Melissa is currently in a book store in New York City -- Earth -- 2010.
Melissa looked around at the many books that were for sale in the book store that she was currently in. She hadn't been in New York City for long -- in fact, going to graduate school here was the first time that she had ever been to the city. She found it all to be quite overwhelming. Melissa happened to be from a fairly small town in Ohio, and so the move was a big change for her. Not only that, but she didn't particularly like the school that she was attending. It was the content of what was being taught...and more importantly, what WASN'T being taught that bothered her.
She liked the book store, though...there were so many titles that she could choose from.
_______
The Doctor is currently inside his Tardis, which has just landed in London during the Victorian area. -- Earth
The Doctor opened the door to the Tardis. He peered out, noting that he had indeed landed where and when he had wanted to go. There would be a special ball taking place in several hours, and he had thought it would be interesting. After all, he needed a distraction, and this was just the sort of thing he had been itching to participate in.
He had even made sure to sort of dress for the occasion. He knew that wearing his normal suit just would not do -- he would have to try to blend in with the people in the era he was in. He had no companion to impress or tease him.
The Time Lord stepped out of his Tardis, carefully locking it. He looked both ways, saw no one coming, and started off down the street.

As Nieve White walked down the street she bumped into a tall, brown haired (and handsome) man. He was very courteous and helped her off the ground and as she brushed the snow on her dress and looked up to see him mumbling an apology while wandering off. She stared after him for a second because when he had brushed her skin she had heard a whisper, time lord . She knew this was significant but quickly forgot it when she saw her best friend down the road. Little did she know her life would turn for the worst before the end of the day and she wouldn't see that man for another couple hundred years, the day he saved her... Hope I didn't completely mess up your plan. I don't really have to be introduced to the Doctor officially for a while. Will be deleted once the quoted post is edited. I know that you're new, so it'll take some time to get used to. What you have posted above is not acceptable for the roleplay. You can't control someone else's character, giving them speech and typing what they do. I control the Tenth Doctor. We can have them meet, but you'll have to let me do the talking and playing of Ten. If you could please edit your post so that you don't control the Doctor, that would be good. I will then reply to it.

Vortex manipulators were not to be trusted. Susan picked herself off the ground sulkily. Judging from the way the air tasted and the bizarre way the people walking around her were dressed she estimated that she was in Victorian England. The posh accents clued her in that she was in London. Which meant that she hadn't teleported at all, she had just thrown herself back several centuries. She was supposed to be in the Bahamas getting a tan, meeting cute Jamaican pool boys, and having fun. Instead she was cold, grumpy, and her back hurt from landing on it. And there were no Jamaican pool boys to be seen.
She lifted a hand to her temple and walked out of the alley. She saw a wide variety of people -- beggars on the streets in rags to the posh uppity class dressed to the nines. Susan glanced down at her outfit - a floral sundress, high heels, and a wide hat to block the sun out of her eyes. And it was cold. And high heels were not the most rational shoe wear for snow and ice. The Time Lady slid about the cobbled street while keeping a hand pressed to a building so that she didn't slide out of control. "Isn't this just lovely?" She muttered sarcastically, although in hindsight she didn't know who she was muttering to. It was just a way for her to let out her bitterness.
Susan had more clothes than just her sundress, but they were equally unfitting. She had a small bag that, like the TARDIS, had a different - albeit smaller - dimension inside of it that contained whatever Susan may need. Except a coat and suitable Victorian clothes. She even had floss. But she hadn't thought of bringing a coat? "I'm supposed to be in Jamaica!" She hissed unhappily. The Time Lady admitted it could have gotten worse -- what if the vortex manipulator had landed her in the middle of the ocean? She couldn't swim and she would most likely be eaten by the sea monster that had a vendetta against her grandfather.
With that in mind she stopped walking and held her foot miserably. She would have given the manipulator another try, but she had learned that it took about an hour to cool off, and if she overheated the damnable device she'd most likely burst into a billion particles. Susan wasn't fond of bursting. Not that it had ever happened to her before, but she imagined that it was unpleasant. Susan glared at the people passing her by as though it was their fault the device she had stolen was faulty which resulted in her being miserable. Although, she reasoned, if she was looking for someone to blame it may as well be her grandfather. ooc; if you need me to change something I will. :] and is it okay for it to be snowing? Whenever I imagine that particular time period I always think of cold weather..

