A smirk crossed Susan's features as her grandfather feigned innocence. This man could walk into the local McDonalds and uncover some life-threatening dangerous plot to kill the human race, or, more his style, the whole of the United Kingdom. And he'd still have enough time left over to grab some chips and tea. She wondered if there was ever a dull moment in this man's life - ever a time where her grandfather just stopped what he was doing and just... existed. It really had never been his style, but that was about nine regenerations ago. Who was she to judge who her grandfather was or was not?
"All right, Mr. Smith. Friends it is. Although we could pass as family." She observed his tall, skinny frame with his brown hair and dark eyes. She glanced down at herself. She looked like she had been handed the ugly stick of the gene pool. Susan shook her head lightly as though to take that last comment back. Friends was a lot less stressful than having to be her grandfather's sister. Besides - they had been friends when she travelled with him. But she wasn't going to admit her inner concerns; he probably wasn't worried about it. Why should she be? But she was still unsettled about how she had no clue where their relationship stood. She wanted desperately to forgive him and be his little granddaughter - the person that he was more protective of than any - but instead she felt like an old friend that had been forgotten in the passage of time. But again; she was reading far too much into the little things her grandfather said.
His comment about her dress made her laugh lightly. "I'm afraid if I went too much shorter our friendship cover story would have quickly turned quite scandalous." She teased, although in hindsight she supposed that it wasn't very... normal to tease one's grandfather that way. "A lady wasn't supposed to reveal above her ankles." She explained; but the Doctor probably knew that. What didn't he know? Sometimes having a seemingly omnicious grandfather was very unnerving.
She linked her arm around his and smiled up at him. "Allons-y." She replied.

The Doctor took his granddaughter's arm and led her in the direction of the party. "Now, the only thing we need to worry about is...is seeing Queen Victoria," he whispered to her as they walked. "Well, that and the organization she started -- Torchwood. She met me in this regeneration, so she would recognize me on sight."
"The entire reason that Torchwood was started was to get rid of...me..." he said to her. "She also banished me from England....."
He looked at her. He led her down the street and towards a huge house that several people were flocking towards. "And I have this," he said, getting out his psychic paper."

Queen Victoria, huh? She raised her eyebrows at him questioningly. What had he done to irk Her Highness of like that? "I'm betting you can't wait to find out what you did, hm?" Susan asked quietly, keeping her 'I knew it' comment to herself. Wherever this man something not right was going to happen. However, she ignored her defenses which were screaming at her to unlink arms and flee. She reasoned that if she were going to stay with the Doctor, she needed to learn how to stand her ground.
"To get rid of you...?" Susan's rather naive mind instantly leapt to thought of, 'well, she banished you so what else would she get rid of you for', before realization dawned upon her thought process. "That's a very not nice thing to do." Although when did the Doctor ever deal in nice things? Very rarely, that's when.
She looked at his psychic paper and blinked. It was.. blank. Susan glanced up at him questioningly. And then another realization set upon her and she sighed. She was being rather dense tonight. Of course she couldn't be fooled by it. She was naturally a telepath and saw past most psychic tricks of the mind. "A low level psychic paper." She wasn't sure why she said it since obviously the Doctor knew what it was. Susan figured it was her old smart-alec/show-off/know-it-all self from her previous regeneration leaking through. She took her mind off it and looked curiously at the party.
"How is it you always know about parties?"

The Doctor nodded at Susan, "Oh, I know what I did...I saved her life, but then, I think she got bit anyway....you see, there was this werewolf, and several people who plotted to take her life. I got in the way..my companion and I...and we killed it." He glanced at her seriously, "Apparently Queen Victoria thought I was too dangerous...so she knighted me and then banished me."
He glanced at Susan, "I didn't have this when you were with me before?" he nodded towards the psychic paper in his hand.
He then grinned at Susan's final question. "Now that," he said, "is my secret."

There was a werewolf. Susan's eyes widened in disbelieving curiosity. My companion and I.. And her eyes narrowed in jealous contempt. She looked down at the ground and nodded as he finished his short layman's tale. "Talk about ungrateful." Susan joked, pushing down the bitterness she was feeling. "So, are you telling me that Mum is a hairy creature of the night?" The Time Lady chuckled as she thought of the queen turning into a werewolf and howling at the moon.
She took another look at the psychic paper. Had he had it when she was travelling with him? She quickly ran through her memory. "No," she stated eventually. "You must have picked it up after you... dropped me off." She smiled at him, trying to let him know that she hadn't quite meant for her voice to crack when she said that. "That or you never bothered to show me, Sir Smith." She teased.
That is my secret. She puffed her cheeks out in a slight pout. Her expression changed back into her normal contemplative face as they drew nearer to the party. "Next time," If there was a next time. What if the Doctor decided that she wasn't a worthy companion? "We should go to the Bahamas." She nudged his side and grinned. "I'm sure you can find something there amiss." She thought about letting him on her McDonalds reverie, but decided against it. Her lame sense of humor had a tendency to go unappreciated.

The Doctor turned to Susan with a look on his face. "Oh, now, I don't go LOOKING for trouble...it happens to just find me."
"I don't exactly know whether or not the Queen was bitten, but I THINK she was. Regardless, no one but the royal family would know. "
"Oh, well....psychic paper....very good at getting us into places. It comes in handy," he said to her as they approached a man standing guard at the entrance to the party. The fact that there was a guard there made the Doctor slightly nervous, although he tried not to show it. He sent Susan a telepathic message, "That is to say....get ready to run if we have to. It seems that...important people are here."

