch street magicians, as few as they were now.
James and Clara looked at each other, not sure what to do. Then James said, "Sorry, can't. It's bad luck to rehearse in front of an audience."
Brenna pouted a bit.
Clara then looked to James, remembering why they were there in the first place. "Come on. Let's go see Lady Liberty."
James and Clara left the room together, leaving Will and Brenna alone with the TARDIS.
Later, as Clara and James were walking down the rain-drenched streets, James asked, "You did lock the TARDIS, didn't you?"
Clara looked at him and thought about it. "Yeah, I'm pretty sure I did." Though, she wasn't exactly sure...
As the Statue of Liberty came into view, Clara shielded James' eyes, wanting his first glimpse of it to be when the light was on it. The rain was beginning to stop and the clouds were beginning to part and, just as the light hit the slightly tarnished marvel, Clara removed her hand to let him see the copper beauty.
The sunlight danced over the toga-ed lady. Her crown seemed to glow in the light. Her torch shimmer magnificently. Even the patina was barely noticeable with the sun lighting her brilliance in such a way.
After seeing this sight, James gently pulled Clara to him and smiled in wonder. "Absolutely beautiful. Thank you."
MEANWHILE, on the TARDIS, Will and Brenna were flabbergasted at the size difference of the outside and inside. Brenna saw a hallway and quickly went to go explore it, not knowing just how cavernous and labyrinth-like this place could be.
OUTSIDE. "Now, you said 'vacation' not 'trip' so I'm guessing you have other activities in mind?" James asked as he looked to Clara.
Clara nodded. "We're going to eat dinner and then we're going to roam the streets, seeing just how much New York changed from 1889 to 1924."
James smirked a bit then kissed her forehead. "You and that wonderful mind of yours."
Clara smiled at his comment, but couldn't shake the feeling that she had forgotten something in the TARDIS.