(It's fine to have it be in the winter.)
The Doctor nervously glanced around himself until his eyes fell on a young woman who was most obviously not from the Victorian time period. He frowned at that, as he knew that she had traveled through time.
"Now who could THAT be?" he thought to himself. It wasn't as though this female could be a Time Lord. They were all dead....gone....died in the the Time War. "She must be a Time Agent....but then, why would she be here?"
Making the decision to go over and talk to her, the Doctor got up and moved towards the young woman.

Susan tilted her head as she heard footsteps coming her way. The way they fell indicated a man. She turned around, clutching at the building to prevent from sliding down the ice. She took off her hat, eyeing him warily. She was trying to keep from reading everybody's thoughts because she had become too dependent on that. "Hello, sir." She smiled politely, looking down at her clothes. There wasn't much of an explaination for it, so she decided not to mention it to the stranger. Something about him seemed... odd.
She tried to glance acros his surface thoughts, and found that they were blocked. Her eyebrows raised; there weren't humans who could that. Susan's polite smile melted and she crossed her arms, wishing she had brought a coat. She walked a bit closer. "You aren't human," she stated. She wondered if perhaps she was coming on too strong; that if this was really a normal man he'd think her mad. She looked at his wrist for a vortex manipulator. Not finding one, she raised her eyes back to his.
"Who are you?" She inquired, her head tilting curiously once more. Fancy meeting another time-traveler here. An alien time traveler. He didn't seem very threatening - more like an aristocrat attending some sort of party. Her cynical expression dropped into an amused one as she put her hat back on. "You'll forgive me if I don't curtsy," It was light sarcasm. "My attire isn't suitable for such weather."

The Doctor studied the woman carefully. It was at that moment that his eyes caught sight of the vortex manipulator. He grinned, as that pretty much confirmed his initial thought.
"A vortex manipulator! You're a Time Agent....I have to say that you're not really the first Time Agent that I've come across. Judging from your dress, though, I would say that something went wrong," the Doctor said to her.
He paused for a second. Of course Time Agents had seen aliens before, so it was no surprise to him that she would identify him as an alien.
He added, "No, no....I'm not human."
The Doctor raised his eyebrows at the woman's comment. "And I didn't ask you to curtsy," he said gently.
(If Queen Victoria sees him, she vowed to kill him....which he didn't think about when he traveled there...hee hee)

"A Time Agent?" She raised her eyebrows, the accusation taking several moments to run through her mind. Susan shrugged as he spoke of something going wrong and grinned. "Yeah. I'm supposed to be in Jamaica working on my tan." She laughed. "All I did was travel back in time a few centuries. It's my first go with a manipulator, so I'm just lucky I didn't burst into a billion particles." Susan hadn't actually heard of anyone doing that recently, but there was always a first time for everything. Especially with her luck. That would just be one less Time Lady to deal with.
"I'm not a Time Agent," she corrected with a smile. Susan tugged at the hem of her dress and looked around curiously. Her grandfather had taken her to the victorian England before, but that had ended with them being thrown in a dungeon. Not such a great memory. "I'm just stranded. Trying to get back home." She knew that she had a snowball's chance in hell of returning to Gallifrey considering the limited distance the vortex manipulator teleported. "England's just as nice, though," She lied. Susan believed that if she spent any more time in England she was going to crazy, especially if it was London. Her son had died in London, her husband had died in London, and she had been deserted by her grandfather London. Besides - how could Earth ever compare with the beauty of Gallifrey?
As he admitted to not being human she nodded. "I'm not either." She glanced back at the man inquistively. "You didn't tell me your name." To be fair, she hadn't told him her name either, but she thought it rude when she had clearly asked who he was. Normally Susan would just scrape around in someone's mind until their name appeared, but this man was blocked; it was frustrating, especially when information was being withheld. When he told her that he didn't ask for her to curtsy, she nodded again and rubbed her arms. "I know you didn't."
ooc; haha. x3 Queen Victoria is always fun ♥