"Oh, do calm down. I was only joking." Susan teased him. The Doctor may not go looking for trouble, but trouble went looking for the Doctor. Sometimes quite literally. "It's all right. Where would the universe be if trouble didn't find you so often?"
She smiled as he proclaimed the paper's usefulness. "Very useful." She echoed, watching the guard with cynicism. She glanced at the Doctor with a raised eyebrow. Okay, Doctor. Hey! Maybe she could get the hang of this whole telepathic thing. And then the reality of the situation settled on her shoulders. She could potentially have to hightail it in Victorian era clothing. Why hadn't she thought of the fact her grandfather was a danger magnet before?
For all of her supposed genius, Susan thought that sometimes she could be very stupid.

The Doctor nodded at his granddaughter as he approached the guard, pulling out his psychic paper.
He smiled at the guard, "Hello there.....might you be able to tell me who has arrived so far?"
Wanting to be respectful of the era that he was in, he spoke with a different air than he normally would have. After all, he had to be convincing. He would only show the psychic paper to the person if his identity or intentions were questioned. He also figured that if he could learn just how secure the place was, he'd determine whether or not it was actually a safe event for him. He too had noticed what Susan was wearing. Those shoes were not the best for running, and if they had to run now, it would be easier to get away when they were on the outside of the ball rather than the inside.

Inside a young woman was sneaking around trying to avoid the gaurds and what-not. She had tried to get in, but her ID wasn't the proper one she had to sneak into the back entrance. The woman wanted to see what kind of party this was so she could get some ideas for a book. Up ahead she saw a guard and quickly back tracked. 'No use going that way, she thought bitterly. It was almost like the guards were at every spot here. Thr woman began to wonder if she was ever going to get in. On her back was a backpack and inside was a party dress as well as a fancy purse that was just big enough to hold a notepad and a pen. She entered a bathroom and quickly changed. She dropped her backpack off behind a trashcan and took a deep breath. Her cover story was that she had gone to the bathroom.

The Doctor continued to wait for an answer from this man, all the while taking in his surroundings. He grinned at both the guard and Susan, hoping that his plan for getting inside would work. What was taking this guard so long to reply? Could this guard possibly be connected with Torchwood.

ooc| kind of took some liberties. =P Tell me if I need to edit it. =] -- The guard barely glanced in the Doctor's direction. "Government officials, sir. Do you have your identification card? Only nobles and elected persons are permitted." The guard looked at the pair of Time Lords with close scrutiny. They looked noble enough, but they didn't act noble.
Susan didn't like to admit it but she had been scratching at the surface of the man's mind. She was trying to refrain from relying so heavily on her telepathy (especially since sometimes it went a tad faulty) but she figured that this warranted a bit of lenience about the skill. She stood a little straighter with a long-suffering sigh. Contrary to popular belief, it was very hard to correct posture wearing such a restricting dress.
Think I'd stick out too much if I changed back into a sundress? Was she really taking fashion advice from a nearly millenium old man? I have my bag. It was strapped to her leg, but she decided that her grandfather didn't need to know that much.[/blockquote]

The Doctor opened the psychic paper wallet up, showing it to the man. "The identification, sir," the Doctor said out loud.
He glanced at Susan and sent, "A sundress in this time period would be...well...indescent. Not only that, but if Torchwood is here, they would know it was me. The last companion that I had wore 21st century clothes, and they considered her to be...naked."

The guard looked at the card and blinked. The paper had, at first, appeared blank, but then words had swam together until it was comprehensible. "Of course, Lord Smith. Lady Doe." He opened the door and ushered them in the building.
Susan glanced at the shut door behind them and then to her grandfather. "Lady Doe?" It was her Jane Doe comment coming back to bite her the in satin tush. She nodded as she considered that it would be blatantly obvious she didn't belong. Susan blamed the lack of time travelling that had rusted her 'blending-in' skills. I'd like to meet some of your companions. Was that too pushy to ask of him? Ah, if it's okay. They probably don't want to meet your grandkid anyway.

The Doctor replied to Susan, "Well, I'm traveling by myself....as you can see.....but that's not to say that you can't meet my former companions......well, you can meet all of them except for Rose. But I'm not going to promise anything right now."
He grinned at the fact that the psychic paper had identified Susan as being Jane Doe. "Well, Miss Doe, shall we see whose all around...."
He glanced around, taking in the upper class Victorian dress of the others with him. "And...might want to find out if the Queen is here..."

Brenna and Will (and Loki) - New York City - Earth - 1889
Brenna eyed some books in a book store as she walked down the muddy streets. They were getting hit by a fairly large rainstorm and she and Will were drenched from head to foot. Will glanced back at her, wondering what it was that was holding her up. He stopped, then went back to her.
"Come on, Brenna. We can't get another one now, they're still on alert from the last time we got one," he said, taking her hand in his.
Brenna pouted and followed him away from the shop window.

Clara and James - New York City - Earth - 1924
Clara walked into the office with one thing in mind.
"James, what do you say to a vacation?" she asked him as he sat lazily in the chair, his legs propped up on the table.
James looked up at her, over the newspaper he was reading. He grinned a bit and closed it, putting it down on the office desk. "Where, and when, did you have in mind?" he asked playfully.
Clara smirked a bit as she came around the desk to sit by his feet. "Nowhere too far. I was thinking that maybe we could see the Statue of Liberty."
"But we see it everyday," James said, swiveling a bit in his chair, making his feet 'involuntarily' touch her side.
"Not right after it was built, before it got all green and rusty," Clara said, taking hold of his legs so he would stop.

Cait - Planet not far from Ood homeworld - time unknown
Cait was walked through the forests, looking for one thing: the shimmering Moonlight Lillies. He had heard the Elders talk about how if a Sprigganian could find one and give it to his loved one, he would have a wonderful life filled with adventure and wonders. He, being one of a family that has no Elder, wanted to be the first to find it.
His cousin, Cayden, was a day ahead of him, but he wasn't as experienced with exploring as Cait was.
