The Doctor glanced at his granddaughter and smiled. He wondered if Susan might be able to pull something like this -- spying on people and eavesdropping on their conversations -- better than he could. He never liked to admit that anyone could be better at him at something, but in the current situation, his mind allowed him to consider it -- after all, he was a wanted criminal in this place and time period. Besides, his granddaughter was female. He'd always heard that females were supposedly better at getting this sort of information. He just hoped that he was right about trusting her with this.
It was very hard for him not to be interested in the conversations around him, but he had to be careful. He knew that the Torchwood in this time period couldn't possibly be advanced as it was later, but he also didn't know what all they might have gathered about him. Perhaps they DID know that he had superior hearing....or other things about his species that would give him away.
Still, though, he glanced around a bit, too. He couldn't help himself. Perhaps if they talked to someone it would help. But then he remembered the social rules that he had learned from reading books like Pride and Prejudice, and shook his head. In this place and time period, they probably needed to be introduced to someone before they could talk. Otherwise, it might seem rude...not that he minded being rude. He really did want to talk to someone. Perhaps they would see that he was well dressed and assume that they were already acquainted with him.
He nervously glanced at Susan, hoping to get her opinion. "Do...do you think we could just walk up to someone and ...talk....or...or you could..."

NY 1924
As they approached the door to the antique dogwood wardrobe, James opened the door and offered a hand to help Clara inside. She took it and stepped into her TARDIS, the inside looking like it was all made of blue and purple crystal. This was the Midnight theme, and she quite liked it.
James soon followed and looked around. He had been in here before, but even now, it still amazed him that it was bigger on the inside that it was on the outside.
Clara guided him to the console. "See, I've got it fixed! All working now." She tried to kick away the schematics that littered the floor, she wanted him to think that she did it all herself.
***
NY 1889
Will clambored over the rooftops, looking down to the city streets below. No one really took the time to notice people on the roofs of these buildings, so it was an advantageous perch. It was then that he thought he heard something... a strange noise. No one else seemed to have noticed it, so he shrugged it off at first... but it persisted... He looked in the direction it came from and went to look for the source.
Brenna had followed him. She had gotten quite good at following Will without his knowing, as well as leaving him without is knowing.

She was failing at intelligence gathering. Susan was still having her own internal dilemma over whether or not it was ethically all right to use her telepathy on the humans. She personally would not have enjoyed somebody prying into her thoughts and secrets, but if it was for her grandfather (and, by extension, her own) safety.. didn't that make it okay? She glanced over at him nervously, afraid her internal arguement was obvious. But he was smiling at her, and her anxiety softened.
And then he got nervous.
Susan - despite her telepathy - wasn't famous for her ability to pick up on emotions. Perhaps it was because he was a Time Lord, or maybe it was because he was family -- but Susan immediately picked up his anxieties. He did have a reason to be nervous - she'd be nervous if the queen wanted to skin her alive and poke and prod her hearts. Is that what Torchwood wanted to do to her grandfather? An instinctive protectiveness flaired inside of her.
It seemed he was only nervous about being socially acceptable, however. Thrown off-kilter for a moment, she eyed him while trying to piece together a response. The people here did demand their privacy, and it was obvious that the woman Susan had tried to strike up conversation with was less than pleased at the intrusion. Susan raised a finger to her lips and briefly scanned the thoughts around her. Nobody here seemed to be actively scrutinizing them. Theoretically, she could become fast friends with any of the girls standing awkwardly in corners - but she had gone down the route with her grandfather before. It had ended in fire and not-so-pleasant emotions.
We can bluff our way through introductions. Perhaps they could just set their sights on a social butterfly and listen to the names that they addressed people by. If they're anything like the humans from the future, they won't admit that they don't know us if we act like we know them.

Ten smiled at his granddaughter and nodded. "We could..." he ran his fingers through his hair. After all, he normally just acted like he knew everyone. So why was he nervous this time? He could only attribute it to the fact that he had not thought out his destination very well. He had gone to a party that was set in the Victorian era, only several years after his previous encounter with the Queen. Never having been put in a situation like this before, he was nervous. He knew he was sweating more than usual. Although he had been in a lot of difficult situations before, he hated to think how they might try to torture or kill him. These were the days that punishments were.....extremely unpleasant. He didn't have just himself to worry about either -- his granddaughter was there.
"That's what I always do....it's just that....well...." he sent to Susan.

She put her hand briefly on his shoulder in an attempt to calm the man down. Not that he was overly panicking or anything, but her grandfather had always been a silent worrier. Susan dropped her hand and placed them behind her back. She didn't what to do about his anxiety; she didn't want to remind him of all the life-or-death situations that he had gotten them into and then promptly out of when she had travelled with him. Something told her that it wasn't the best idea.
It's just what? She insisted curiously. He had been a ton of situations that rivaled the one they were in now. What would it be that was making her grandfather so skittish? I have the manipulator if we need to leave quickly.