The Doctor studied Susan for a moment, trying to decide whether or not he should tell her his name. Remembering what year he was in, as well as his location, he said, "That's right...you did ask me for my name, didn't you..."
At that point, he ran the fingers on one of his hands through his hair. "Well, I'm John Smith." He offered Susan his hand, offering her a grin.
He thought better than to use his real name. There was a Queen and her governmental agency that were to kill him on sight if they were to find him. There was another possibility as well. This young woman could very well be a trap for him -- a lure. It was known by the Queen that he traveled through time. Although the girl DID have vortex manipulator....but still, it could be a trap. It wouldn't necessarily even have to be the Queen or Torchwood who were trying to trap him. It may very well be another alien.
"Oh, really?" the Doctor said in response to Susan's comment about being an alien. "What species are you? And where is home....I may be able to help you out."

"I did." Great, she had run into a 'special' time traveler. Or perhaps he was dodging this question for a reason. Maybe he was a fugitive. She glanced around, expecting to see some tall men in tophats trudging towards them with arms. Seeing no such men, she glanced back to the man, vaguely disappointed at the lack of action. Once he told her his name, she grinned. That was a perfect name for going into hiding; there must have been about ten John Smith's walking down the street as they spoke.
She shook his hand. "Pleasure to meet you, Mr. Smith." Susan winked. "May as well call me Jane Doe." The Time Lady glanced about them again, trying to figure out this man. There wasn't a chance his name was actually John Smith unless his parents were Earthphiles - she had met plenty of those. She placed her hands on her hips as he continued to ask her questions. He had withheld information from her -- so would it be right to so quickly answer his questions? She thought about giving some off-handed comment about being from Saturn, but she eventually settled for the more honest approach, especially if the man could return her to Gallifrey.
"Home is a long ways away from Earth." She lifted her finger in Gallifrey's general direction. "I am a Time Lady." There was a tone of pride in her voice; she hadn't been there to witness deterioration of the Time Lords. She hadn't witnessed their fall from a great race to simple warriors. And she definitely had no idea what happened to Gallifrey. How could she when she had been stranded in the future? "My home is Gallifrey."

The Doctor's grin disappeared from his face the moment that 'Jane Doe' had said that she was a Time Lady from Gallifrey. He couldn't look at her for several moments, as her admission had brought back a thousand emotions, all at once, flooding him. He thought of his people, his family, his home, his friends, the war....everything.
He shook his head. "No, no, no...that's impossible. They're dead...they're all dead. You CANNOT be one." He glared at her. "What is it that you want from me?"
Several tears rolled down his cheeks. As hard as he could, he tried to ignore them. It seemed that this woman, if she was really an alien, was trying to use information about his people against him.

Susan raised her eyebrows as he ranted on their deaths. She took a step back, reaching once again for the building so that she didn't slide to an untimely demise. "I don't want anything from you!" She snapped indignantly. One thing she hated was for people to accuse of her of being a liar. "And what do you mean they're all dead? They are most certainly not dead!" Her anger subsided as he started crying. She tilted her head, too confused to think properly. She stepped closer to him and held out her wrist.
"Feel for yourself. Two pulses. Although my second might be a little weak. This is my first regeneration..." She admitted, and looked down. "I can answer some questions, too, if you still don't believe me. But not a lot. I didn't spend much time on Gallifrey before I left." Before my grandfather abandoned me. The man had severely thrown Susan off as he had first been angry and then he had started crying. She hadn't even reduced somebody to tears that quickly. Usually it took many weeks of slow psychological torture.
She had no idea whether to believe this man when he told her that her family, her friends, her whole planetwas gone. He would have no reason to lie to her about this, and he seemed convincing enough; but she had run into her fair share of people who seemed like she could trust them, only for them to betray her. Or, more specifically, lock her out of the TARDIS in 22nd century London with no way of getting in touch with them or even returning to her own time period. Stuck to live a linear life. It had been fifty years of pure agony.
"And anyway, Smith, how would you know so much about the Time Lords?"

