Earth. San Francisco. 2011 CE.
The weather outside was gorgeous, the sort of day tourists imagined was typical for mid-spring in San Francisco. A gentle breeze blew off the bay, bringing a breath of cool air to the pleasant warmth. A few fluffy clouds drifted lazily overhead.
All in all, the view from the shop window made it look like a good day not to be at work.
"Dana?"
That was Hugo Morton, the balding, portly owner of The Wellness Shop - a holistic medicine and organic food store.
"Dana, I've got Patricia DeMêler's order ready. If you'll run it over to her apartment, you can take the rest of the afternoon off."

Dana looked out the window, letting her thoughts wander, and occasionally tapping her fingernails against the counter. Honestly, who could be interested in health food on a day like this? There was an energy in the air that made her want to do... something. Something spectacularly productive. What exactly she wasn't sure. Perhaps she simply needed a walk. She smiled slightly; Major would certainty be ready to join her. The growing pup had been restless lately. "Hmm?" She looked up, taking a moment to process what her boss said. "Oh, yes, of course Mr. Morton. Thank you." Eager to get on her way, she grabbed the package and forced herself to walk calmly out the door.

(I have been sent here by Sarah Jane, if this is the wrong place I'll just remove the post ;P)
Denatus had just stepped through one of his portals somewhere in the desert. And when he took his step out of the familiar warmth it seemed the weather had changed drastically. He needed to find someone, but how was he supposed to find her?
His glass skin reflected the sun light, the thin and silvery cracks in his skin even more visible as he stood in the light.
The alien had no idea he had appeared right on the other side of the street. That the woman he was looking for was right within reach.
And In order to stay hidden from the usual human mind, the Lux carried a perception filter, just to make sure he wouldn't scare anyone. Earth still wasn't ready for his kind.
Now, he just needed to find this woman Sarah Jane told him about.

Patricia DeMêler - Pat, to her friends - was enjoying the cool bay breeze from her balcony. She was a handsome woman, small and slim, with iron grey hair and blue eyes partially hidden behind bifocals. She wore khakis and a sky-blue blouse, and a pendant set with a stone that might have been turquoise.
She'd seen many things in her sixty-some years of life, much of it in the five years she'd lived through since the Year of Ghosts. Since her husband...
She blinked the thoughts - and the tears - away. Surely she'd shed enough of them for Chuck by now.
The turquoise-looking pendant pulsed as she looked towards street level. For an instant, one of the passers-by rippled and wavered, seeming to become something made of golden light. Then the pendant pulsed again, and the figure rippled again.
Her hand went to the stone involuntarily. Meddler, she thought, what did you give me?
She stared at the creature of golden light for a moment, wavering. Then, slipping a collapsible baton into her pocket, she left the apartment.