The Doctor glanced at Susan and shook his head, "I am NOT traveling with a vortex manipulator when I have my TARDIS nearby. It's fine."
He glanced at her and grinned. "Nothing to worry about....now....I guess we should talk to someone."

Susan bit her tongue to refrain from making a snide comment. "Yes. We should." She returned the grin and scanned the room. She walked to a woman and motioned towards her grandfather to follow her. A quick scan of the thoughts around her indicated the woman was called "Lady Elizabeth".
"Good to see you, Lady Elizabeth! May I introduce my..." Why hasn't she thought this out? "...cousin. Lord Smith."
The woman looked between Susan and the Doctor, seemingly bewildered. "It's a pleasure to see you again, and to meet you, Lord Smith." She nodded curtly.
I introduced you! Susan was proud of herself. It wasn't much of an accomplishment to do what she did (especially for a Time Lord) but it didn't stop her from feeling a tiny bit useful, even if she had no idea what idea what she was going to say next. That was why she had handed the conversation with the woman over to her grandfather.
--
Six pouted at his brother, put off by his comment about his own outfit. "Being colorful is cool." He really needed to stop hanging around Peri. The girl's speech was starting to rub off on him.
He handed the outfit to his brother. "I'll go look around while you two get changed." He decided. He grabbed his umbrella and bounced back towards the TARDIS doors. "Exploration! Discovery!" He announced loudly, stepping out of the machine and into the... snow.
The Doctor rather disliked snow. He opened his umbrella and glanced around the street curiously. "England. Again. Why am I always in England?" He murmured, waiting for his brother and Kyra to step out of the TARDIS.

Ten nodded at Lady Elizabeth and gave her a smile. "A pleasure to meet you as well. I have been looking forward to this engagement for a long while now." He nodded in the general direction of all of the other people in the room.
He sent back to Susan, "Thank you, Speaking like them is a bit...awkward, but I seem to always manage it....well enough, at least...." _____ The Hunter took the clothing that his brother had handed him and silently walked in the direction of one of the dressing rooms attached to the wardrobe room. He was curious to see what Kyra would think of the outfit he was about to put on. He had a feeling that it was one of the less fashionable choices, but his brother hadn't made him bear wearing something he didn't want to wear. For that he was grateful.
It didn't take him long to change. Soon he was done. Not sure whether or not he should wait for Kyra -- he debated it for a good three minutes, before he decided to just go ahead and follow after his brother. He didn't want to look like he was desperate to be with Kyra...not wanting to push her away or make her feel smothered.

Clara's TARDIS (was NY 1924)
James looked at her with a knowing look. "Ah," he said as he bent down to pick up the papers strewn on the floor.
Clara frowned then went to held him. "So, New York, about 1886, right?"
James shrugged as he gave the papers to her. "I'm not the 600 year-old Time-Whatever."
"Time Lord," Clara corrected as she took them to put them back where they belonged.

NY 1889
Will crept along the rooftops as he followed the strange noise. It sounded like it was coming from inside one of the buildings, but it didn't sound like a noise that would normally come from inside a building.
Brenna came up beside him and tapped on his shoulder. "Mind if I tag along?"
Will, surprised by her touch, whipped his head to see her. "I told you to stay put."
"Oh, you know me better than that," Brenna teased as she ran ahead.
Will sighed, then took off after her.
*** Present day, London
Kyla followed the Hunter out of the TARDIS, a little ways away. She didn't want to make him feel like she was needy. She heard that that was a big turn-off for a guy. So she stepped out in her Gallifreyan robes, not really wanting to go through the effort of changing into anything "fashionable".

"Yes." Elizabeth agreed, giving him a soft smile. "I'm sure the queen will make a favorable appearance." The woman said quietly.
It appears I'm not as great as being an Undercover Top Secret Alien Species as you are. Susan didn't want to grin in fear of looking like a maniac because nobody else would hear her attempt at humor. She wasn't actually anxious about not being able to help her grandfather. She wasn't actually worried he'd think she was a defective Time Lady and sent her back to the future. -- Six turned dramatically to the two. He twirled his umbrella and raised his eyebrows at them, sweeping his hand around their surroundings. "We're on Earth." He informed them and marched off in search of something to do. He suddenly wheeled around. "Ah! Smartly dressed people, security guards on duty... a party! A party with humans!"His umbrella came dangerously close to thwacking people in the head. He closed it with a flourish. "Or we can go somewhere and never know what would happen if we had stayed. Up to you..." Six shrugged as noncommittally as he could muster.[/blockquote]