The Doctor ignored her wrist or the moment, choosing instead to reply to her. "I....I....know about Time Lords because I am one....the only one...the last one...the only survivor of the Time War. I'm the only one who could end it...I watched Gallifrey burn."
He really didn't care what she did to him now, as he figured that she had already known that he was a Time Lord, and that she was trying to capture him...or whatever it is that she wanted to do.
"There were no survivors except for the Master and me...but the Master is dead," he added.
He then looked right at her. "That's how I know that you're lying....and if there's one thing that I don't like, it's someone pretending.....to be Gallifreyan when they're not."

Time War? She dropped her arm beside her, mulling over the information. There had only been two survivors known about, and the third had been trapped in the future with no way to be accessible. "I don't believe you." She muttered, crossing her arms. She wasn't supposed to be thinking about what would happen if everything she knew was gone. She was supposed to be scoping out good-looking men at the Bahamas. But what if the man was telling her the truth? What if everything was gone? Her home, her family, her parents... her grandfather?
"The Master survived?" She chuckled. "Figures. That man has an obnoxious way of surviving anything. Like a cockroach." Susan wasn't sure how much this Time Lord knew of the Master; not even she knew him that well. She just knew that her grandfather and him had been friends before the Master had started going psycho. "Well, since you know so much, Smith," her arms dropped to her side and she looked anxiously at him, "what do you know of... the Doctor?"
The name tasted bitter coming out her mouth, but she couldn't stop the concern that had suddenly pooled up in her. "Is he gone?" She stepped closer to the man cautiously. She knew he didn't belive her origins, but she didn't care at that particular moment. Of course he was gone - this man definitely was not her grandfather, which meant that her grandfather had either died or just hadn't been accounted for much like her. As he accused her of lying again she sighed.
"Believe what you want." She said, defeated. "I just don't see how you can offend my honor without even checking my hearts." Her humor was dry, and she glanced at her vortex manipulator. It still needed to cool down before she could try to leave. And, with her blood temperature being quite lower than a humans, this weather going to freeze her to death if she get a coat. She looked around again, this time her eyes searching for someone to con out of a jacket.

Seeing the woman's reaction to his comments, the Doctor looked at her again and studied her. Although he was still crying , he thought to himself, " She knows too much to be lying....she knows about the Master....and she knows about me." He reached forward to grasp a hold of her wrist, checking for the two pulses. Once he felt them, he looked up at her and said, "I'm so sorry....I didn't know....I thought you were lying....how did you survive the Time War?" He studied her carefully, looking at her with great interest. "The Master only survived because he put himself in a chameleon arch...made himself human. But you....how?" He knew it was possible that she had put herself into a chameleon arch as well, and perhaps, she had just opened her watch. Like the Master, she wouldn't have known the outcome of the war...were that the case. Looking right at her, the Doctor replied, "I am the Doctor....why do you want to know about me? I wasn't exactly well liked on Gallifrey, you know." The Doctor tried to place this woman, but he couldn't for the life of him, figure it out. (OOC: Actually, even though Time Lords have much lower body temperatures, they are MORE tolerable to cold than humans are.)

"I was stuck here." She waved her arm around her. "Except in the future. Twenty second century." Susan sighed and ran a hand through her hair after taking off her hat. "It's so boring living life without being able to hop around time." She shrugged off his apology, knowing that it was as much as a shock to him than it was to her. Actually she had a feeling that she'd probably crumple up into a corner later and be miserable as soon as the realization that everything she had once known was gone fully struck her.
I am the Doctor.
Susan lowered her face immediately, not wanting him to see the range of emotions she couldn't hide. "I... just heard a lot about you. The infamous Doctor, always saving the universe." The sentence sounded bitter, and she laughed softly to try to soften the edge. "It'd be a pity if you died in something like war, wouldn't it?" She was at a loss of what to say. She hadn't expected her grandfather to look her age. He had always used to like older ages; and now she only looked about five years younger.
She had always imagined what she would do if she met her grandfather. They ranged from punching him in the mouth for locking her out of the TARDIS to hugging him because he had been her hero. She hadn't imagined coming across him in the middle of London. She thought that she wouldn't see him again. The universe was vast, what would he be doing on such a place as this? "I should go." Susan took a step back from him.
ooc; curses! >: oh well. she's cold metaphorically which makes her literally cold. >_> yeaaah. that's it...