(Yeah...call Tyler the Hunter in this thread...otherwise when I bring in the current Tyler in human form....under the chameleon arch, it could be confusing with using the same name. The two Tyler's will look different, but it'll be easier to use the Hunter for Six's Tyler and Tyler for Ten's Tyler...)
Ten nodded at Elizabeth, "Yes....of course. The Queen's appearance....it has been awhile since the last time I had the pleasure of her company. What do you think will happen this evening when she appears?"
He sent to Susan, "Well, you just haven't had the practice that I've had...." __________ The Hunter grinned at his twin. "It looks like you've already made up your mind to go to the party....but....what's a human party like? What if we don't fit in?"
Not knowing that humans dressed differently during different periods of time, he hoped that the fact that he was wearing something that wasn't all that colorful wouldn't put them into an embarrassing situation.
He looked at Kyra and smiled. Whispering to her he said, "I guess we'll soon meet our first humans."

Kyra smiled and followed them out. "So it seems." A party? She hoped she wouldn't look too odd among the crowd, but would it really matter? Certainly with the Doctor running around, they knew about Time Lords.
*** Clara's TARDIS
When Clara returned, she quickly went to getting the TARDIS taken off.
James sat himself in the crystalline chair as he watched her work. He loved how determined she looked whenever she was focusing on what she was doing, as if she knew exactly what she was doing and was willing it to be so.
"Alright, here we go," she said as the engines began to run and the familiar grinding whining sound filled the room and it disappeared from the office.

NY 1889
Will pulled Brenna back a bit as he found the building that the noise seemed to come from. "Come on, this way," he said, moving to a place where they could get inside.
Brenna followed, of course. Will always found something exciting to do, he had a talent for it.
They dropped down into an abandoned flat. Will looked around and followd his ears to where it sounded like the sound was coming from.

The Hunter nodded at Kyra, "Yeah....but I'm guessing that human parties are somewhat different from Gallifreyan ones.....I don't really know what humans are like...but maybe we'll get a better idea by observing them at a party."
He glanced at both Kyra and Six. "Oh...they have guards...how are we going to get inside?"
Of course he wasn't exactly certain that human security was equivalent with Gallifreyan security. Maybe the guards didn't keep people out -- maybe they just made sure that no one got into any trouble while there. Maybe they would even be friendly.

Elizabeth paused to glance between the Doctor and Susan skeptically. "I imagine Her Majesty will be speaking of war affairs." She lowered her eyes. "There's been gossip about the Queen raising her security quite a lot." The woman's voice was light, and she glanced around. "It's not understandable after a war."
"Perhaps she wanted to fend off any other attacks that might be made?" Susan suggested.
The woman nodded. "Yes. It's only gossip."
--
Six had planned to just waltz - literally - into the party and be the socialite he was. However, as his brother mentioned the guards, his mind halted and he stared at the guards. "I know there are guards," He muttered bitterly, because he hadn't known there were guards. He tapped his forehead. "I have a plan. I always have a plan." He never had a plan, but it made him feel better when he pretended like he did.
"For every master's entrance, there's always a servant's way." He said, deciding that if he worded what he really meant differently, the Hunter and Kyra wouldn't catch on. What he meant, of course, was that they were going to sneak in. He walked innocently to the back of the building and to the window. "Going through the windows is... acceptable." To burglars and other such humans. It wasn't a lie. It was merely glossing over the truth.
He stood on the tips of his toes (all the while muttering bitterly about his short regeneration height) and peered inside the window. There were brooms, mops, and other cleaning supplies. "A closet!" He grinned gleefully, prying the window open. He turned to Kyra and kneeled down. "Ladies first?" He said hopefully. He was hoping that they wouldn't demand to be taken back to the TARDIS.

Ten nodded at Elizabeth. "I heard similar rumors -- but different theories on who this person or persons might be. Since there are so many versions, what version did you hear?"
He continued to attempt to speak in a Victorian way. He wasn't sure whether or not it was actually working, but he said it confidently.
_______
Tyler looked at his twin in surprise. "What? They find it acceptable to climb through windows? Humans are unusual....you'll have to tell me more of their culture as we go on."
Tyler was interested in different cultures and different species. If humans found something acceptable that he thought to be strange, he would attempt it in action -- the only exception being dress. He didn't care to dress in another culture's clothing unless he liked the style of their dress.
He was interested in how humans might negotiate window climbing. Smiling at Kyra, he was silently glad that he wouldn't be the first.
Having little doubt that the Doctor would tell them all about human culture, he wondered what else he might have to look forward to besides window climbing.
